Sam Mendes very likely to return for Bond 24

The opening action sequence is what I call wasting money. Cars falling around, roof top bike chase, shooting, train sequence...and 0 sense of excitement, of humph. Things were just...happening but not really putting you at the edge of your seat.

Sam Mendes is a soft director.

Problem with the opening set piece is that there were WAY too many cuts. I think Bond jumping from the crane to the train car had 3 cuts alone.

There's tradition, and then there's realising why maybe five films out of 23 are genuinely great. The Bond formula is the worst thing about Bond. Casino Royale did well to shake it up and loosen those chains.

Funny thing is that Casino Royale actually kept the the gun barrel at the beginning.

That was another thing that really irritated me about Skyfall.

We already got plenty of wink-wink-nudge-nudge bullshit in Die Another Day. No more, please.

Well, that won't be an issue for another 10 years.

The opening shot of Skyfall is better than opening with the gun barrel. Its such a jolt. Way more effective at setting the tone of the rest of the sequence.

Agreed. Its a shame the clusterfuck that was QoS used the gun barrel at the end; I prefer to ignore that film took place. It makes for a better thematic over the Craig films than the crappy 'oh shit we don't have a film lets pretend to have a thematic story about Bond becoming Bond'.

Thank fuck Mendes might be coming back. Be interesting to see where the franchise goes now.

QoS is definitely the weak link, but there are at least a few decent moments. The gun fight in the opera house is a stand out for me. Along with the opening car chase. The end is so bizarre though. The interior of the hotel looks Bond-esque but the actual sequence is really damn weird. It's just a bizzarrely thin movie that goes through the motions. All chase sequences, GIJoe style (over land and sea and aiiiir, Daniel Craig is there).

I'm definitely a subscriber to the watch QoS back to back with CR. I don't think it should be entirely written off.

All in all, I would have been fine if the gun barrel has never come back. CR's is the best use of it ever. Quit while you're ahead.

They did it in a way that felt organic. I prefer that to just randomly walking in and shooting.

Actually, they could have totally done it for QoS too. When he's fighting the dirty MI6 guy and they're falling over the scaffolds, they could have done the gun barrel at the end of the fall and have Bond suspended as it does the gun barrel thing.

No he has to walk into the gun barrel sight!

I like the cut of your jib.

exactly. it actually reminded me of the car chase in the get carter which is the most unexciting chase ever put on film.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. I was like, "that's it?"

Is Deakins gonna be back?

I just watched Skyfall the other day and am kind of shocked that it did so well at the BO. It really wasnt all that good.

roger moore and pierce brosnan in bond 24: the bucket list

they're both mi6 retirees and decide to fulfill their bucket list before they...kick the bucket aha

bond 24: solo's revenge

after the critical and commercial success that skyfall is, solo hires roger moore to make a true James Bond™ film to dethrone skyfall once and for all.

You do. You will.

Nah, I'll just go back to not watching bond until it is something appealing to me. I only got roped into watching skyfall with friends and would never have done so of my own accord. Next time it comes up i'll just redirect the flow to whatever the latest poo Marvel movie is, as I at least have no attachment to those properties and can enjoy the dumb fun to a large extent.

i might be wrong here, but i'm pretty sure there were less cuts in the film than in the trailer in which they first showed that scene. 2-3 vs. 4... i think.

Personally, I think every Bond film up until Casino Royale is awful and cheesy as hell. I literally hate them with a passion.

The only thing I like about the old Bond film is the Live and Let Die song. Best Bond film to date.

I want them to bring Camille back if they ever revisit Quantum. Olga is unimaginably beautiful and I'd love for her to actually have something to do in the film.
I feel the same way. I really liked her character in that film even though she was a bit underused.

This post confuses me. So you hate every Bond film to hate, but you love the Live and Let Die theme? And I'm guessing LALD is your favorite film? Did you mean to say theme?

Personally, I've found that putting on subtitles helps my enjoyment of the older Bond films immensely. A lot of good dialogue/plot exposition gets lost with soft British accents.

Isn't Craig just definitely in for one more, with the option for a 2nd? I remember an interview before Skyfall where a producer kept talking about how they have Craig for at least 2 more and he kept insisting it was 1 more.

Craig is already done with his contractually obligated films. But there are 2 options, for Bond 24 and Bond 25.

I would have thought they'd give Cavill another chance, but now that he's Superman, that seems extremely unlikely.

Cavill taking on Supes was the death knell of his chance at Bond in my eyes.

It strikes me as a poor long-term decision on Cavill's part. He probably would have been handed the role on a silver platter once Craig's time was up.

Bond remains hugely popular worldwide, while Superman's popularity has been waning for decades. If Man of Steel reverses the trend, I'll eat crow, but I just don't see it happening.

BTW Ben Wishaw has said very recently that Craig will do the next THREE films, bringing him up to 6. I dunno about that, and it's hardly confirmation, but he's probably not a bad source.

Wishaw can see into the future confirmed. You'll hear it here first.
