Sennheiser HD 598 Cs on sale for $99 @ Amazon

Very good advice each and every time.
But FYI you didn't buy these. You bought the open backs. So that lack of bass(though obviously not missing as they do have it) is a part of their actual design.
 
Just got shipping notification as well. They arrive monday morning. Sweet. These could be one of the best purchases I have made recently or end up being a disappointment.

The tech sites did some study on this and concluded little to no changes to the drivers or general hardware. They suspect it is more due to our human selves getting used to the sound.

These have no bass too.

Wondering if I got a defect . Really just doesn't sound good .
 
Debating grabbing these. I have a pair of ATH M50X's. Is it a noticeable jump in quality?

I am using my M50X with a mod mic for my gaming headset. But I often listen to music out or upstairs and while a silly reason it's a hassle to go down and in Velcro the lines pull the mic off and use them standard now. I should have probably gone with the Vmoda cable to circumvent this.

Btw highly recommend getting an attachable mod mic ($42.49 w/mute, $36.49 w/out) or the Vmoda boom pro mic with something like this for an experience that far exceeds any headset I've used.

Vmoda is a single line conversion csble, the mod mic is a separate line for headphone and mic.
 
I bit the bullet. Hopefully the audio is at least as good as the ATH-M50s, but doesn't cause my ears to ache after an hour-plus of usage the way the M50s do.

Yes you must. If they have fully zero bass they are obviously defective.

Noticeable? Less so for you than others here depending on current set but they are good Senns.

It's fine not liking the sound the headphones produce but that's a little like buying a boat and then complaining because it floats, like a boat.
 
So these got delivered a few hours ago. Played about an hour of BF1, listened to a bit of music.

I had been using a pair of HyperX Cloud IIs for over a year. My initial reaction is that I like the Cloud II better pretty much across the board.

Comfort wise its really not close. The 598 Cs are not uncomfortable, but the Cloud II are insanely comfy and absolutely the more comfortable headphones.

Sound wise, I'll admit I'm probably very used to the Cloud IIs. My initial impression is that I like the Clouds better. The 598 Cs sound great, but they sound a bit flat in comparison. I'm not an audiophile and I realize my assessment is probably from a position of ignorance, I'm sure the 598 Cs are technically better and more "accurate", but the Cloud II sound way more "fun" if that makes sense.

Sound stage is slightly better on the 598 Cs, but not worlds apart.

My main issue is the comfort. As I said they aren't uncomfortable, but the Cloud IIs are just so damn comfy.

Honestly for those of you who own Clouds already I would probably recommend that you don't really need these. However again I've only used them for a few hours and my opinion might totally change.

Nah this is actually a somewhat fair assessment for them as a complete package. It is one reason why leaping isn't always the smartest bet in this price range.


The CloudX are stupidly comfortable. Like to the point of being a bit funny in an odd way.

Are you using the 598s strictly for gaming and not music playback?

Edit: I see you listened to a bit of music. I hope you have a dac/amp to get the most out of the headphones.

Ugh, nope. I'm using my open-back 598's and I can't get this to work sensibly at all.

My head is just too wide.

Haha thanks, I don't mean to come off like a noob, I know a fair amount about audio but I don't pretend to have a discerning ear with this stuff.

And you are right, I threw the Clouds back on and its almost like really strange how god damn comfy they are. I have no idea how they do it, but they pretty much float on your head.
 
Mine are arriving Sunday, looking forward to trying them. Currently I own HyperX Cloud and Sony H.ear so will be nice to compare them. I had the M50x before and I hated them, uncomfortable and sounded meh.
I'm no audiophile just an average joe.
 
I've had 598's (open) for a few years. Can highly recommend them, very comfortable and sound great in most cases. I am however looking at getting another pair of headphones with more bass.
 
Wow, this is tempting. I have their PC360 gaming headset with the mic and I love it. Theyre so comfortable.
Sucky part is that I never use the mic so I basically sacrificed sound quality in favor of a built in mic that I dont ever use.
 
Do you guys think there's any chance the open version will have a similar sale in the coming days? I've only ever used Koss Porta Pro headphones and I want to upgrade. I think the open HD 598s are better for me but the $50 difference at the moment makes these ones pretty tempting.
 
I'd like to pick these up but I just can't justify the expenditure, especially while my ATH-AD700's are still rocking strong. But then I keep coming back to how good a price this is.

Headphone addiction is real.

Well the HD598 is very comfortable to wear for long periods and its sound is less fatigue-ing compared to ATH.

Does the hypercloud x2 have a mute button on the mic itself or is it only on the USB connector? I'd mainly be using them on PS4, so I kinda need it on the mic.

I think I'm gonna return them.

EDIT: I actually like my 595 way more (mind you, my 595 has been broken in). The 595 may not have as good bass as these ones, but the sound is clearer and better quality.
 
Really want to get these however can anyone tell me whether they are suitable for use when going out and walking around?

Ya they are a great entry for good sound but as I said before don't offer a massive jump for some folks.

Open back headphones in general have better clarity and soundstage but less bass. It was probably silly to buy these anyway coming from a 595, they're in the same class and the 595 is essentially the same as the open back 598s.
