Samsung Galaxy S4 pictures/specs leak

Just played with some phones in the Verizon store. The S3 isn't as ugly as I remember it oddly enough. The DNA is huge and kind of a pain to use so if the S4 is of comparable size then I don't know. The DNA is sexy as hell but I had to keep readjusting my hand to even use the thing. I know the S3 isn't drastically smaller but it's somehow a lot more manageable.

I hope the S3 plus rumor is true. I hate choosing a phone. Pain in my arse.

do people have small hands or something? i operate my 5.5" Note 2 with one hand.

Are we expecting full details and specs including pictures in tomorrows announcement? A release date, too? I don't know how these announcements typically go.

yup, but keep in mind that you shouldn't take everything for face value unless it's specifically stated. For instance the international version might have the exynos cpu while the USA version doesn't. Stuff like that. Wait for press releases for specific details. But yeah we generally get everything.

Wonderful! Thank you.

I know we aren't gonna get anything but a plastic back for removable battery reasons (and samsung easier to manufacture reasons) but at LEAST they managed to fit some aluminium around the edges of the S4 so it can at least feel higher quality. I don't want that glossy plastic touching these beautiful hands unless I have no choice.

if you want the illusion of quality, there's at least One device i can think of before this.

That battery life must have sucked right?

It was okay after they updated the phone. The thing that killed it was when 4G was still new in my area and it would switch between 3G and 4G all the time, constantly searching for a network. That's a problem of the past now.

Too bad HTC phones look pretty but are fragile, much like a supermodel. No thanks. "Premium materials" is code words for "looks like a Jaguar, as durable as one too." I'll buy the phone I know will last after a few years of daily wear and tear and the occasional drop on the floor. HTC phones have a reputation for falling apart after a few months, who cares how pretty they are the day you take one out of the box?
I'm glad you buy products with the intention of damaging them.

Indeed. 2600 mAh battery sounds good too. Screen looks LCD. I hope its LCD3 or something of similar quality.

What does 2600 mAh mean? Like what is the S3, and what is the iPhone 5? (I have an iPhone 5 and I'm underwhelmed with the battery, not trying to start a comparison discussion).

The S3 has a 2100 mah battery, the iPhone 5 has a 1440 mah battery. But you also have to keep in mind the iPhone only has to power a small 4 inch screen, whereas the S4 has to power a 5 inch full 1080p screen.

iPhone 5 is sub 2000mAh, S3 is 2100mAh (and has fantastic battery life I should add), the S4/S3 Plus is poised to have 2600mAh, which should be plenty.

If the screen is efficient and the OS is well optimized, the 2600mah should be really good in terms of battery life. Not GREAT but definitely better than anything else out not named the razr maxx (phablets no county).

Relatively speaking that battery should be on par with the note 2's right?

2600, 3100

I think we can say great battery life.

Screen size difference etc.

not sure it works like that :P And that's only a 720p screen! This will be a 1080p one. Hard to tell if that offsets the smaller size or anything. But if all goes well it should definitely be good-don't have to worry about the day-battery life.

I don't know if it's been answered before, but is the change from AMOLED to LCD due to those problems that Samsung was having with 1080 AMOLED displays? Or do they believe LCD to be a better tech going forward?

It's not confirmed and if it does happen it might only be for one region. Something to do with production issues.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but the camera lens is much bigger than the one on the current S3. New improved larger sensor and lens? Also the rear speaker placement is more intelligent too.

you don't get it.. 4.8 was just right, 4.99 is just too big!

there has to be a line, and the line is drawn here, at 4.81

I remember I think back in the heady early smartphone days, when 4.3 phones were new and huge. I made posts on the internet predicting about how 4.0 or 4.1 would be the "sweet spot" where phones would settle down at. 4.3 was just too big.

Boy was I an idiot. I now have (and love) a 4.8 phone and it seems 5" is next. I'd predict thats something like the final mainstream limit but even that seems tenous now.

Lol, the phone thats leaked is cracked. That must speak volumes of the fantastic plastic build quality.

Say what you will about Samsung phones, but my GS3 is very reliable. While half my friends sport cracked ass iPhones, I've dropped my GS3 from decent heights multiple times and it's still fine. The other day it knocked off the bathroom sink probably a 3 foot drop straight onto linoleum, straight blow to the screen, and was fine. Another time I dropped it onto concrete on the garage, it kind of struck a glancing blow and again, fine. This with no case, I carry my phone naked.

The thing being so light and plastic I think is what makes that possible. It doesn't have enough weight to easily break on dropping, and the rounded edges prevent direct hits, every blow is sort of a glancing one. I must say I have admiration for how tough Samsung builds their phones after this one.

That said, it feels cheap as hell. That's the negative.

Yeah, once screen sizes basically topped out now, and we hit 720P and above there isn't much left I greatly desire in a phone. Faster processors are nice, but nowhere near as compelling as say moving from my 4" GS1 to the 4.8 GS3. But one thing that would be fairly compelling is much better battery life. And I'm guessing the GS4 just might have that.

Now speaking to the GS4 leaked pics, pretty disappointed. I think Apple's patent trolling is probably to blame, so I cant directly blame Samsung, but I find the current GS3/Note design pretty dang ugly.

I think smaller manufacturers like Sony, Nokia, and HTC can make prettier, squarer, phones simply because they're small enough to fly under Apple's legal radar. Samsung however is directly in Apple's crosshairs.

With the S4 I was hoping for much more of the fabled premium feel and a new, not ugly design. Sadly it looks a whole lot like the GS3. The material does look like it may feel better though. Samsung did say the problems people had with the GS3 feeling cheap would be addressed, so I'm hopeful they did something.

Edit: and the leak claims a 8 core CPU??? Wtf?? That cant be...
