Serious Sam 4 Announced

Yes, enough with Egypt! I was disappointed they went back to that, probably in an attempt to get as far away as possible from SS2 splashy selection of stages. This can be the Second Encounter to SS3's First Encounter

SS1 and 2nd were probably some of the only FPS games I've enjoyed. SS2 was just terrible though. Awkward ass style and going away from horde after horde gameplay.

How was SS3?

I must also be the only one who has played The Next Encounter on GCN. It was okay.

GOTY, whatever year it drops.

I really hope it is Paris this time. I've seen that artwork awhile back. Goddamn, I'd really appreciate Europe as a setting.

Most excellent. I hope for this one they have more maps for the Survival mode. Serious Sam 3's survival maps brought some insane challenge and fun. It was a mighty fine accomplishment to break 10 minutes of survival. Hopefully the background of Paris in the concept art is indicative of a world theme where Sam is fighting in all kinds of famous places around the world.

I've only played the first 2 and that was because my friend was really into modding it. It was a fun time. Might pick 3 up just to support them and get 4 made.

That's an old pic. They showed it in the making of video that came with the deluxe edition of SS3. Wish they would show something new.

ITALY!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you not be excited they are getting away from all that desert crap?

I would love if this was a world tour of sorts where he has to jump from landmark to landmark around the world.

awwww :(

I saw that picture earlier and I'm guessing that it didn't register what it meant. So yeah, this is a pleasant surprise. This game got missed by a lot of people who I think would like it.

I didn't play the expansion... maybe I should get on that. Or maybe I should just wait for this.

Someone alert Tain and alt, Riposte

It's all true - only one person on GAF is allowed to have good taste™.

Is this one actually a SEQUEL this time?

SS3 was a prequel right? (takes place in the future before you go back in time, so technically a sequel AND a prequel)

Expansion is some b-sides material. I didn't regret it, as the formula is still there of course, but it didn't live up to the campaign in any way.

Humble Bundle already bought this morning despite already owning a large portion of Serious Sam games. SS3 was great and thus I can't wait to see what Croteam do in SS4.

Nice to see an implied change of setting. I hope some thought is given to the enemy counts this time around as the penultimate level of Serious Sam 3 was too serious over-the-top and consequently a chore to play through.

can't wait to play this. I remember experiencing the original tech demo and being blown away at what it could do and the mile long list of graphics options you could pick from.

I got SS3 on day 1 but for whatever reasons, never really spent much time playing it. I didn't like the tight corridor shooting I think.

I never checked up on the steam workshop for the game but while I was playing it, I was wanting no iron sights, no ammo reloading and always sprint to make it feel a bit more like SS1/2.

did they ever mod that stuff in?

You're just not serious enough to handle it Jase. ;)

Iron sights and reloading are only on the first couple guns, both of which are basically obsolete a few levels in.

The game's balanced around what sprinting gives and takes away, so changing that would break the challenge pretty hard.

It opens up significantly after a few levels.

Does this mean that Devolver isn't publishing this?
Excellent. SS3's enemies and weapons make for the very best battles in the genre, and its map layouts are, well, a lot more interesting than I expected from the series.

I want to see:
- A little more environmental variety while retaining the amount of destructable cover.
- Less ability to backtrack for items or advantageous positions.
- Save-anywhere removed or relegated to "cheat" status.
- more everything
I agree with your list but I'd add:
- More verticality in the level design.
- No invisible walls.
- More insanity and wierdness, eg. jump pads, tilting levels etc.
- Less time wasted on trying to ease the player into the game, the early levels in SS3 were useless.
- Permadeath mode.

More Serious Sam???

Can anyone explain to me what the Humble Bundle is?

http://www.humblebundle.com/weekly

Pay ($1 USD) for:
Serious Sam: The Random Encounter
Serious Sam Double D
Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack
Serious Sam Public Test

Pay more than $4.31 USD (at the time of this post) for the above, plus:
Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter
Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter
Serious Sam 2

Fuck yeah, very very happy to see this. Got the bundle even though I had all the games hah. Hoping to see more forest/jungle environments ala Sierra di Chiapas in Act 1 of the Second Encounter. Between Sam4, Wolfenstein and Dark Souls 2 its gonna be a good 12 months :D

Deluxe is nice since you also get the original SS 1/2 games as well.

Looking forward to it! I owned ss2 and played it a lot; they might need to have a slightly different angle to the game now since I'm not sure the cheap thrills will do it alone, but I'm looking forward to an Fps that doesn't go the pure cinematic route.

what a fuckin' bump

anyway, the idea was that Croteam were experimenting with putting puzzles in Serious Sam 4. They got so complex they figured, fuck it, lets just make it a separate game. That's what they've been doing this past year, its called the Talos Principle. Comes out this December on PC.

I assume SS4 dev will pick up after that, its a small-ass team from the middle of Crotia ya know

I asked them at PAX. Their game The Talos Principle originally started as a series of puzzles built into Serious Sam 4, and they opted to instead pull those out and create an entire game with them instead.

I played The Talos Principle at PAX and it was really good. So that's coming out in late 2014 instead of SS4.

You gave me a heart attack! :(

what a fuckin' bump
I thought opening a new topic for randomly asking news was not good.
Please forgive me.

Delaying Sam4 for a puzzle game? They can't be Serious...

I'm cool with a first person puzzle game.

I'll probably get it either way but it better have Rift support.
