Screw it! I finally bought a Wii U

That sounds exactly like my problem then. Mine was also quite subtle, you couldn't hear it if the volume of the tv was high enough, but I was convinced it wasn't supposed to sound like that.

update on my buzzing fan saga (low level fan hummmmmm, no Disc inserted).

bought some of these dudes and placed them under my Wii U:

...and it helped a lot. Now it sounds quite normal.

And for science: I tested 3 different Wii U´s by now...all of them had a comparable level of this subtle buzzing. Or my ears a really sensitive to this specific Wii U fan noise...lol.
All 3 consoles hummed like a distant bee hive in my rack...but with those acoustic absorbers it`s fine and tolerable.

obviously you should decide for yourself

but if you missed the entire wii generation this should be a no brainer imo

you would have, quite literally, hundreds of different games to choose from

Yup, I'm going for it. There's a handful of games I want to play on the Wii U right now and more coming in the future, but the added bonus of being able to dip into the Wii library has pushed me over the edge.

Is it possible to play Wii games with the classic controller instead of the wiimote on this system? I still have no desire to use motion control, unfortunately.

Just posted this in the other new Wii U owner thread.

Not sure if posted or not, didn't see a thread and I cant' make one.

Was just at Best Buy for Smash Fest and they have ZombiU for $9.99 new and $7.99 used

Link

If someone wants to spread that knowledge further.

Thought it was relevant for a new Wii U owner thread.

I too got a wii u early this week. It's a mario kart bundle. Also got donkey kong tropical freeze and a wii u pro controller. As my free game i was going to get wind waker. But after 4 days they still didn't sent me the code so i bought wind waker. If they someday send me the code i think i'll choose pikmin 3.

But... you already chose Wind Waker? That means you will get the code for Wind Waker. I had to pick which game i wanted, and got a code for THAT game. You don't get "a code" for "any" of those games. If you picked a game, that's the code you'll get.

you have to play Wii games with whatever controllers they originally supported. if a game used Wiimotion+ exclusively then that's what you have to use now.

Registering the game on Club Nintendo should have prompted you to select which game you wanted and the code should have been presented to you immediately.

The MK8 that comes in the bundle doesn't have a pin code. You need to link nintendo club to your network ID. I did it and it's there. Wii U deluxe registered, accounts linked.
I took a look at their tech support forums and there's some people with the same issue.
It seems Nintendo club's system is overloaded or something.

I didn't get to choose the game yet. The option is suposed to show up in the "to do" list after you register and link everything. But so far it didn't.
But.. well, i sent an e-mail to their support and there i chose WW. They didn't reply yet. I just hope i don't end up with another WW. :D

Absolutely get No More Heroes 1/2, NMH is one of my favourite games ever. That said, I just started NMH1 up last night, it hasn't aged very well!

Wario Land Shake It is fun and has a great look, as does Super Paper Mario. Zack and Wiki is a great puzzle game. Metroid Prime Trilogy is worth getting as well.

If you plan on homebrewing it, Quake GX is a really nice way to play an FPS classic.

I'd recommend

Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
Operation Rainfall Trilogy ( Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower)
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil REmake (especially if you haven't played the GC version)
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Madworld
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Wii Sports Resort

Fantastic, thank you very much - there's a number there I hadn't heard of, so I really appreciate it.

You're welcome, also forgot to add in my op that if you are interested youtuber MetalJesusRocks has a 3 part series on hidden gems for the Wii that is (imo) pretty good as it covers a wide range of games.

There's going to be a Wii U bundle with Skylanders for about $200 in Australia soon. I'm tempted as fuck... but Nintendo's E3 showing really does make the machine feel like it'll be another Gamecube; heaps of amazing first-party titles and a few good third-party ones. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it's something I'd have to come to terms with if I got the console lol.

You guys were right: I'm thoroughly enjoying Wind Waker HD.

I just finished my second dungeon and I'm beginning to see that this is a truly fantastic game. It reminds me so much of Beyond Good and Evil, which is my favorite game of all time.

There are definitely points at which I struggle, and I need a walkthrough to get me past a certain puzzle, but for the most part I'm sitting there and working through the processes on my own, making the solving of a particular puzzle that much more rewarding.

I'm around six to seven hours played, and haven't found myself bored or uninterested yet. An excellent first foray into the franchise.

I should finish right around the end of the month, at which point I'll redeem Pikmin 3 as free game.

The more I play this console, the more baffling it is how bad the Wii U's reputation is. I've had a blast since buying it.

Whoa...I'm never going to finish any of the games I own. I realize that now.

Not complaining per se, I guess I can hold off buying ANYTHING for a while.

Got a WiiU deluxe bundle deal with Mario Kart 8 for $134.99 CAD last week. At that price, couldn't resist. Enjoying that and Pikmin 3 so far (got from free download when you register).

I hope you got the Swift Sale from the Auction House.

Glad to hear. I consider it mid-tier Zelda, but even mid-tier Zelda is still usually better than most games. When you finish it I would recommend you pick up Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. If you've heard any hate toward either of those games, do ignore it.

Yeah, I'm gonna go to a Gamestop sometime soon and try to pick up a bunch of cheap Wii games I missed out on. Galaxy and Skyward Sword are high up on that list.

Lots of great games. Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros/Luigi U, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, DKC Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, Zelda Wind Waker HD, Sonic All Stars Racing, Mario Kart 8, etc etc. Don't forget about the games like Mass Effect 3, Batman Arkham City/Origins, Assassin's Creed 3 and 4, Darksiders 2, Call of Duty Black Ops 2/Ghost, Splinter Cell, etc (In the event you have not played them on other consoles)

After my first day, I'm really enjoying the system. Off Play is fantastic. Played some Mario Kart with an old friend tonight, and it took us right back to High School and battling in MK 64. There really is something Nintendo just has when it comes to their software.

I was bummed that the Virtual Console pickings are pretty slim. Bought Link to the past, but I was really hoping for Ocarina of Time. Wind Waker is a great substitute.

I'm really glad I picked it up over an xbox one. PS4 and Wii U is a great combo.

Now...to get a 2DS.....

As a guy who enjoys most Nintendo first party games, and is open to pretty much anything, do you have a top 5-10 suggestions of Wii games to get?

My 25+ game PS3/PS4/Vita backlog is screaming obscenities as I type this. Suck it games!
Little King's Story. Lovely little gem, if a little rough around the edges.

I'd only recommend Sonic All-Stars Racing: Transformed to others if their computer cannot run the PC version very well. It's not a terrible game on consoles, but even on moderate rigs it should be running at 60 frames per second on PC. Regularly discounted on Steam too.

How would motion controller work on wiiu pad?

I'm grabbing a Wii U this Friday, plan on getting MK8, Super Mario 3D and Zombi-U. Anything else I should buy? This is my first Nintendo console since N64...lol

I'm kinda interested in a Wii U, but now I'm reading here you get a free game to download if you buy one? Is that everywhere? (I'm in Holland) and is there a time limit on it?

I'm thinking about getting the Mario Kart bundle what games can you get for free?

You'll get a free game with MK8: TW101 or Zelda TWW are two excellent choices.

You can a free game with the Mario Kart 8 game or Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle till the end of July.

If you buy Mario Kart (including getting the Mario Kart bundle) and register the game on Club Nintendo by July 31st you can get one of the following games for free:

Yes, even hollanders get the promotion ;) But it's a Mario Kart 8 only promotion. Buy MK8 either as a bundle with the console or just the game (retail or e-shop) and you get to chose from 8 games (only downloadable from the e-shop, not retail/disc). The best of which being: Zelda WW, Monster Hunter 3U, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Nintendoland, New Super Mario Bros U...

And yes, there is a limit. I think the promotion lasts until the end of July(?) and you have to redeem the code before the end of August(?).

Alright thanks guys. Deal looks pretty good then. 300 euros for the Wii U, Mario Kart 8 and for me most likely Windwaker HD.

I'll think about it :)

If you look around, (well, at least in Belgium) you can find other deals cheaper than the MK bundle. My sis bought the ZeldaWW bundle for 250 (last stock), got MK8 for another 55 plus Pikmin 3 for free. Meaning, she paid €305 and got 3 awesome games for the price.

Windwaker HD is great. Be sure to pick up ZombiU and Rayman from amazon, amazon UK sells them dirt cheap, 7 and 12 pounds or something crazy lika that.

Indeed. Amazon UK has insane prices for many 3rd party Wii U games. Mass Effect 3, both Batman games, Assassins Creed 3/4, Injustice, Tekken, Splinter Cell... And definitely get Deus Ex if you haven't played that one yet. One of the best games on the system and little over 10 pounds.

just gonna ask this real quick here (since i cant find a dedicated nintendo network thread?)

new wii u owner here, and im wondering if i get to keep dr kawashima's brain training or if it's a timed thing? it just suddenly appeared on my dashboard.

Hmm... Wonderful 101 or Sonic Lost World. Can''t decide which free game to get :(

Wonderful 101 is simply a must have. I don't think any review will explain how insane that game is once you really get into it. It's a deep, action packed hilarious game. It truly is similar to Bayonetta, which is a very good thing. Personally I think it's a bit more complicated, but the reward you get for finally figuring everything out is pure awesomeness. The main thing that sold me on the game besides everyone saying how great the game is, was watching this guy's tutorials
