Seth MacFarlane To Reboot The Flintstones

Seth McFarlane involved in anything animation wise is good move in my view. He gets a lot of hate butt Family Guy alone has provided me with more laughs than almost anything else on TV since Seinfeld ended.

eh, raunchy stuff sells, not completely his fault.

I've never seen that before, kind of uncanny hearing those voices coming out of those characters. Definitely getting a strong S1 Family Guy vibe there, I'd have enjoyed it if the final show kept that same art style.

And you're right about raunch selling, I'd just rather have more South Parks and less FGs. Heck, American Dad is great and it travels on a similar plane of OTT crudeness a lot of the time, it's just better written. :/

I can't see how this would interest today's kids. I mean, if you are young enough you will watch anything but the world of the Flinstones would need to be altered somehow to really appeal to the 6-10 crowd. Either that or outstanding writing. I predict a lot of Water Buffalo Lodge and Great Gazoo episodes.
Who said this would be for the 6-10 crowd? The original Flintstones was a primetime show made to appeal to everyone.

Yeah, I remember liking that Larry and Steve Cartoon Cartoon short he did, and it wasn't raunchy at all. Not like he can't do it.
Maybe, but you think Fox has any interest in a show like that? Every cartoon they try nowadays is on the adult and raunchy side.

I dunno, while I'm not not a big fan of the Flintstones (I did like the cartoon when I was younger), I don't really like any of Seth's stuff either.

Man, this is gonna be worse than that Flintstones-Jetsons-crossover.

Oh man, alot of those Hanna Barbara crossover cartoons were pretty bad.

I thought I couldn't hate FOX anymore than I did already. But now they go and give that asshole another show, and now he gets to simultaneously ruin childhoods and more people's sense of humor. Awesome.

He and his writing team don't have enough good ideas to fill one show, let alone four. And great comedies have little to do with the original premise, so creating yet another show is not going to help him regain his fastball. If these people still have funny ideas, I'd like to see them start using them on Family Guy because the last episode I saw was ass.

I think Seth MacFarlane is a very funny guy, but he has clearly either stopped caring or overextended himself. There's no shame in that; just cut down on the crap and focus yourself on something you care about.

I put this together as soon as he made AD. Same exact show, different circumstances.
Isn't Seth MacFarlane part of a bigger group of writers who do this though? I mean... put According to Jim, King of Queens and Everybody Loves Raymond next to each other... the jokes are so interchangeable, it's scary. And don't get me started on Friends, I swear they re-used their own jokes.

Came in expecting some SNL-esque skit like "Hey, wouldn't it be funny/stupid/wrong if Seth Macfarlane actually did the Flintstones?", not a Deadline scoop.

:/

People seriously care about the Flintstones?

As for Hannah-Barbera, they didn't really do anything of mention outside of the Golden Era of Cartoons while they were with MGM. Actually Top Cat was kind of an interesting character but his show was still crap. It was all crap really, random animals with one or two articles of clothing doing an incredibly over the top immitation of a long since relevant celebrity, good only for nostalgia or an "aha, that thing existed moment!" (basically the cutawaygags on Family Guy). And then you have stuff like Scooby Doo or Johnny Quest or Spaceghost which only in the past 20 years or so have had anything decent done of them (how many people had even heard of Sealab until Adult Swim redid the show?).

He puts his name on these shows, develops them, does the voices, and everything. It's not the same as "generic bad sitcom #5999". I would be like the creators of CSI doing 5 of those shows....oh wait.

Please, put any sitcom next to each other and be general enough with them and you'll find tons of similarities. Hell, look no further than Hann-barbera who basically copy and pasted the Flinstones and Jetsons except instead of jokes about rocks you had jokes about buttons (not to mention all those shitty teenager mystery club shows they had a hardon for after Scooby Doos initial success).

30 years ago? That was about the last time I saw The Flintstones on TV. Maybe some cartoon channel that specializes in classic stuff?
Boomerang!I watched it there when it was still affiliated with Cartoon Network.

Why? Judging by the four identical copies of Family Guy he has made I was under the impression that those kinds of shows were all he could make.
While the underlaying foundation of the shows are the built on the same principles of characters the shows are very different.

What makes Seth an asshole?

Love American Dad! Family Guy is okay if there's nothing else on. Cleveland can suck my ass. I wish this guy would stop making shows.
I'm not sure if you have been watching Cleveland Show lately but its pretty awesome.

Seriously, I can't be the only one looking forward to this.

OK, let's see:

Lovable Idiot = Fred
Hot Wife = Wilma
Loser Son (in law?) = Bam Bam
Daughter = Pebbles
Comically-sized Sadist = Barney
Non-human Best Friend = Dino

Wow...

Cartoon Network used to fill their airtime with old Hannah-Barbera shows during the early 90's back before they had a large stable of their own original content of which a large portion was the Flinstones.

Pretty sure they still show a Flinstones special every Christmas as well, the one where Fred and Barney take over for Santa Claus.

That must be it then, I remember watching Scoobidoo and the Jetsons too.

Family Guy isn't funny in any of its incarnations and people need to stop green lighting more shows for the one dimensional "talent" known as Seth MacFarlane.

He's obviously not one dimensional if he writes, does voices, and animates.

You also forget to mention the work he did on jhonny bravo, cow and chicken, and Dexters Laboratory. (when he worked for hanna barbera...)

Hanna Barbera cartoons are some of the most boring shit ever. I barely liked them as a kid and can't stand them these days. Whatever Seth does to it can't make it any worse.

Have you ever actually seen The Flintstones?

(unless you're suggesting this is what he'd do to The Flintstones, in which case, :lol and all that)

Even as a kid I thought Flintstones was pretty bad and unfun (strangely enough I enjoyed the Flintstones movie with John Goodman), but having McFarlane reboot this.. I don't know. I like Family Guy, but.. yeah, no

Swap Barney for The Great Gazoo as the comically-sized sadist.

Barney is only a pint-sized sadist on the Fruit Pebbles commercials. Always stealing the Fruity Pebbles, what a douche. :)

Why doesn't Seth MacFarlane just skip the copy and go straight to the source, and do a cartoon based on the Honeymooners?
