RX 7900 XTX vs RX 9070 XT March 2026 - Comparison with Newest Drivers

In the year since the 9070XT launched, it has caught up to the 7900 XTX.

4K Max Settings:
  • Horizon: Forbidden West
    • 7900 XTX - 76FPS
    • 9070 XT - 78FPS
  • Forza Horizon 5
    • 7900 XTX - 134FPS
    • 9070 XT - 130FPS
  • Resident Evil Requiem
    • 7900 XTX - 83FPS
    • 9070 XT - 90FPS
  • STALKER 2
    • 7900 XTX - 45FPS
    • 9070 XT - 44FPS
  • Cyberpunk 2077
    • 7900 XTX - 49FPS
    • 9070 XT - 48FPS
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
    • 7900 XTX - 53FPS
    • 9070 XT - 52FPS
  • The Last of Us: Part II
    • 7900 XTX - 64FPS
    • 9070 XT - 64FPS
  • Battlefield 6
    • 7900 XTX - 68FPS
    • 9070 XT - 65FPS
  • Silent Hill f
    • 7900 XTX - 53FPS
    • 9070 XT - 53FPS
  • Mafia: The Old Country
    • 7900 XTX - 34 FPS
    • 9070 XT - 33FPS

And that's just in raster. with RT, 9070 XT pushes beyond what the 7900 XTX is capable of.
  • Resident Evil: Requiem
    • 7900 XTX - 55 FPS
    • 9070 XT - 62 FPS
  • Cyberpunk 2077
    • 7900 XTX - 40FPS
    • 9070 XT - 48FPS

Plus the 9070 XT has FSR 4 support whereas 7900 XTX is stuck with FSR 3.

No brainer at this point, no reason to get a 7900 XTX any more.

Very impressive considering 7900xtx is 61 tflops (or 30.5 non-inflated tflops) and the 9700 xt is 48 tflops (or 24 non-inflated tflops). Talk about punching above its weight out performing a card 20% faster.

So:
a. they optimized both cards with drivers
b. they only optimized 9070XT
c. they opimized 9070XT and lowered performance of 7900XTX

This reminds me that every new gen nvidia is accused of lowering performance of old cards.

Same channel did similar 7900 XTX benchmarks a year ago, and performance numbers were about the same (or even went up since last year):

So no 7900 XTX downgrade shenanigans happening here.

Just the FSR 3/4 difference is night and day. (I know, Optiscaler yada yada...)

The only real 7900 advantage is the vram Although, the only games that maxed out the VRAM on my 9070xt were heavily modded Cyberpunk (the game is kind of messed up, partly due to CDPR also), and Tarkov. (Edit. At 4k)

I bought my 7900 XTX about 8 months before the 9070 XTs dropped. I'm not a fan of upscalers or frame generation but I do appreciate RT/PT when done correctly and with intent. I fear we are going down a road of zero optimization and lazy development cycles for the foreseeable future with the advent and push of these technologies. Hopefully I'm wrong though.
