Ryse: Son of Rome - Pax Prime 2013 Gladiator Mode Gameplay

Animation bugs aside, what looks particularly worse? Mostly great textures, reflections are still there although in lesser form due to different armor, etc. I mean it's arenas as compared to the polished single player stuff after all. God of War Ascension's multiplayer looked great but couldn't possibly compare to the single player's set pieces.

Maybe its the camera angle or something, but it doesn't seem as grand as the E3 demo made things seem. The cut scenes before the matches start have large high resolution textures, but the gameplay looks low res to me. Kind like how on PSone Grand Turismo the replays were much higher res than the actual gameplay.

It has very little to do with the game, because there's better looking footage of the game. It has everything to do with the console it's on.

No, Titanfall gets extra shit for being an Xbox One game. Ryse just looks terrible.

Go read a Knack thread or any pre-Gamescom DriveClub thread to see how it can go both ways.

Would love for THAT footage to be posted. It shows the game in a far superior light imo.

I got these:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JE6gbF8JxBY (Not English)

But still, the gameplay is not good.

Nope, Ryse gameplay is just not good (at least for now). And I don't think this will change anytime soon.

Two youtube vids arent going to change my opinion. I bought the game at launch and I played it at launch. The ai was broken. Try visting the crysis 2 ot and read some impressions

Those are my Youtube videos from launch period and they show AI... I have more of them on blip, because You know there was nothing wrong with AI. Just like there is nothing wrong with C3 AI and yet people said it was shitty.

He is neogafs official crytek fanboy. Probably has some vested interest in the studio

Haha, i'm done. I've been called EA guy, GGG guy, Star Citizen guy and now i'm from Crytek. I'm going places it seems.

And he claims he only supports Crytek for the tech. I call BS. He defends Crytek at every given opportunity. Be it visuals, gameplay, AI et all.

Crytek doesn't even need a forum PR rep with KKRT00 around. I don't think I've ever even seen him post a single negative things about Crytek or any of their games.

Yeah, its ok to spread lies about their games, but not ok to call out people bullshit, right?
And i think You should read my posts more carefully if You think i've never said anything bad about Crytek or their games.

That's basically how I feel. Titanfall, while I don't get why it's almost every press outlet's favorite game, looks really fun to play and I'll definitely pick it up.

Ryse just has no appeal to me whatsoever from any perspective. From everything I've seen I don't think I can expect great gameplay, story, or characters. It looks like they put all their effort into visuals, and even then I hope they can tighten up their animations significantly before launch. The fact that Crytek is developing this third person action game doesn't help either.

Does Titanfall really get a lot of shit outside of mocking the heavy media push? The overall opinion to me seems to be at worst a game built specifically for a Mountain Dew bottle cap and at best the next Call of Duty. There's nothing standing out graphically one way or the other to argue over, and I thought everyone was of the opinion that it looks fun and will probably be very successful.

I wouldn't blame consoles imo. Loss of talent for sure

Do they have a separate team that deals with military contracts or did those teams end up nabbing some of their game centric developers? Really don't now what happened but ever since Crysis 1, Crytek have fumbled.

I also find Cryteks console offerings sub par. Full of tick box tech features but ultimately average graphics and awful IQ (talking PS3/360). Those sub HD resolutions coupled with aliasing, lack of AF and awful frame rate, don't know why they even bothered to try and claim graphical superiority on current gen consoles. Hell, I don't even love their implementation of HDR and find its often too obtuse and bloomy, and that was one of the touted and well boasted graphical features.

Oh Crytek.

Why do they even let you play that?
It looks like a huge pain in the ass to play.
Also graphically its not impressive.

Don't they have anything better to show off?

I really want to like this game but damn. The combat and animations are so bad. The water effect is just laughable. Either Microsoft isn't paying much for this game or Crytec is just using all the money to make Crysis 4 or something.

this is the worst that I've seen this game look. Rather embarrassing actually...and I'm somewhat interested in it.

Good graphics can't save their titles. They are both mediocre shooters.

There were rumors of Crytek treating their employees like shit, the rumors were probably true imo. It lead to key people departing the studio....and I don't know what happened to Crytek Budapest, they made one great game and then vanished

Could be some decent button mashing fun but it looks a long ways away from 'playing the cut-scene'. Animations are too stilted and the movements look too mechanical in gameplay.

This. I've tried to see the good here because it is such a great source material for a brawler, but it just looks terrible once the movement starts. Animation is so important for a game like this. No fluidity between actions and they often turn as if on swivels.

Are you for real? That warrior persecution complex. I don't know how you can look at videos and GIFs (even many of the journo impressions and previews) of this game and genuinely believe the negativity is about the console and not the game.

Irrespective of the platform, this game would have been torn apart.

This isn't about the game getting criticism it deserves. This is about how some people are choosing to go about it. There's no attempt to look at the game objectively with the level of understanding you expect from supposed highly informed gamers that know bugs when they see them, or at a different level, can tell when a lack of skill or basic competence from the person playing the game is making the game look even worse. Does that excuse the bugs? No, they absolutely don't.

There's legit criticism to be made of this game, and nobody questions that, but what I see going on this thread, and usually in other threads regarding this game is nothing but badly disguised platform trolling at its most extreme. No attempt to seriously discuss the game because there's any shred of actual interest in it, but people who only ever enter the thread to say the same tired crap over and over, like "press A to win" or "aaaaaaaa" or "pay to win". Believe me I'm not surprised that you find nothing at all wrong with any of this.

For example, what level of silly season nonsense leads people to say the game's graphics suck based on a very low quality video on youtube that, if they were actually paying attention, and were here to do anything other than troll an Xbox One exclusive, they would know is in no way remotely representative of what this game actually looks like. And then to follow that up by posting shitty screen caps also from that same shitty quality video to somehow prove their point is, to me, blatant trolling. This is the same build that was at Gamescom, and of which there are far better quality videos available online showcasing the game, if nothing else, is quite strong graphically. I couldn't begin to take anyone seriously that's trying to make a serious statement on this game's graphics based on this youtube video, or only what they feel showcases it in its worst possible light. That's straight out of the console warrior playbook. Let me only find the things that I think makes this game look bad, and avoid everything that I think makes it look pretty good or decent. And then as it pertains to the gameplay, yes, we all know there's bugs in this game that if they ship with the final game, will doom it entirely. We've seen plenty enough of these bugs at Gamescom. However, there's also footage that shows the game more closely resembling what you suspect the devs envision their game to eventually be when bugs aren't completely ruining the experience, or when the player actually knows what he's doing.

There was a twitch interview yesterday from pax where crytek was playing the game, and there wasn't nearly as many bugs in that video. In fact, there may have been none at all, although I could be mistaken, and the guy playing for crytek was pretty damn good at the game, which especially made the combat look rather solid and more entertaining, but I don't see any signs of that video being online anywhere.

dammit, dammit, dammit....

this and Forza are the only reason i even want an Xbone right now...but this game just looks worse and worse the more i see...Forza is just not enough for me to plop down $500 on the Xbone...

This seems hard to believe, wanna see the video to judge by myself.
EDIT: Also just because he didn't make it buggy does not mean the game is not buggy. Maybe he played carefully to not introduce those bugs.

The persecution complex is stiffening in you lol. What you've described happens with every game on every platform. Your own bias is exemplifying this notion that it's mainly console warrior orientated. Hell look at games like Knack and DriveClub as a good example, and neither of those games are nearly as broken or glitchy as Ryse has been shown to be. DriveClubs visuals were judged extensively off of only E3 off screen footage for a while, hell I even chimed in myself with criticism. Whilst off screen footage isn't close to being a good way to judge a games visuals, it is still one way, and privy to opinion contrary to what you may or may not want.

Truth be told, I genuinely can't remember a worse showing of a major AAA title in years. Glitches galore, terrible gameplay, animations, AI, awful net code, changing major gameplay elements last minute (from auto finishing endless QTEs to constant A mashing), not having a clear vision, having pretty uninteresting looking and sounding characters etc. The latter can be excused, but the former? Unbelievable they're actually showing it off. It may actually look worse mechanically than LAIR and Too Human did imo. Ryse (as many of the GIFs show), looks utterly shallow and completely unfinished. No where near being just a month or two off.

But you never know I suppose...

I love this guy.

It feels strange to say this, but a Kinect game would've been better. Mimicking Roman soldiers moves sounds way more interesting than this "gameplay".

You can put lipstick on this pig if you want to, but I personally know it's still a pig.

And I can't for the life of me understand why people defend these games and consoles like it's their life essence. Conspiracy theories at every turn; you guys should be ashamed.

Or you know, maybe a lot of people don't think it looks very good. I would love for this to be a system selling beast, but atm it's looking pretty weak.

Ryse is getting ripped apart because it look like a horrible, janky, slapped together mess. Simple as that.

"Bu bu bu people don't like it because it's an Xbone game!!"

BS. Ryse would be ripped apart regardless of what platform it is on. That's fanboyism and victim complex talking.

SenjutsuSage, you are needed in another Ryse thread, this time you need to convince the IGN guys who played it that it is great.

That looks terrible. I was going to say it looks like somebody made Dynasty Warriors a 1 on 1 fighting game then took out half the moves.

Then I remember that already existed and was way better.

On the flip side, if it wasn't an Xbone launch game it would have a 3 page thread and fall into the pit of forgotten Rome-themed action games alongside Gladius.

It would have just been you miming hitting a giant A button.

FU-KING YES!!! THE SEQUEL TO CLAYFIGHTER 63 1/3 I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED!!!

LMFAO

seriously though... holy fuck @ how bad that looks. Ryse may be the dud of the century or it may come out of this, but right now it seems to be the Knack of the Xbox One lineup.

That's pretty unfair to Knack, which looks solid if unremarkable. I mean
