• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Sequels you're irrationally holding out hope for?

A proper sequel to NiGHTS... One that wouldn't suck like Journey of Dreams does.
A Pilotwiings with full Balance Board support.
Another Skies of Arcadia.

Mother 4
a Cubivore sequel
VTM:B2
A new Suikoden like 2 in quality.

edit:

Also Paper Mario 3. I did enjoy SPM but I liked TTYD a lot more. I feel like this should be inevitable. I hope I'm not wrong.

Dino Crisis 4 that plays like the second game
Shenmue 3
a new Panzer Dragoon or just remakes of the first three games
Jet Set Radio 3
Contra 5 by Wayforward
a new Starfox that doesn't add useless shit to the formula

Shenmue III (I'd probably setlle for a Shenmue I + II remake)

A proper sequel to Quake III Arena (MP only with bots included, not that Quake 4 shit)

Mirrors Edge 2

Perfect Dark 2

Earthworm Jim 4

Damn almost forgot about Conker!
Conker 2 please :D

Too Human 2 -- For! I want to see how the fucking trilogy ends assholes.

Bionic Commando 2 -- Still has the best swinging mechanics of any game yet. With a few tweaks, it could be an awesome sequel.

Chromehounds 2 -- Best mech game on the Xbox 360.

Shenmue III obviously wins this thread. I felt so let down when it was officially announced back in 2002 (approx) and then subsequently went dead on all channels. It's such a shame. As far as I recall Shenmue II's Xbox sales pretty much sealed the deal. Sega was in a difficult position since they pulled support for the DC and Shenmue II was destined to bomb so shifting it to the Xbox was the last-ditch desperate move that ultimately failed.

God I wish Sega would just make the game and get Suzuki on the case. The petition has 60,000 signatures for fuck's sake:

http://www [dot] petition online [dot] com/shen1986/

And for the record I was the one that made that petition as a 17 year old hardcore gamer who thought one man could change the game's fate.

The only cool thing about the petition was that I received word from Sega that Suzuki had actually heard about the petition and "understood that gamers wanted the game". That was a pretty cool moment. Sega just make the game.

A sequel to Dreamfall (The Longest Journey). Loved that game so much.
Loved The Longest Journey. Dreamfall was an abomination though. Its only grace was the story.
The gameplay was shit. An adventure game without actual puzzles, but with (broken) combat and stealth mechanics.

Jazz Jackrabbit 3
Jet Set Radio Futurer
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Maui Mallard 2
Psychonauts 2
Tonic Trouble 2 (or hell any random cameo/reference to it in a Rayman/Rabbid game)

Legend of Dragoon 2
On PSP plz.

Tales of Vesperia 2. Don't care if its a prequel or a sequel. ToV has been my favorite JRPG this generation.

Silent Hill 5... made by some version of Team Silent.

Eternal Darkness 2

Resident Evil Outbreak 3, can't believe it's not here considering how online has exploded since the last 2 games.

You did say irrational...

I miss the Dynamix made adventure games :-(

Gabriel Knight 4(by Jensen)
Leisure Suit Larry(by Al Lowe)
King's Quest (Roberta)
Quest for Glory (Coles)
Skies of Arcadia 2
Phantasy Star 5
A true direct sequel to Landstalker
A true direct sequel to Secret of Mana that feels like the snes ones.
Lufia 3
Lunar 3
Grandia that feels like the first one or even an English remake that does it justice
Faxandu
Legendary Axe 3( No polygons like the Bonk reboot, yic)
HD 2D traditional Final Fantasy line ala FF4-6
A zelda that has chapters like scrolling Zelda 2, overview like Link to the Past or Link's Awakening with mad sprites or concept art look while having no gimmicks, no blowing into a mic, drawing on your screen or waggling your arms. A true all buttons AAA gift to adult gamers.
2D Metriod
2D HD Castlevania that goes all out
MMORPG that went back to the basics for those that like a challenge, the art of pulling, fear of death, a believable world without cookie cutter mob placement , Z-axis and an actually community ala Everquest 1

Completely disagreed.

Sure, the stealth and combat weren't very good. Thankfully, they're only used in a handful of locations.

I actually prefer Dreamfall to The Longest Journey. But I'm the type that values atmosphere and dialogue over puzzles here. This doesn't go for every adventure game but when a game gets the story, dialogue and world so perfectly, I'm willing to overlook a lot.

Paper Mario 3. Please Nintendo, for the love of god! It was a million seller!

Don't they first need to make a Paper Mario 2?
Hmm...
  1. Paper Mario (Nintendo 64)
  2. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (GameCube)
  3. Super Paper Mario (Wii)
Or is this one of those cases of "that one didn't existed"?? :p

In my case...
P.N.03 II
....on Wii, thouse that seems to be just..impossible.

May i recommend reading a book? I too love adventure games, especially ones that tell good stories, but a game is a game and its main characteristic is gameplay. And when the gameplay sucks (or is missing as is the case with Dreamfall), a great story doesn't really save it. Not to mention i'm not a big fan of cliffhanger endings (you give me a great story without a conclusion? screw that).

Gradius. However, not like "V" Gradius, but more like "GAIDEN" Gradius. Hope shall never fade. Shoot it in the eye. Shoot it... in the eye.
