Scariest game of all time?

I am a disaster when it comes to horror games. They scare me silly. I never watch horror movies for the same reason. I do dabble with horror games however. With Outlast on the horizon for the PS4 it got me wondering, what are the scariest games?

Dead Space scared the shit out of me. Mainly due to incredible sound design and some clever jumpy moments. Plus it's just so gruesome! On of the bosses I kept getting killed by, the death scene was absolutely horrific! Great game but truly disturbing.

So Gaf. What else is worth scaring myself with?

For me either Fatal Frame 1 or 2. Although the original Siren certainly scared me, which didn't help since it was so insanely difficult/obtuse.

Fatal Frame II - Crimson Butterfly
Hospital segment of Siren: Blood Curse

Amnesia is also pretty terrifying if really let yourself get into the experience and can ignore some of the ai patterns which are a bit iffy if you really mess with it.

I haven't played that many horror games but the scariest one I've played is Amnesia. That sound when you look at an enemy is absolutely terrifying. I would often stop and crouch in the corner of a room looking at the ground for a couple of minutes when a monster turned up.

Otherwise, some parts of STALKER SoC really had me on the edge of my seat. Those bloodsuckers man...

Alien vs Predator 2 for me.
What an adrenalin rush it was back then for me.
Seeing something comming closer and closer at you on the radar was enough to make you shiver in this game.

the game is 13 years old now tho and prolly wouldnt work on you anymore.

Im super hyped for Alien Isolation.

Resident evil 1 and 2

I had a heart attack as a kid when the dogs popped out of the window

Haha yeah that surely got everyone. The problem I've always had with Resident Evil games is whenever i reach the spiders. I'm petrified of spiders in real life. I have never played past them except for in Resident Evil 2 where i manned up

Fatal Frame 2 is the correct answer.

I found Amnesia pretty damn scary as well.

I'll also mention Condemned 2 only for a certain part
goddamn bear

I'd probably add Silent Hill 3 to the titles I mentioned above. Game is just pure hell, and while there are brief moments of respite the grotesquerie and dread invoked by the game is pretty unmatched. Although keep in mind this is from the perspective of one who has only played on hard where ammo is very limited.

Amnesia, Project Zero 2, Siren: Blood Curse are all scary as heck. I also got a huge kick out of the first level of that recent higher budget Slender game

For me it's easily the Fatal frame series. i have a hard time with horror thing where the concept is spirits in general. To the point of not wanting to even have the game installed in my desktop. =(

+1 for Amnesia. The only game I can think of that literally made the hairs stand up on my arms and send chills up my spine. Only got a few hours in until I completely stopped. Nope, won't go back...

the 3 games that have scared me the most are

Resident Evil 4
Dead Space (and sequel)
and Slender

i dont play very many scary games

BGE, facehuggers was so scary

When I started dating my wife she used to enjoy watching me play Doom 3.

Damned with friends can be creepy and scary.

The FEAR games I can't even reinstall let alone play.

First game I remember scaring me though is Resident Evil, damn dogs crashing through the window.

too scared to play these games

Do yourself a favor and play Alan Wake if you haven't yet, it's one of the most atmospheric games of the last generation. I'm currently replaying it on Nightmare difficulty, and it's really intense. Of course, you need to play it in complete darkness, preferably alone.

I think I remember Fatal Frame 1 being scarier than 2.. because it was harder. They have similar atmosphere, but in 2 at some point you realize you're not so scared because even when you get into a fight you'll be alright.

Silent Hill 2 for me - jump scares never bother me much but the slow burn of SH2's psychological creeps works a treat.

I don't think I was ever scared by that game other than a sorta screamer moment in the beginning. I actually had people over to play it with thinking it would be scary but they fell asleep. More of an action thriller than a horror game.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent gave me the creeps whenever you started losing sanity, and that hideous scratchy, grinding noise would start up. Got right under my skin every time. Such a fantastic game.

Im super hyped for Alien Isolation.

This. Hoping it's going to be a serious frightfest.
