Shadow of the Eternals Kickstarter Relaunched

Not giving a dime to Dyack & crew and I hope it gets funded so I can mock the final product.

Of course, I liked Eternal Darkness, and I'll be happy to buy it if it's somehow a good game. But does anybody really expect it to be good after Silicon Knights was unable to produce a good game after ED and MGS?

I think it is very sneaky of them to say that there will be a PS4 version if they have enough but not saying how much more they need. Many people will back this up with the hope of getting a PS4 version but I'm sure they have no intention of making a PS4 version.

Sure, they probably don't want to put that game on as many platforms as they can because they love being sneaky and don't care about getting more money from potential customers with an easy port. They just looooove to be evil.

Evil? No one used that word and there is no need to use hyperboles. But I wouldn't put it past some people to use that tactic to get more money. Why else would they not make an estimate of porting the game over?

They have always maintained that the PS4 game is a stretch goal at best and would only be worked on after the PC and WiiU games are completed. They only even mentioned the PS4 because so many people have been asking for it, if folks want it its in their best interest to help surpass the funding limit so they have the money to do it.

I've never fund a game (with the expection of this one, first tentative).
if I contribute with the 20 bucks required, what does happen if the game reaches its goal?
Do I have to pay entirely for it once released, as anyone else that didn't fund the game?
sorry for the stupid question

In this case, and in most of then, you get the full game.

You could read the kickstarter page and see that 20 is the reward tier that gets you a download of the game.

The game uses CryEngine and PS4 allows for self-publishing -- they will also self-publish on Wii U and PC. Essentially the main cost for a PS4 port would be buying the SDK.

I'm not sure if I will chip in yet, but I may. I would want a physical copy for Wii U to have next to Eternal Darkness though.

Over 4000 backers now and at $164,911. I wonder if they plan on trying to get various interviews with gaming sites in order to bring more attention to the game and the kickstarter campaign.

Backed this (again) at the $20 level. Would really like to see this team get a chance to show gamers what they can/cannot do. Plus, ED is one of my favorite games.

I remember one of the Precusor dudes has a GAF account. He should be posting in here.
No, not Dyack.

Why don't you believe Dyack when he says Precursor and SK are not the same? Dyack doesn't run the company he's just a salaried creative now.

They lowered the goal because they have a new vision for the game and they received external funding and pumped some of their own money into it as well.

The game is no longer episodic and is now a single game project which I think probably freed up some money in their budget that they can put to better use.

I'm curious why people actually believe they received significant external funding when they were unable to find any prior to their last Kickstarter. The failure of that Kickstarter would have only made investors more leery about what sort of demand existed for the game.

I'm also curious why people are willing to believe that $750k will be enough money to make the game they are promising period, but especially when their original Kickstarter asked for more money when it was using a business model more capable of raising additional funds (KS for the shorter episode 1, release it, use profits to fund episode 2).

If this actually gets funded I fully expect it to result in the same drama SK has always been famous for (delays, needing more money to finish a project, more delays) only this time the publisher will be consumers.

The people behind this KS may actually have good intentions or believe they can get this KS done on time for $750k but you're still crazy if you drink their koolaid and invest your money in it.

Trending at $10-11K per day right now. Even if the last three days of funding are as good as the first three, if this keeps up they will end up $200K+ short of their goal (if my crummy math is correct).

Because they are using SK equipment and SK staff. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Right, it's not gonna make it at this rate.

Shiggy oh you of little faith. ;)

Kickstarter math is a bit vague. I think it's chances look a lot better.

How are they not the same? The owners and management are all SK guys. This is the new company they founded after they ran their old company into the ground.

Dyack doesn't run the company he's just a salaried creative now.

He is a co-founder of Precursor Games, so he owns at least part of the company. That makes him way more than a salaried creative, no matter what his official title says or how Precursor tries to spin it.

Its amazing how little traction this has gained in Pc sites, it might have to with the fact its a relaunch but they really need to do something to capture the press.

As a backer of this, and a fan of Eternal Darkness, I am making a video series about the original game, hyping up this project a bit, generally trying to be informative and interesting.

Part 1 is all about Lovecraftian horror in games, movies, and TV. Check it out.

The video log update #3 for the Kickstarter is up. Paul Caporicci discusses Combat Systems.

I am gratified to see legs being targetted in the vid, definitely an omission from Eternal Darkness that should be corrected.

On the forum and creative side they announced an enemy creation initiative. I was too late (swamped with work) to really participate in the Elder creation but there were some really cool submissions.

I think it's mostly because neither the developer nor the title has a great PC history. One or the other is usually true for all the really big kickstarter successes.

When you burn that many bridges, don't expect to gain traction.

I'll watch this when I get a chance to sit down for a bit. I liked the first few minutes.

Hey thank you. The first 5 mins. is talking head intro, it improves after that (less of me is visible).

Tracking better than before but still doesn't look like it's going to make it. A shame because it looks like a genuinely interesting game.

Still might be a project with a lot of fence-sitters and a surprising late-game push.

I have to stay positive, so that I can keep pushing for it, because this is one of those edge cases where this kind of effort from their backers and fans could really make the difference.

Welp, the only reason I'd back this is for David Hayter to get work, and he doesn't need it.

Good luck to them. Although I like the guy, Dyack's active involvement looks to have probably killed the project.

It really has dropped dead donation wise, someone must have one of those graphs that you see for other kickstarters? $24k in the past 4 days anyway.

It will get backed or it won't. Best things backers can do is act like it won't unless they let enough people know about it, which is probably the actual truth of the matter.

In a related matter, it seems Nintendo has re-registered the Eternal Darkness trademark, adding language to cover downloadable software.

Like the article says, that could mean anything, but it's interesting news.

Virtual Gamecube releases on the WiiU would be good for all involved, but it would be extra great for this project if more people got to sample Eternal Darkness. It's getting kind of expensive to pick up used.

Too bad it seems to be stuck again. I can't pledge, but I would have checked out the final game. Even if it was shit, at least one would have taken the chance for a new ED - the original wouldn't be devalued imo.

I really went in this time, $250 for the book. It's kind of a lot for me. My wife was shocked, but understanding. But hey if I get this book man that's going to be a pretty cool thing to have, plus the soundtrack, and the game. That's all that really matters to me.

Stranger things have happened. Other people's long-shot nostalgia projects got backed. All I can do is try to evangelize a bit, put out something hopefully interesting and entertaining in its own right, like the video I made and linked. What else can I do? That was a lot of effort!

Yeah, woulda been nice but this isn't looking too good. If someone redid the graph from several posts back, the high end even would probably fall a bit short.

We'll see what they do to try to get the word out.

Well they got almost a $5k bump right after the latest update, so that's a plus.

Same for me.

In the Kickstarter comments they stated they would very much like to have one, but there's too much to work out with Nintendo to add it as a promise yet.

I'm jazzed because I get the Collector's Edition thrown in on the tier I had already pledged for.

$9k since today's update. People like physical copies of things. But I knew that already.

Did they say if they're looking into during the campaign or is this something, if the kickstarter is successful, we'd hear about later on?
