Shadow of War Hype Level?

Meh.

Pretty much sums up my feelings. It just looks like it's gotten BIGGER to me, but I guess since I haven't gotten a chance to really see too much... it doesn't really look too much better.

I loved Shadow of Mordor and was looking forward to its sequel. I seldom buy games at launch nowadays, but Shadow of War had a real shot at it. Unfortunately I wasn't too impressed with the fortress reveal, and the near exclusive early marketing focus on them really soured me to the game. Then microtransactions came along. That was enough to push me over the edge to simply stop caring.

That last paragraph was what I initially came here to say, but I decided to be more thorough, so I went looking for more updated info. Surprisingly, now that I know more than just the fortresses, I like the overall basic gameplay. I can honestly say I am back to wanting to play again...except for the microtransactions.

The devs have promised that the game has been balanced without them in mind, but I can't accept that on face value. I'll have to wait until both professional and user reviews come in to see how they really turned out. If they turn out well, then the game is back on my todo list. However, at the point I'll likely wait until sale before I pick it up.

This image sums it up for me.

the loot boxes, the dlc BS, and all the negative press surrounding the game, killed all excitement I had for the game.

Did anyone actually read my OP?

Ithilien, motherfuckers!

Oh well. Guess I'll have to spam the Screenshot thread with shots of my saunters through the verdant valley of the Anduin.

Zero hype here.

Imagine if we can actually scale the sides of Mount Doom and look down into Sammath Naur, the Cracks of Doom. Imagine if we can actually traverse Cirith Ungol and wander the fair fields of Ithilien. Hell, even the Dead Marshes are on the map. What treasures await of there?

Nope, still the same.

First was an insanely mediocre romp that cruised by through sheer apathy in game of the year lists, but this year doesn't suck ass so I see no reason to actually play it

It was a very good OP to be fair. Very well written.
I just wish it had been for a different game.

I'm still pretty hyped. Haven't seen much of this game other than the first long gameplay video, is there any customization to Talion's appearance? It was one of my main gripes with SoM that you couldn't add/change anything except for entire skins, but it's okay if not.

Yeah, there is gear for him now.

My brother seems to be kinda looking forward to it. So I'll probably just barrow his copy if he gets it.
All the MT bollocks and the combat still looking way too easy kinda put in on the wait for a deep sale pile for me.

I'll be day one unless it just gets savaged by reviewers. An open world epic warfare rpg loot game? It'll take a lot more than optional loot boxes to pull me away from that shit.

My suspicion is that the stronghold takeovers will end up being repetitive and lose their charm very quickly

Also the loot box stuff has cratered any remaining interest I had in the game.

I was hyped when it was announced, and then literally every subsequent trailer and announcement, loot crates, sexy Shelob, hamfisted attempts at humor have decreased my hype to the point where I will wait for a steep, steep sale.

-1. If I wanted a game like this I'd buy AC Origins which is looking way more interesting this year than some game trying to pretend it's set in ME with its boring brown looks that makes no use of its source material instead trying to pass some random garbage story that would never happen in this universe, yeah I don't know why they even do this, as an original brand it could do better because I can't imagine you like LotR and this game would interest you instead of putting you off. First game was so boring too I don't know what people see in this series.

I've just put in a request to refund my pre-order. I hadn't heard about the loot boxes situation and I don't play purchased games with them in.
Shame as I adored the first game.

I was hyped until I reinstalled Shadow of Mordor yesterday (ps4) and had forgotten just how close the camera, and how low the FOV is. It felt genuinely awful, and I'm struggling to remember completing it the first time.

I really enjoyed the first game, and I'm definitely going to check out Shadow of War eventually (assuming the consensus is that it turned out well). But there are just too many other games coming later in the year that I'm more excited about playing, in addition to games that are already out that I haven't played yet which I am also more excited about playing.

It was easier to make time for a big open-world game like Shadow of Mordor in a year where there weren't a ton of other great games. But this year, it's gotten lost in the shuffle for me personally.

The first one was pretty average. This one looks like more of the same in a year stacked with releases.
Shadow of Mordor got a pass because there was fuck all out at the time.

zero, I stupidly bought the first game for $60 while drunk one night looking for something to playa nd it got good reviews. I played it for like 2 hours and didn't really like it, never played it again.

The map is impressive but at the same time, Mordor is one of the least interesting parts of Middle-earth to me, so I struggle to care about it.

I'm sure Shadow of War will sell well but it always seemed like such an unambitious sequel to me, where they're just doubling down on the original game, instead of taking what worked from that game, looking at what's popular in other open world games this gen and doing something new and interesting with it. As is, it actually annoys me that they've got their hands on a fascinating world with such rich history and THIS is what they're doing with it. So much wasted potential.

I liked the first one even if I felt like it did get a little too repetitive after a while. I’ll probably grab this one if gameplay impressions are positive. The loot boxes... I don’t know I really just don’t care. As far as I understand they’re optional.

No interest.

The game will likely end up selling way less than Shadow of Mordor too.

That has been the trend for the past 1-2 years with sequels.

Loot boxes and the dlc plans have mostly killed my excitement for this. I really liked the first game so I'll probably pick up it when they release the GOTY edition with all dlc included. We'll see.

Hell, I didn’t even finish the first one. I got like 2/3 through, realized I hadn’t really enjoyed much of what I’d played to that point, asked myself why the hell I was continuing, and chose to quit.

I’ve seen a few things in this one that look neat but they’ve been buried by a mountain of rank orc shite thanks to, well, everything surrounding the game.

Maybe a year or so from now, with a really good Steam sale, I’ll give it a shot. Or if reviews hit and people are literally climaxing because it’s sooooooo great...nah, still a maybe.

I liked the first one, despite the flaws, and was looking forward to the sequel. The loot box nonsense killed my hype dead, though, and now I'm not going to bother.

A Steam sale down the line, maybe.

Very minimal for me.

I like recruiting members for my army . i liked it in so many game from suikoden , white knight chronicles to more recent ones.
Yet when you ask more money , i'm quite turned off .

My backlog is full , so that kind of behavior is the justification i need to cross some titles from my buying list.
