Saber Interactive works on an Xbox One game, may be Halo 2 Anniversary

If H2 Anniversary is real, I'd really love to see MS/343 reach out to current and former Bungie folks for a developer commentary track that I can listen to while I play. Now THAT would be an enticing feature. I suspect politics will get in the way of it actually happening though, even if 343 wanted to do it.

Also, didn't someone on GAF once suggest 343 include the infamous E3 2003 demo in playable form in a hypothetical H2 Anniversary, and Frankie replied saying it was an "interesting idea" or something to that effect?

EDIT: It was the E3 2003 demo. Thanks El_Chino for correcting my terrible memory. E3 2004 was the behind-closed-doors Zanzibar 5-on-5 CTF playable demo.

Most of HaloGaf have wished for that.

Also it was the E3 2003 demo :p

yea frank said that.

To be honest. I'd take an H2 HD remake over another Halo. Granted matchmaking H2 is up, I'd never want another Halo title.

Seeing Lockout again in HD would really be something.

Blackout was just ugly looking.

I didn't get too far in the H1 remake, mainly cause I finished H1 so many times since it's launch.

The unannounced PC game is probably Halo 3's PC port.

I'm not really sure how the architecture is on the Xbox One, but didn't people say it is close to a PC? Maybe them porting H3 and H4 over to Xbox One is allowed them to also port it to PC.... I would honestly triple dip on H3 if it was on the PC(oh the modding <3) and came with Halo 2 Anniversary. While I didn't really like Halo 4, having it on PC as well would still be pretty cool. I'm sure mods on that would be awesome too.

You'd be more likely to know the truth than any of us. What did the folks at IGN Xbox think of Ntkrnl and his leaks?

While they are at it, they could also add the last level that they chopped off right before they released the game and not leave us midway hanging...

Just give me a 1:1 multiplayer experience to OG H2 (sans bugs) and I'll be an extremely happy camper.

I can't begin to count the hours I wasted playing H2 online. Such an incredible game...

Yup. I want to see a bunch of Halo 2's cut content put back in. The Juggernauts, the Forerunner tank (though PLEASE fit the original trilogy's aesthetics and not Halo 4), the Gravemind battle, the fight on the Dreadnaught at the end...

Or vice-versa, though to clarify I think Halo 4 PC would be contingent upon Halo 3 PC doing well.

Alot of that was halo 3 cut content though

I didn't think the last port was all that big of a deal and this one doesn't stir me either. I just don't often see myself getting worked up over old ports.

But if your going to do it, might as well add some content to make it worth while.

I'd be down for halo 2 if the mp was the same. Playing through CE anniversary was fantastic and if Halo 2 had the same upgraded graphics, I might be able to look over the average campaign.

I remember the days of clan on clan warfare and the rage inducing standby deal.

There's a lot of people here assuming they're going to add/keep the Halo 2 MP. How do we know (assuming it's a thing), that it won't be just like Anniversary where only the campaign was re-done.

Personally, I don't have an issue with that (I replayed that campaign a million times, as CE), I just don't want to see floods of posts after its release with tons of people expecting something that probably wasn't going to be there to begin with.

And I hope they bring it to the 360 or Anniversary to the One. But that's just me.

Two reasons. Firstly, there is no existing Halo game on Xbox one. So they can't just add the maps to an existing game as s map pack, like they did with Reach. Secondly, Halo 2 had online multiplayer and unlike Halo 1 wouldn't need to be completely rewritten to get it to function over the interwebs.

Also if you believe it's coming at all, the same poster who leaked that said it would have multiplayer.

For the halo 2 anniversary, my perfect outcome would be a redo of the full multiplayer, all maps included. If they fix the button glitches and super bouncing that is fine. It has to be the original halo 2 mp. I dont want that halo 4 map pack bullshit. Do it right, or don't do it at all.

For the single player I would love to see them add on the full ending of the game. And if they could put in the E3 demo that would be amazing. That is the perfect port for me.

Ntkrnl's Halo 2 Anniversary rumors has gotten me incredibly excited and total willing to buy an Xbox One (which I wasn't before). I really hope the game is being developed and that it features the original Halo 2 multiplayer mode. If it has the original MP I will reserve it and buy an Xbox One for sure.

Halo 4 multiplayer with Halo 2 levels. Some gameplay tweaks. Similar to Reach/CEA.

Mark my words.

I still find the Halo 3/4 rumor hard to believe. Unless 343 drops multiplayer it would be strange to put out 3 different Halo's at once each with their own online community.

The unannounced PC game is probably Halo 3's PC port.

If it is just a straight port I don't think a studio would assign a concept artist to the project. It's not like Halo CE Anniversary where the game had remade levels/maps that needed new looks that had to be concepted first.

The thought has of course crossed my mind but no. Please God no.

They have to be aware of how disappointing that was last time. I really hope they spruce up Halo 2 MP and release that. It could be an awesome testing ground for proving/disproving the appeal of classic Halo MP versus Halo 4's interpretation.

It was cheap and cost effective last time, I'm sure that's the bottom line on such projects. Why else outsource the entire project in the first place?

The way I see it, you are as likely to get a updated H2 multiplayer (that isn't glorified Halo 4 maps) as you to have BXR, button glitches and super bouncing return.

I don't think it would be hard for it to keep higher numbers playing than Halo4 either, even with far fewer sales. Would be the perfect way to drum home to 343 the error of their ways.

Halo 2 online today would be awful.

A lot of people need to go back and play some on LAN after 3/Reach and even 4. Say what you will about those games, they didn't have the horrible imbalances, host advantage, and bugs that 2 did.

People just look back with nostalgia for 2 because besides Battlefront, there wasn't anything to play on Live that lasted more than 2 weeks. Everyone with xbox live played Halo 2.

They need to add ammo to the sword, fix the melee lunge and Plasma Pistol tracking, and do MAJOR work to the netcode to make it anything other than a novelty if they re-release it. By that point it would hardly feel like Halo 2. It needs to play like you remember Halo 2 playing, not how it actually was, If that makes sense.

This is coming from someone with about 12,000 games of Halo 2 played by the way.

Ntkrnl said they were doing "ALL KINDS OF SHIT" to the the game, and when I asked him he said yes to that applying to campaign, so I'm hopeful.

Wasn't it rumored by insiders that there was a working Halo 3 PC port?

I still find the Halo 3/4 rumor hard to believe. Unless 343 drops multiplayer it would be strange to put out 3 different Halo's at once each with their own online community.

Why not? Other games have had big game packs in them. There was the Gears of War trilogy pack. Sure it didn't included ports of previous gen games, but the God of War Saga did, and that included 5 whole games.

Now let's just hope Halo 3 and 4 aren't digital downloads. Ugh.

All I know is whoever is handling this rumored Halo 2 Anniversary better not mess it up.
Especially since it's apparently going to have Halo 2 MP included as well. Which if true will hop me right back on Xbox Live.

I really do hope it's true, and I also hope they go all out with every DLC map remade, and that the game will ship with all of them. It would be beyond fantastic.

I still play Halo 2 once in awhile with friends on System Link. But what you said does make sense. While I have gotten so used to the way it plays to this day, it does obviously need some balancing in certain regards. Seems like no one is really against that though. For me personally I just don't want to see "Halo 2 Maps but Halo 4 MP for everything else". As long as it's marketed as Classic MP I don't think to they'll have an issue giving us basically the original Halo 2 MP experiences along with those fixes.

I still say to this day that Halo 2 had a better campaign than Halo 1. Hell it was pretty damn impressive for a game that was rushed as well. Still my favorite out of all the main campaigns and yes I have played it recently. Only Halo Reach out of the 360 titles came close to being just as fun.

What makes you think they cant clean the bugs up? Bungie did back then for the most part. You are exaggerating. Back then there was more like Rainbow six so that is completely false. Don't discredit Halo 2. It still influences games today with the matchmaking that it introduced. I can play Halo 2 right now and its as fun as i remember,is it that hard to understand people prefer that style of play over modern shooters?

Not too far fledged. However if anyone's porting Halo, it better be first party studio like 343.

Would be quite ridiculous that the best Halo game is not ported by Microsoft themselves.

ridiculous would be 343 wasting time on halo 2 remake instead of working on 5.
Not that I care about either.

Strictly talking about multiplayer, a repacking of previously released games on their original platform isn't the same as dropping three different ports, each with their own separate multiplayer mode, at the same time on a new system. Back in 2011 someone from 343 mentioned that they didn't want a standalone CE multiplayer mode for Anniversary because it would split up the year old Reach playerbase. I doubt they would want to split Halo 2 Anniversary's multiplayer population three ways at day 1 of its release.

I hope the ports do happen but I'm still not sold on the rumor. I do agree that a digital only release for the ports would be a disappointment, a nice big box set for the games would be great.

I hope they keep the campaign the same for the most part. Obviously improve the things that are in need of improvement though.

ntkrnl said there'd be tons of stuff added or something, so that makes me a little cautious. I hope it's not a "reimagining" of Halo 2, so to speak. There's too much they have to do to the original to make this game last 2 generations later, IMO...

They probably should've done this earlier so we could have gotten all the Halo games in true HD on the 360.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind if they went into the old Design Document and brought some of those Cut levels back to life, if only to make the story more smoother.

Its no mystery that they ran out of time on alot of story based missions and had to remove them to get it out on timd

But I mentioned Gears of War didn't I? All three of those games had multiplayer.

Also splitting the player base is such a bullshit reason. I'm actually really upset at them now for not including the original multiplayer because oh my goodness, just been playing CE PC multiplayer last couple days and boy is that fun.

But I mentioned Gears of War didn't I? All three of those games had multiplayer.

Each of those games had come and gone on the 360 having their own "moment" in the sun for about two years before the next game came out. That collection wasn't a set of "new" games to the platform launching all at once but this Halo one would be.

Also splitting the player base is such a bullshit reason. I'm actually really upset at them now for not including the original multiplayer because oh my goodness, just been playing CE PC multiplayer last couple days and boy is that fun.

That wasn't the only reason it didn't happen, a limited dev timeframe and no network infrastructure in the original game were a big part of it too.

Gears didn't get a traditional trilogy pack. It included Gears 1/2 and the All Fronts Collection which was all the DLC for Gears 2.

I find it weird how Microsoft didn't do proper "GOTY" versions for Gears 3/Judgment. Pretty sure it was the same for Halo 3/Reach?

Wash your mouth out with soap Dani. The only problem with this though process is halo 4 is not an Xbox One game. Halo 2 anniversary will be an xbox one game. Need to push systems.
