The design is fine for me, what I would want changed is :

Galaxy S5 ROM is a bit of a monster, taking up nearly 8GB of storage

Motherfucking Samsung and their OS full of crapware.

Spec wise it's probably going to be better in every way. Design wise, mehhh.

It's going to be funny if the software and performance end up being a huge improvement complemented by a longer battery life. People will be still saying that absolutely nothing changed on this phone and it was just an incremental upgrade. It's the same shit that goes down when Apple comes out with a new iPhone. No matter all how great of an internal improvement people will not be impressed if there's not a physical design change that's an improvement.

This is true. Though, Samsung definitely seems content with staying with this design for an extended period of time.

Just why is it so hard to make a phone with a very thin aluminum bezel? I just want the whole device in my hand to be basically all screen. I don't want any border. Put any physical buttons on the side and top.

I look at other phones and I see basically the same thing. The new HTC phone has these giant speakers on the front top and bottom, I just don't want to see that crap.

Why can't they just do this? They keep designing phones like it's 1979.

Maybe you should become a designer, since it's obvious you know so much.

Speakers on the front should be standard for phones and tablets. HTC and Google got it right with the One and the Nexus 10.

This looks inferior to the Xperia Z2.

The hardware design and UI are rather atrocious. It looks like the 2014 phone version of a 2001 eMachines running Windows XP.... Awful color choices everywhere. Bloatware. I'm not really sure why Samsung is the market leader based on their "designs", and I suspect they are not locked into that spot as other Android manufacturers step up their design game. It's a company I want to love, but they have just pushed me away with their lack of design culture.

I really liked my s3 which I'm still rocking but Samsung going the Apple route is now going to force me to something else. I'm debating to get my first iPhone this winter if they up the screen size

That is the least sensible post I have ever read. Samsung going the "Apple route" is going to force your to go to Apple?

Definitely some truth to this but at least the iPhone looks good. This design never looked great but they're still sticking with it. Compared to the iPhone and the Xperia line it looks cheap and amateurish.

Just paid off my phone and I'm looking for a new one. Almoooost bought the Note 3 from tmobile the other night. Still trying to wait to see what the latest and greatest is. The note 3 seems perfect but I read it doesn't have a good camera. I want a phone that has a badass camera on it, for daylight and night. Should I keep waiting? Or is this phone have have it? I

I'm thinking about getting the Note 3 this weekend. From the research I've done, the camera on it is actually nice. As a person who has big hands and an artist, I feel like the Note 3 is the best for me.

I feel like for all the hate this is getting, it will have extremely good battery life and top performance. They need to make more noise about the low power mode features, I won't be buying this phone but a display that can be lowered to 2 nits out of the box is a selling point to me. I hate turning my phone screen on in the dark and being blinded.

A horrific load of software bloat on a Samsung phone. Why does this not surprise me?

While I agree that the horribly weak design isn't exactly a dealbreaker for the phone when many people cover the back with more plastic anyway, Samsung earns no favours by utterly phoning in the design and aesthetics of their new flagship. They're the OEM that floods the market with more variations and models than anyone else, and the least they can do is put in more effort to visually differentiate their flagship from the rest of the Galaxy Grands, Aces, Cores, Expresses etc. Otherwise at one quick glance in a store it just looks like one more unremarkable Galaxy device in a sea of other Galaxy devices.

It's amazing to think Sony's Z2 has garnered considerably more positive press and reaction today than the latest in the line of Galaxy S devices - phones that in the last few years have arguably set the new benchmark for Android competitors. There has to be something more in the pipeline for this year...aside from the Note. Unless the Note 4 ever officially supplants the S5 as flagship. I mean, the Galaxy S series is sneaking up on the Notes in terms of screen size and physical footprint, so...

Really wish a company would bring out a decent Lumia 1020 competitor since WP doesn't work for me. Apple and Sony both care more about the form factor and they'll each have their own compromises, though in Sony's case its almost entirely due to terrible drivers. None of tge iPhone supply chain reports mention optical stabilization, and that is entirely necessary in whatever phone I purchase next.

The real kicker with the samsung software bloat is that they probably are going to include the same Region lock and efuse bullshit as the note 3. I am highly skeptial that they have learnt their lessons from that clusterfuck.

I do understand there are ways around it, but im not giving that company money on principle. They have got too big for their boots. Fuck off Samsung.

No. I'm in the camp that 1440p is overkill on a screen this size.

1080p is as good as I need.

I have Note 3 and would definitely welcome higher resolution. Remember that Samsung is using shitty pentile screens, it's effectively 2/3 of real 1080p. Nexus 5 screen looks much, much nicer than my Note 3.

Another Galaxy, another plastic toy with terrible software...

Normally it's just mildly infuriating when they make the phone even bigger, but this one takes the cake, it's almost galaxy fucking note size. That's why the note exists.... Brain is full of fuck.

I hope HTC and Sony take over Samsung's market share. Anything to keep Samsung from fucking up Android even more. Can't believe it took them until the Galaxy S5 to get rid of that fucking menu button.

And I have to say it again, this phone is so god damn ugly it blows my mind.

God it looks awful. This is coming from someone who liked the S3 design and was ok with the S4. Fuck off with this shit. Can't wait for the G3 to annihilate this monstrosity.

I am lost of words on bad that the Galaxy S5 looks. I thought Galaxy S4 looked ok, but icons became too large for it too look nice. Also amount of Samsung OS size really put me off from buying one. :|

I guess I will wait for the iPhone 6 or Xperia Z2 and hope both of them come to AT&T. Also where is the Exynos Core version of this phone?

PS: I own a Galaxy S2 and think the design and form factor is awesome!

I keep seeing people talk about "terrible software" in regards to the S4 and I don't get it. I've used both an S4 and an iPhone 4 extensively and I have to say that the S4 experience is on par with IOS for the most part. And this is coming from someone who prefers OSX over Windows.

What is people's big gripe with Android and/or the S4? I love my S4. Big screen, replaceable battery so I never worry about my battery going dead, hugely customizable operating system experience, responsive....I'm not sure what generates the S4 hate here.

As Galaxy S2 owner… The problem with with Galaxy S4 and is that Samsung has kept the same icon arrangement as it was back in Galaxy S2 or prior days. This might have worked ok on the lower resolution phones, but with higher resolution this makes the icons awkwardly large.

Also the OS footprint has become larger and larger and defeats the purpose of even owning 16 GB version of the phone. Unlike iOS which is small compared to Touchwiz.

16GB model? 2GB RAM? is there any doubt now that the Note is the Flagship and the S isn't?

Not really to me. Whereas the note used to be a larger galaxy S, now it is the other way around with the S being a smaller note to me. The phones are just too close in size for me now to want to pick the S over the note. I really want to see what the S5 mini will be like, but it it follows the trend of other smaller "mini" phones, it won't have the specs I desire.

The other flagships that are coming out, sony's and HTC's look nice and have some great features of course. For me though, I still want my physical home and capactive buttons and the ability to swap my battery/micro SD card. Those are all musts and I will go with the manufacturer that meets my needs. I just hope the S5 mini is not lacking in the specs, if not, I may, just may, have to go with the Note 4.

and Sony STILL doesn't have an IR port! that was a 2013 flagship feature!

You know what really sucks, Nexus phones never being on Verizon again...

looks like it's my rooted custom rom note II 4eva and eva on verizon 4G unlimited

oh well

Oddly appropriate. I'm certain the final device will offer improved performance, but their design team continues to produce unremarkable work. After using both the HTC One and the iPhone 5, it's apparent that plastic materials on phones should be limited to accessories and add-ons.

Furthermore, the 8GB OS overhead is ridiculous. Do we know why it takes up so much space?

Lots of new bundled stuff? Leftover beta stuff? Nobody knows.

I was surprised to see that this is all they got. Pretty underwhelming vs the expectation. The Xperia Z2 really does seem superior.

Samsung lost their touch with the S3. It's all downhill from here.

That Z2 is going to blow this out of the water. Hell, my Nexus 5 seems a better alternative to this. Glad I gave up on Samsung after the 3.

As a S4 user, I don't think I'm gonna upgrade mine to S5
As a Note 3 user I am so disappointed in Samsung for this phone. It had so much potential with rumors of a higher res screen, 64-bit processor, and at least 3GB of RAM but no we get a cheap upgrade from the S4 -_-
