The opening action sequence is what I call wasting money. Cars falling around, roof top bike chase, shooting, train sequence...and 0 sense of excitement, of humph. Things were just...happening but not really putting you at the edge of your seat.

Problem with the opening set piece is that there were WAY too many cuts. I think Bond jumping from the crane to the train car had 3 cuts alone.
There's tradition, and then there's realising why maybe five films out of 23 are genuinely great. The Bond formula is the worst thing about Bond. Casino Royale did well to shake it up and loosen those chains.
Funny thing is that Casino Royale actually kept the the gun barrel at the beginning.
That was another thing that really irritated me about Skyfall.
We already got plenty of wink-wink-nudge-nudge bullshit in Die Another Day. No more, please.
