Really cool little game, though it's a little too hectic for a console FPS for me. If I had Vista, I'd be interested in this game.

That is what I was worried about at first, but the controls are really tight. I'm not having issues like I have with other fast paced console shooters.

This demo is pretty fun, but the damn controls and mechanics are hard as ****ing hell to wrap my brain around. It's fine at first when everybody just has pistols, but by round 6 everything is going ****ing nuts. I hate that I have to have SmartLink taking up a spot in my triggers in order to use it. I should be able to turn it on/off in the cast-menu. I suppose it's not that way because then SmartLink would be way too powerful. Making it take up an inventory spot sorta makes sense like that, but dammit I wish I didn'to have it equipped. It should be passive.
People can also easily find out where you are, which is a nice touch. I was wondering why most people were 'shooting lasers' out of their eyes for a couple of meters and then I realised it was a part of SmartLink.

Definitely ****s you when you're the only one left and trying to kill your opponents the sneaky way.

yeah i use smartlink every time too, word to my 100 Kills With Smartlink Active achievement. I sneak up on people all the time too, just have to look down a bit until you get close enough to shoot

I just played the demo and I can't help but feel I've done this a million times with Counter Strike's Warcraft 3 mod. Sorry, won't even rent it.

Wow...this game is actually pretty....awesome! Yeah, the graphics aren't GoW-esque, and neither are the animations, but, from the demo, I think it's a solid game. I love combos so much. One problem I've been having though, is that I've been randomly losing connection on every 3 matches I play. It's really getting annoying by now, and I've have to leave many a party because of it(Sorry Beamber =( ). Is this a common problem? Is it that something that is fixed in the real game, or am I screwed; because this is a pretty huge dealbreaker if this is gonna happen every third time I go into a match.....

Or you know, hit the button you have smartlink assigned to and shut it off until you need it. I cannot believe how few people actually do this.

yeah i didn't even know if that worked or not.. never even tried. thanks alot :D

slavik i've talked to people that were on vista via voice chat...

Man, what crack are the reviewers smoking? Most reviews so far have been negative and now the review from one of Sweden's biggest newspapers just dropped and it whines about "poor weapon balancing"? Poor weapon balancing?! Did he even pop the disc into the machine?

Uh, yeah, me too. In fact, I got my 100 Vista kills achievement ("My platform is superior" or whatever) tonight and I got all the trashtalking in against said Vista players between each match. Their sound quality isn't as good as 360 players, but we can chat perfectly fine.

Perhaps it's because the game is so fresh, but given the choice, I'd actually rather play this and not Halo 3 at the moment.

I really like the gameplay ideas. They're probably nothing new. But they are to me and I'm enjoying the experience.

Just wish it was $40.

I'll probably cave and buy it.

I played the demo once this morning before work, and was very sad when my time ran out. :(

Edit: I thought this was the Pac-Man thread. I have not yet played the demo of this game. :lol

Downloaded the demo. Pretty nifty game; I really like the magic element to the FPS formula. It's not worth $60 to me, but the demo is a nice diversion.

Yeah I don't like the healing crap either. But besides that it's pretty awesome. Too bad nobody was on to play with though.

Played the demo. Pretty cool little game but not worth $60...I'd get it for $30 right now and only because it's a semi competent substitution for CounterStrike on my 360...I would probably not buy it at all on PC

I've been playing the demo all night and I have mixed feelings about this game. It's fun to play, but it feels like I am playing a Half-Life 2 mod. It's something I would definitely not spend $60 for, so I think I'm waiting till it hits the bargain bin or platinum hits.

Nobody likes to Heal

Reminds me of my old WOW Guild. Nobody rolled Priest.
I've practically been the rezer/healer all night. It's frustrating because no one on my team does it.

I didn't really know what to expect from this game. I was hugely surprised when I went through the training mode - I really like the magic and tech ideas. I then played a few bot games and my opinion lowered somewhat, but I still had high hopes. After taking it online... I'm not nearly as interested as before.

The rifle and the shotgun are both useless weapons. The sniper and katana are pretty decent but too situational. The only weapon that seems to be worth getting is the SMG. Nobody seems to bother with Resurrect online either, which means that when you die you end up sitting there doing nothing for the next 5 minutes.

Oh and let's not even get started on the advantage of being on the assault team. It's virtually impossible to win if you're defending the artifact purely because you can't manually reset its location. What a retarded idea. It means that one guy will sneak by with the artifact while everyone else is killing each other. In the unlikely event that he's killed before he reaches the delivery point, all it takes is another ally to rush in, grab the flag and sprint a few meters to hit the point and win the game.

Yeah, I think the gunplay is weak and I think the attacking team has a huge advantage. Also, I thought the level was pretty lame.

But I like it.

I was in the beta for a long time - I'd suggest playing it a bit more (and preferrably with friends or at least experienced players). The rifle is probably one of the most useful weapons in the game, but I usually roll with shotty + SMG. As for teammates not rezzing, I'm going to assume thats due to the huge influx of new players in the demo. Once people figure out the gameplay mechanics and start realizing that you need to play as a team to win you'll see more of it.

I don't personally believe its worth $60 as is, I still think its a beautifully designed (gameplay wise, at least) and a shame that it'll never reach the success it deserves (mainly due to the pricetag )

Just tried the demo, and I thought it was pretty fun - it actually surprised me how much fun it was. Regarding the healing, it seemed like everyone carried resurrect and would actually use it (including me), but that may have just been an isolated incident, and may have something to do with everyone yelling at each other to get resurrect.

Any way, I won't be buying it since I still don't think its worth 60$, and when it came to picking either Forza 2 or Shadowrun, I settled with Forza 2.

:lol :lol :lol

This game is embarrassingly bad in almost every department.

The recticle especially is the worst. Will I get a headshot? Who knows, the cross-hair is 6 times bigger than the guy's head! Maybe if the weapons and movement didn't handle like shit then I might be mildly interested in magic/tech stuff.

Feels like I'm playing Counter-Strike for Babies.

Man, the bots are crazy with the rez spamming.

Sometimes when you kill someone after they have been rezzed, they split into chunks and leave no body, but other times they just die. What are the rules behind that?

Also it seems to vary how much punishment it takes to destroy a corpse. What's going on with that?

And what tutorials are not in the demo?

It's called Karma. If your team is kicking the other teams ass, your team's bodies will be cleared quickly. If your team is getting their asses handed to them, they will be hard to clear and have more chanced to be rezzed.

This game sucks for about the first 5 hours...

Having put about 50+ hours into it so far.. it rocks.

Only problem is - too many newbs right now. Not having rez after 5 rounds is unacceptable.
That and I usually go 12-3 while others go 1-4.. oh well.

I'm surprised anyone would say this game is crap.

I just downloaded the demo and played it for about 3 hours. Had a good team right off the start - even though a lot of us hadn't played it before, we picked it up very quickly.

Fun game, controls are good, the magic and tech are fun. Doesn't feel like a Half Life mod to me, and well... I put a way higher value on multiplayer games than single player games, so I like it a lot. I might have played the Halo 2 single player game for a total of 20 hours (beat the game a couple times on different difficulties) but probably put around 400 hours into the multiplayer.

I do think that for a multiplayer game there should be more game modes than just capture the flag and deathmatch. A bomb arming game type would fit right in (like Assault in Halo) as would an escort game type (like VIP on counter-strike).

The core gameplay is great, but they needed the time to expand the game itself with more content. Regardless, I'm buying it.

If you kill someone for the first time they will leave a body (that can be rezzed). If someone dies again after being rezzed they will disappear. Hence, you can only be rezzed once (there are some exceptions to this, though pretty rare).

I like that it takes a bunch of punishment to clear a corpse, that way you can't just shoot 3-4 shots with a pistol to clear a body. Anyway, the best way to clear a corpse is with a SMG up close.

And I believe the first three training chapters (tutorials) are included in the demo, though I only saw this on the Shadowrun Demo FAQ on the official Shadowrun forums, YMMV.

Everything that people are calling "useless" i've seen used very effectively by SOMEONE. This game is all about your own styles.

Zam - I clear with katana, saved ammo and clears pretty quickly (unless you're troll) :)

The katana takes forever to clear which I find real odd since it dishes a lot more damage to real bodies, the SMG just takes one clip. Even the shotgun is terrible at clearing..

Just played a bunch of matches, and it utterly sucks if the skill level between the two teams is uneven. You can basically never recover, and at most might get in one lucky score. I tried to stick around as long as possible, but really it reached the point where there was no chance of coming close, so why bother? It's fun for now, but without custom map options and more play modes, I can't imagine there being a sustained interest in it.

You mean like every other online shooter out there?

Since you say it in that way, I'm assuming you have the 360 version. Those people are paying subscribers... And there's no way in hell I'm willing to pay a subscription fee for voice chat and cross-platform play.

Not that it really would matter if they did include it... Even if my only complaint was that it is vista-only, that would be a big enough issue that I wouldn't be buying it. After that point, it's really pointless to complain further, but there's a half a dozen other issues I have with the game that are just as significant and I felt like mentioning a few. An included voice chat function for all players would reduce that six game-killing issues to only five.

How is that different from ANY multiplayer shooter ever? If one team is awesome and the other isn't, well gee guess what the awesome team wins. Hell no need to limit it to shooters, name a multiplayer game that isn't this way? Mario Party the kind of random bullshit? That'd be about it.

I don't remember every other shooter going for 5+ rounds against the same team. I certainly don't remember one that sticks you on the capture or defend side for every round. I don't play Counterstrike so I don't know how that is, but the odds are weighed against the loser more heavily in Shadowrun than any other FPS I've ever played.

Aurora said:

No, they are not. The shotgun is the most powerful weapon in the game, you just have to not bunnyhop around like a psycho (to get the reticule to steady) or whatever to use it. Same for the rifle, which is even more demanding (you basically have to stop and stand still to get good shots in).

Aurora said:

People must be playing strangely on the demo or something. In the full game with teams who know what they're doing (which they surprisingly enough do most of the time), defense is far superior. If everybody's running around thinking it's a deathmatch, of course someone's going to sneak past and steal the artifact.

Aurora said:

Yeah, um, like I just said...stop playing it like a deathmatch and keep an eye on your HQ.

Ding ding ding ding! People in the demo don't really understand the whole concept of being a team or completing objectives. I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick this game up today so I can play with people who actually try to play the game right.

It's kind of hard to miss. If the enemy grabs the artifact the game will point out where you should go to keep them from scoring. Throw up some strangle to slow them down and brace for the worst.

Course it helps to have a competent team, which you probably won't have much luck with in the demo.

In just the few hours I've played I've seen matches go both ways. Before I knew it some matches would go from 5-0 to 6-5 in a blink. A good round at times can really boost morale and push people to step up their game, thus leading to tables being turned constantly.

Those bold points arent true...Ive won multiple games with my teams as defenders you just have to have a great tema that balances all the powers and skills of the races...thats the key...also the teams I were on decided who would be a resurrecter or a healer, or a summoner...things like this is what makes the game interesting...you dont lay there for 5 minutes after death if your team is competent

I dont want to support Microsofts 60 dollar price tag on a game that should have been released at 39.99 but this game is getting much undeserved bad rap...I havent played the demo but I put in a good 6-7 hours on the actuall game and I had a blast, buy it I might buy it just to add one sale...sad I know. This game is all about teamwork straight and simple.

True...it just makes me very angry that this game is 60 dollars....its just a bad price for content. A great game with really great gameplay that is going to be hindered by its price. I hope this game takes off, even if its slowly.
