we did it reddit! another victory for apple!

im caught in the apple ecosystem because i like their laptops too much. i had a windows laptop for years and hated it, im sure the new ultrabooks are good, but just a bad taste in my mouth.
i upgraded to a 6S plus two weeks ago because it was on sale cheap af and has a headphone port. guy at best buy was trying to make fun of me because i was buying an iPhone with the Note 7 coming out. i don't know why these guys try to talk shit about what you're buying, its not a good sales tactic

T-Mobile tweeted out that they are suspending sales and basically waiting for further info from Samsung.

Looks like they will be doing replacements just don't know the timeframe.

There is a type of uninformed nerd who plays sides and thinks he knows more than he does who is especially attracted to entry level sales like Best Buy.

Yes. But if it is a minuscule percent, even if that is a large number of phones sold worldwide, I can imagine it would be much easier to miss while testing. So I give them the benefit of the doubt. Manufacturers try to screen for problems like this, and I'm sure Samsung did what they could to prevent the problem. This slipped through. They are making the right moves to fix it. I am sure their process will improve in the future.

The issue is the phone has only been out a week so that number probably would have gone up after more use of those 1 million phones

That's possible but speculative.

The number of affected phones may have increased, but the percentage of affected phones may not have.

And I mean, the whole point of the recall is to prevent that outcome. So why is it a bad thing?

They did not recall phones in China, which used a different battery supplier. So they have a non-exploding source for batteries. I assume they will be able to create more non-exploding phones in the future.

Disappointing. The phone was on track to being the best phone on the market for a while.

One thing sticks out:

To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say recalling over 1 million devices on 35 cases doesn't add up. The number is either waaaaaaaaaay higher than reported OR the defect is something they discovered during manufacturing and someone decided "We'll deal with it after launch". That someone has likely been 'let-go' by now.

What a nightmare for Samsung, especially in a year where they have the opportunity to capitalize on some great phones (S7 and S7 Edge) and Apple fucking up and pissing people off with the 7.

Will be quite the hit to their bottom line I would expect.

The phone is exploding. That's super dangerous, lol. Imagine if it happened when somebody was using VR?

Probably re-prioritise removeable batteries again huh, Sammy?

That sucks but I still want one. Hopefully there will be big discounts once they start selling them again as I'm up for a renew in December.

It's still a great phone, imo

Samsung just be glad that Note is still the only phone in its league atm.

Now if iphone 7 added stylus support...

Isn't that the pencil?

Has it actually exploded during use though? I thought the scare was from a shipment of them exploding in storage. I mean, for all we know maybe there was outside circumstances that are being blamed on the device, right?

Granted I haven't kept up with the other thread after the initial report so I apologize if more reports have come out that I'm not aware of...

Your average smart phone might have 35 battery fails over a year not a couple of weeks like the Note 7.

I would say something seriously wrong with the charge protection circuitry on the battery.

The exploding issue isn't the only issue that Note7 has. It also has other issues like S-Pen issue and rebooting/crashing issue. They can make use of the recall and fix those issues as well

Well that's fucking awkward. And poorly timed, too.

By the time iPhone 7 comes around, the Note 7 will be back on the shelves with a fixed battery. And a headphone jack.

And yet by then the window of opportunity is closed because Apple is likely going to steal the spotlight regardless.

7 has always been my favourite number, but it seems like all the major phones are destined to be major disappointments with their worst iteration when when hit number 7.

let's be honest. Note recall or no, the new iPhone is still going to sell a shit ton

Well I guess I'm returning mine today since it's the last day of my return period. I still have my 6s plus but I was really starting to love this phone and all the tweaks I had made for it. My plan is to evaluate my options and read up in the IP7. Hopefully by the time I get back from vacation, the Note 7 will have its shit together.

Wow. What are they even going to do. I'm guessing there's millions of these out there, tens of millions? The job of replacing the internal battery in every single one is a monumental task. Wow this could seriously fuck Samsung up for a long time and have major knock on effects. And then you have potential class action lawsuits that they even got to the stage of selling such a faulty device..

That's what I'm doing with my wife's phone (she still has her 6 Plus). But I'm sad about it because that likely means the pre-order goodies are off the table. So no 256GB microSD card and no $150 gift card... :-(

I don't care how few have actually blown up so far.
I don't want a potential explosion anywhere near my body
thats every smartphone lol.

high power cpu and highly flammable battery in the thinnest and most compact design.

Explosions happen all the time, even apple phones.

So I read that it was just 35 cases that was reported? If was really usb-C compliance issues, holy shit lol

Samsung claims it was 35 cases so far, but state they investigated and found a 'battery cell issue'. Then they started the recall.

Samsung has done an investigation and deemed it to not be just some isolated issues that other models have due to using faulty 3rd party accessories, since they have said it is due to battery cell issue.

I don't see why we should be looking at the percentage instead of the raw numbers.

Well, this is disappointing. I hope this doesn't sour people on the Note line in the future. It's the only line of phones with Wacom tech and I'd hate to see it go.

I'm pretty happy with my Note 3 (with a Note 7 rom port) as a second line. Despite this recall, I'm definitely considering upgrading my main line to a newer Note in the future.

As a owner of the note 7 I am deeply disappointed by this. I'm curious if Samsung will discount the phone for current owners.

So my G4 (which I loved) died due to a known MB failure issue and now the Note 7 I bought to replace it (which I love) is being recalled due to catching on fire. I'm having some really bad luck with phones over the last couple weeks :(

Now.... What's the chances of apple sabotaging the manufacturing line to allow this issue?

I know I'm looking too much into it

But considering all the bad things about the new iPhone. I assumed they could had paid a hefty amount to sabotage the release of note 7.

Or maybe I'm just a lunatic. Haha don't mind me.
