Thoughts on the new interns? They're definitely giving Ed a lot of attention :lol

well it is the second ep of the season though

Yeah, but they were presented as a pair.

Those were two very solid solid episodes. The second one was my personal favorite as Scrubs continues to have to ability to be silly and profound all at the same time.

The Nielsen joke at the end of the first episode was classic as well.

Ed trolls Lost message boards as a girl. :lol He's awesome.

It'd be so awesome if they actually made a viral user for that. Given the past stunts, I could totally see it :lol

Ed: I totally was gonna do it man, but I was on this Lost fansite last night, talking to this chick. About an hour in I realized it was this dude, messing with me.
J.D: I've been there.
Ed: Revenge time. I sign up for a new account, hotgirl99. I start flirting with this dude. I'm like oh hey I look just like Kate. And he's totally into it, right. Next thing you know, I got him to agree to a personal meetup here in the hospital, where he'll be holding a red balloon.
*shot of guy in lobby holding red balloon*
J.D: Wait a minute, you're hotgirl99?
Ed: Yeah.
*J.D backs out of room*

so. fucking. great.

Good episodes. I don't know if I like how they're trying to introduce so many new characters, though. Three interns plus a new chief of medicine is a bit much at one time.

They kept them in moderation though. It's obvious the show is still primarily about the Turk and JD bromance.

I thought both the episodes were pretty good, the second moreso because, have other have said, the downer Scrubs are always the best.

These episodes decided it for me: I wasn't just tiring of Scrubs' bad qualities, I was also tiring of its good ones.

Yes - these episodes were infinitely better than anything we got over the past few seasons, and the second episode in particular was a strong example of the show's ability to hug at the heartstrings while also tickling the funny bone. Glynn Turman was great in the guest role, the interactions between J.D. and Turk were strong, and I think the new interns are being really intelligently developed into less caricatures and more human beings.

But while it might all be good course correction from the last few seasons, isn't it all just exactly what the show has done before? The first episode features that exchange between J.D. and Dr. Cox about being tired, and I'll admit it: I'm tired of the same old storylines. Yes, it was still emotionally effective, but it felt like it was lifted right out of past storylines, and I saw nothing new or novel for the series here.

And while I can say that Scrubs is capable of being entertaining again, something I wouldn't have said before seeing these episodes, I'm not sure that anything here convinced me that the show can use this as a chance to revitalize itself. I think that, for me, returning to the foundation of years previous could be a problem nearly as big as its previous wackiness imbalance.

I wrote 1800 words (you can read my review here, if you wish) about the episodes that go into the tug-of-war between my enjoyment and my concern about the show wearing thin for me, so I won't go too much more into it here: either way, props to Lawrence for the successful reboot, now show me something new.

Just watched the episodes. Just awesome! I'm pretty happy to see the show get back to where it was in S4 or so. Not quite to S1/S2 but I doubt it'll ever get back to that level of writing.

Very happy with these episodes though. They're opening the season with a lot of ground to cover and it's nice to see that they're up to the challenge. I'd still like to make sure that they don't jsut blow off the fact that JD has a kid now, too. I'm worrying about that bit.

anyways, good job, guys. keep it up!

I still laugh my ass off at most Ted scenes.
"You have a smiley face button and a revolver."
"Yeahhhh. One is for sad days. The other is for really sad days."

also, janitor is awesome. wonder what'll happen :lol

Let's face it, the downers are always the best episodes.

This is true. I love how the first episode was full of good ol Scrubs humor, but I enjoyed the second episode much more. I feel like such a wuss saying that I enjoy the sad ones.

It looks like it'll be a good season, though. :D

First episode was kinda boring IMO, some of the jokes felt stale and it didn't seem like anything new was happening. Second episode, although it didn't really do anything new (a patient dies and reminds J.D. and Turk of how scary death is!), still felt honest and real.

I have to say, I kind of agree with Memles--After 7 years, I wonder if they can still do anything interesting and new with the characters and the hospital. The combination of J.D.'s pansy side, his and Turk's bromance, Elliot's relationship troubles, Dr. Cox's cantankerousness and incompetent interns is entertaining, but doesn't make the show as compelling as it used to be because we've seen it all before. I hope the writers have done some serious soul-searching and found some new places to take the characters. For a moment in the first episode, it looked like they might, when Dr. Cox confessed to J.D. that he was getting tired of being the hospital's fixer, but I don't know yet if they're going to follow up with that.

Also, I think I'm getting uptight and cranky in my old age (23). There were jokes about Ted almost committing suicide, an employee relentlessly sexually harassing others, a woman luring a low-self-esteem nerd home and headbutting him in the middle of sex, and Elliot winding up in a Girls Gone Wild-type video. I would have laughed at those in years past, but my immediate reaction to them tonight was that they were making fun of serious subjects that cause real harm to people.

Heh, I sound really negative about the show, even though I actually enjoyed the two episodes and will keep watching. Go figure.

Wow..

Just wow.. I don't know if it was me missing Scrubs a ton .. but the first episode was excellent.. and the second episode ranks up to be one of my all time favorites... It was ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING!

Scrubs is back! And I don't mean as in it's back from last season, I mean this is what I expected from season 5 onward. There was 2-3 years I didn't know what I was watching but it definitely wasn't the Scrubs I loved.

Long time watcher and one who felt that it should just hang it up and move on after this season. But if the rest of the season is as good as these two episodes I definitely won't be thinking that way. Laughed so hard at the stuffed JD :lol :lol

Here's a question... let's say scrubs does a whole lot better on ABC than it did on NBC. Would braff and company still leave after this season?

I'm with you. It was as though the episode was written specifically for me. You know, aside from being terminal with ischemic bowel.

My concern is that with all the face time Ed and Jo/Denise are getting that they are going to be a large focus of the series if it continues without JD and Carla as characters. Maybe they'll grow on me, but right now they feel forced and annoy me.

But, that's something to worry about after this season. More of that second episode and they can go to town with the new interns.

Oh, not the biggest fan of Courtney Cox as Dr. Maddox. What's with them giving her the same ability to hone in on a person's greatest insecurity that Dr. Clock had? Seems like lazy writing.

Braff, Lawrence and Judy Reyes are definitely gone. I hope they end the show with this season becaus elet's face it, if it continues on this level it will be a truly great ending to an amazing show.

Haven't watched Scrubs in a while but both episode made me remember why I like it. So many good jokes.

"now whenever he thinks of us he'll picture us splitting a beer, sexing up the ladies and shooting off flares. like men do" :lol

Also, how awful would it be to have the show transition from being told from JD's perspective and narrated by JD to being about...I guess Turk being alone and Dr. Cox being angry at Elliot and the new interns?

exactly my thoughts

This may have already been said, but weren't two of the new interns BOTH from Flight of the Conchords? I was staring at them both for an hour before I figured out where I've seen them from :lol

Those two episodes are easily one of my favorite episodes from scrubs, both funny and heart warming.

If this quality keeps up than scrubs will hopefully end with a bang.(assuming its going to end)

God, excellent start of the new season. The second episode really got to me. The part where they finally go "I'm terrified of death". "My only hope is that my last thought is a good one." "..You.. you call that deep? That's not deep! *laughs* I'm over here DYING and that's what you can come up with?"

For some reason, that got to me. The whole turn-over was what made ok to fantastic.

The take-out just ruined the mood, though :lol

And oh, god! Janitor. Nouuuuuuuuu.

Jordan and Cortney looked old! ;_;

I recorded both episodes just to see if they were going to be any good, and I just watched them. They were classic Scrubs episodes! So many good jokes.

The stuffed JD was awesome. Drinking from the other guy's cup was great. The new intern is awesome! The dude with the sayings that catch on so quickly. That was great. And the unsympathetic intern. She's hot too.

Enjoyed both episodes last night, and have to say that in a sense, they did get back to their roots some, but still moved forward as well. Great work so far, can't wait to see where they go next.

pff I didn't watch them because I expected it to suck, does ABC post there shows on line?

I checked Hulu and apparently one of the episodes is up on ABC, but it doesn't want to play nice with Firefox for some reason -_-

so i guess it's safe to say this will be his last season as well. I mean, he IS coming back for the rest of this season, right?

Just rewatched that first ep. He's still hilarious.

JD: "Hey, Janitor, want a cell phone?"
Janitor: *pushes keys, smells it.* No.

orrr

Cox: "You're fired."
Janitor: *holds up picture of kid* "What about my son?"
Cox: "That's my daughter."
Janitor: "Huh? Oh. UGHHHH" :lol
