Sales of PS4 Camera & Move controller skyrocket after PS VR announcement

I'm mainly trying to clear up camera confusion. Everyone has been calling it the Eye or Eye Toy all over place.

It's sony's iTouch

Yeah, I know. I think we actually may need a thread for it. There is a lot more confusion than I thought there would be. Maybe because people aren't familiar with the PS4s camera.

I'm sure Sony is finally able to Move some of that excess stock they have.

I just picked up two controllers and a charging base for essentially nothing thanks to cash back rewards.

i agree.

Camera (required): the 'PlayStation 4 Camera'

PS Eye camera not compatible due to only having one lense, etc. PS4 camera is a stereoscopic camera, IIRC, and that's how it accurately tracks the headset, DS4, and Move controllers.

Move Controllers (some games require, some do not): 'Playstation Move Motion Controller'

A lot of people are talking about the Move controllers as if they are a HARD requirement. They are not, but some software DOES require them. A lot of software is being made only for DS4, or compatible with either control method. This all depends on the developers, but if you really want the full PSVR experience it's highly suggested to get at least one. Some games that require Move will need 2 controllers (not a Move controller and Nav controller, but 2 actual Move wands with the light ball) and some will probably work fine with just one.

The only games I can think of off the top of my head that work with DS4 really well and don't (to my knowledge) support Move controllers are Battlezone and RIGS.

a local shop around here has a display case FULL of the cameras marked down. gonna go after work and see what they're selling them for and maybe get one

I'd love to get move controllers but also they might come out with ps4 branded ones and i'd much rather have that.

hmmm

I considered doing this but I'm still not sure which VR I will be getting. Vive is looking like the one. But with PS4 sales in the millions (soon billions) I think PSVR is gna get the most support initially.

I like to imagine there is an old man with a long grey beard in an Amazon fulfilment snoring in his chair.

Bob: Wake up Marv...we need you.
Marv startles awake.
Marv: What!?! What is it.
Bob: They're buying them....all of them!
Marv's face trembles with determination.
Marv: You can count on me.

But with PS4 sales in the millions (soon billions)

...what?

It's funny how people are flipping out about how huge a success this is, when I've been staring at this number for the last 45 minutes:

I already have a couple move controllers, but I'm waiting on Sony to announce an upgraded Move controller. It baffles me that they released the thing without analog and that the navigation controller has no tracking hardware.

Just as I've always thought about VR. It's the greatest step gaming has taken since the switch from 2D to 3D. I couldn't be happier about the general consensus being the same too!

I already have 1 Move controller and 1 navigational controller that I bought for my PS3 to play HotD 3, Dead Space Extraction and Child of Eden, will just pick up the bundle once it's available.

And I know that when I played Until Dawn: Rush of Blood on PSVR at PSX last December, I don't think the Move controllers I used were particularly different or updated from the ones that came to the PS3.

they aren't, afaik. Sony commented a while back that they aren't redesigning the Move controllers but didn't specify why. it's still possible they will eventually refresh them, but they probably want to wait until PSVR is out first so they don't make anyone feel burned for having the old ones.

an eventual redesign is needed though:
-no D-pad on the Move wands, only the Nav (IIRC Sony said Nav isn't compatible with PSVR)
-some people have complained about the ergonomics of the Move wands
-the placement of the X, O, triangle, square buttons aren't intuitive since they don't match up with a regular DS controller
-it could stand to be slimmed down a little and the light balls be a little smaller
-uses an old mini USB port like the DS3 instead of a micro like DS4
-could benefit from updated vibration tech like the DS4 has, as well as updated gyro sensors, etc.

Well done, cropping out the price!

And to think, an online sellers stock isn't moving because other sellers may have it cheaper!

You can preorder a PSVR from the EBGAMES site for $550 and they have had it in stock for HOURS!

Thats it, pack it in, the thing is a bust.

EDIT - RE: Move redesign - I do not think it will happen before launch. I think they want to see adoption rates before committing to another warehouse full of Moves, lol.

I don't think anyone ever though this was going to be DOA, but like the Kinect that initially sold like hot cakes, this can sell greatly in the beginning and still get abandoned by developers because they do not want to shift their resources to make games designed for it, they would include a crappy gimmick or they just stop making important games other than shovelware.

All VR is Dead on Arrival

Every single VR thread on Gaf has been full of idiots that truly believe that and a quick look at literally any one of them will show as much.

Once the headsets are out and the needlessly cynical idiots have finally tried it for themselves, there will be so much Crow to eat that we may need to watch out that the entire species doesn't go extinct.

And the content will be there because of how revolutionary/downright awesome the technology is, Kinect had no games because Kinect was fundamentally a stupid way to play videogames.

Playing (suitable) games in VR with a sense of "Presence" adds alot more to the experience than Kinect did.

Bought Two PS moves and Navigation Controllers back in 2011 during a crazy sale/ clearance at gamestop where all PS Move accessories were 50% off.

Over the years I've been off an on about selling them after I was done playing all the light gun games I could get on PS3 but I'll obviously be keeping them now.

Yeah, there are a few things that I'm not crazy about with the Move controller itself - mostly due to the ergonomics of the trigger (it's a bit lower than I'd like it to be) and button placements. The weight could also be shed a bit, since it's quite heavier than a Wii remote.

Still, as I'm not in any rush to preorder until the bundle is offered, we'll see if Sony does have any plans to at least redesign some aspects of the Move controller.

same. i have 1 Move and 1 Nav, and the PS4 camera. i'm going to wait till the full blowout on what's launching with PSVR and if there are any plans for updated controllers before buying a second wand.

if i end up having to get another plain old wand that's fine. i'm more interested in PSVR in general.

they already said that there will be no redesign of the move controller.

Won't lie, as soon as this announcement was made I ordered 2 PS Move controllers off of Amazon.

Deep down I feel like a hypocrite because I constantly dumped on Sony when PS Move was announced, I thought it was a stupid gimmick that Sony was using to win over the filthy casual Wii demo.

Lol of course they would "skyrocket". When something is dead for so long as the PS4 camera and Move were even if a handful of people bought them it will be considered as "skyrocketing sales".

I remember when the PS4 camera was sold out early at launch due to the playroom craze lol

I also remember all those GAF threads for crazy drunk playroom sessions

I imagine if you don't buy now, there will be plenty of PS Cameras to go around between now and VR launch. Heck, I might even suspect Sony of holding shipments of the camera until VR launch so they will be saturated on the market.

Don't understand what the rush is, unless there were people on the fence that just got pushed to buy one due to VR use and want to use it right now for stuff like twitch streaming.

i think people are expecting prices to be closer to msrp the closer it is to launch.

They better not raise the prices of the cameras closer to launch. That would be shitty.

eh...i mean retailers can price it whatever they want. that's not sony. they just set the recommended msrp.

when stuff is selling well they generally don't get marked down as often. i'd expect it to be full msrp more often than not if they are seeing steady sales of the required peripherals.

You mean people don't want to buy from 3rd party seller who charge arms and legs if they don't have to? Who'd thunk?

Fact is, at this point in time, Amazon UK doesn't have PS4 camera for sale anymore and the only way to get them is via 3rd party sellers, who'd definitely rip you off.
