"Shadowrun will be the greatest awesome I'M COVERED IN...500 - Internal Server Error"

After downloading the demo and playing it for a few hours... Eh, feels like a good halflife mod to me. Sure it was fun for a while but it's not worth the money imo.

....so played so more of the demo....the CONTROLS ARE ****ING FANTASTIC!
Seriously, perfect deadzone, analog response, range....this is how you tweak an fps on a gamepad (I know it had help from the halo devs or something like that)....perfection is what this is!

shooting machanics....eh, hit or miss so far....guess I just hate how inaccurate weapons can get. SMG in particular, is the weakest of the bunch and pretty much the most inaccurate. Standing in place to gain accurary ala Counterstrike, doesn't help really at all either because the reticule resizes too damn slow! Thus this makes "short controlled burst" not really a necissity and just merely an option in a way....

Magic and Techs are great though and don't really have any complaints at this point...

the visuals/art direction....oh boy. Now the game looks great on a technical level to be sure, I.E solid framerate, lots of effects, smooth, etc.
Its just that there is some inconsistancy with the presentation...like maybe one day the devs had their coffee and were totally into it, and alot of the days they just weren't

and the latter animation takes me back to 1997...and not in a good way =/

I'm still very much impressed by this one though and will probably pick it up 3rd Party Amazon for $40

...oh and I think the whole arguement about this being the equivelant of a HL mod is a bit irrelivant, since this is built for the console market (primarily) and the majority of consoles FPS don't receive this attempt at depth....

I've hated on this game since day one, but after playing the demo I kinda like it. It's actually fun, and pretty deep. I wouldn't pay full price for it, but if they offer lots of DLC in the future I could see this being a long lasting online title.

You and me both.

I've even seen entire Elf teams, which is downright sickening.

Me three.. although oddly i don't have the Elfsbane achievement yet. I usually avoid them in a firefight because i feel they're too easy for my dwarf to kill. I go for trolls, for the team :D

I'v been playing the game for an hour or two everynight since release and I'm still having a blast. I tend to play only human, no essence reduction from tech is great and so is the bonus money. Enhanced vision is the only tech/magic that I always get the other two are usually situational. I do recommend keeping grenades mapped for the beggining of every round, once I use them I switch the spot to something else. The Rifle is probably in my opinion the most difficult weapon to use (I don't count the rocket launcher, its useless :P ) but I'm starting to get the hang of it. I'll usually use it mostly at the start of the match to pick enemies off and then I'll switch to the SMG

After a few hours every night of playing it since the 360 version came out, I have to say this: This game is GREAT when you have a competent team where people know what they're doing, but if you don't, it gets pretty frustrating.

Maybe I've been lucky with finding good matches, but I'm rezed at least 30% of the time when I go down. Rez is usually the first magic that I buy, and I'm usually not the only healer on the team.

There was only one time I got annoyed and it was from some guy who kept whining, "OMG, Rez me. NakedSushi, get over here and Rez me, please come. Shit, come over here and Rez me!" everytime he died even if I was nowhere near his corpse.

Eh, my mileage varies. I play Dwarf with SMG every game. At any distance there's a HUGE difference between short bursts and full auto. For me, at least, it's the difference between getting the kill and not getting it. When I get excited and hammer on the trigger, I get wasted. When I stay calm and just pump the trigger, opponents go down.

That said, the pistol is very underrated. I start every match with the pistol and usually always manage to take down one or two with it. It's even pretty effective against Trolls.

i occasionally find i do better with the pistol than i do with other weapons. and as for all the goddamn elves knocking around, i play as a dwarf to try and inject a bit of variety into the game. i think i've enjoyed this more than anything else i've played online with the 360 so far.

I just bought this a bit ago. For some reason I was playing a solo match by myself against bots and it said "Connection lost to server." Not sure about that but I'm going to let it slide because this game is so freaking amazing. Playing as a dwarf is just hilarious and I LOVE having all the essence to revive whoever I want. Great game! If any of you want to play with me, send me a friend request. I'll probably always pick the dwarf and I'll always purchase resurrect first, regardless of race.

I played this game until 7:30am today. hehe

I guess I'm addicted. Personally, I love playing as a troll, although those frickin' elves get so annoying with their swords. I find that playing as a stealthy troll is the best way for me. They are pretty good at flanking because they take so long to get to the other side of the map. It catches everyone off guard and I can land a few kills rather quickly by mowing them down with the mini-gun. It's also really fun to add wired reflexes to have a speed troll.

The recticle especially is the worst. Will I get a headshot? Who knows, the cross-hair is 6 times bigger than the guy's head! Maybe if the weapons and movement didn't handle like shit then I might be mildly interested in magic/tech stuff.

Couldn't agree more about the aiming mechanics. I still had some fun playing the game, but it isn't really my type of game.

Although I'm not interested in these multiplayer titles myself, so this will be all I have to say here...

I'll note that those interested in such titles should check out the demo (w/bots as well) if they haven't already. A well-done tutorial shows off the actions/controls and they are smartly designed and interesting, such as the neat flow of glide into limited teleport moves. Weapon control also felt well-honed, and I especially liked how the shotgun felt honestly weak when even at mild distance forcing you to try to close such as with that teleport move.

The demo is 40% of the full game...demos haven't been that complete since the shareware days

or you could say that there isn't a whole lot in the full game to begin with :p

...but being serious...it was pretty interesting to see the "average" gamer figuring this out last night while I was playing and over hearing their conversations....
People who downloaded it are at least finding it interesting so.....though pretty amazing how many people just jumped into matches without playing the tutorials (>___<)

some quotes:

"bleeding out?.......oh, I dont know what that is....."

or

"....how do you select magic?"

"Wha?"

KB/M crippling. I couldn't ever buy a game that intentionally kneecaps a control scheme. It's a bit insulting to expect people to buy a game so they can play nerfed.

Uh oh I bought Forza yesterday but I think that I;m enjoying the Shadowrun demo more.....might have to trade Forza tommorow!

True. Hopefully they'll patch it.

Gonna play the Tenchu demo real quick then I'll probably be on Shadowrun for the rest of the night. Send me an invite if anyone wants to play. GT is RyoGCH.

On one hand, I'm really liking the demo and want to play the full game but on the other I don't want to pay 60 bucks for it and I'm afraid that by the time the game goes down in price it'll be damn near impossible to jump into an online match without being completely lost playing against people that've been on since day 1.

Shadowrun seems like alot of fun (surprisingly) but I may have to let this train pass me by.

Just got my Dwarf Scourge achievement. Yeah baby. Trying to get my Shotgun and Katana achievements currently. Anyway, I had a teammate tonight who in TWO games of Attrition wouldn't buy res. Just kept buying tons of guns he said. In a game type where Ressurect is even more clutch than normal he wouldn't buy it.:lol

I have yet to download the demo, but I'll open my big mouth anyways. :D

I've always had the feeling that it would be a solid online game. But there seems to be some issues, that leave me wondering if MS set up FASA to fail. I mean, the FPS market is extremely saturated, no one wanted to see a Shadowrun FPS to begin with, and finally an online only game HAS to be priced lower than usual.

And I forgot to mention how the PC version is supposed to work...with a Live subscription and stuff...all of these things are issues that MS are at fault for. I get the impression that FASA did what they could under the circumstances set by MS.

It looks like the game has some issues, and those could be easily fixed with patches (ie. breaking up parties)...but I don't blame FASA at all, I blame MS. And if FASA goes under, it's because MS screwed them. FASA = Bret Hart

The breaking up parties thing is done to balance teams according to the loading screens.

Had some good matches last night playing from 11:30 to 3:30 (I really need to cut back). One game was crazy as I took out two guys with two shotgun blasts, they must have been weakened from an earlier firefight so eh.. Dwarves are a load of fun for killing Trolls. Just rush in, drain away their essence, and then finish them. I seem to average 13 kills a game now, putting me towards the top of my team most of the time. Shame every now and then I'll get stuck playing with people who don't know what the hell they're doing(getting betrayed by a grenade thrower is one thing but IMO everyone should be using smartlink during intense firefights).

It's apparent I cuss way too much while playing this game. While removing corpses I'm constantly saying "**** you **** you **** you" with each shotgun blast..Should probably seek a therapist...oh well.

Also grabbed that one achievement for delivering the artifact to safety while bleeding out.

I thought perhaps at least the demo would crack the top 10, but alas.

Those stats are sad. Slightly impacted by the game also being on Vista, but not by that much. Shadowrun is such a fun game. Hopefully the price will drop quickly and the community will jump all over it. This would of course be more likely to happen if the game gets supported with DLC over the summer which would be great.

Just bought the retail game this afternoon after playing the demo first. Awesome game. Add me if you guys want.

i also at least make the top 2 or 3, average around 10 kills a game. Yeah the time disappears when you play.. about 4 hours disappeared on me today, especially once my brother joined a game and got put on the other team.. good times :lol

How could the demo possibly show up on there if it came out on Thursday? Unless I'm reading the Major Nelson chart wrong? It takes time for people to download stuff, and of course the Halo 3 beta was still running.

I just went through the first tutorial. It was almost identical to how it was back when I played it at FASA. The main differences were in the details: more effects for magic use, more blood and bullet effects, better animation transitions. Essentially, the kind of polish you would expect from an extra eight months of development.

There were some significant changes in the combat, mostly in the aiming and accuracy models. The targeting recicule opens up faster, and closes slower, than it did before. Overall firing seems much less accurate - I distinctly remember taking guys out from accross a room with the SMG while moving, but that's impossible now (unless you crouch or use short pulses). Most of those changes probably came as the game was balanced for PC to 360 play.

The combat felt a little unsatisfying, and I don't mean just shooting bots. The feedback loop - the firing animtion and sound, the visual impact on the oppenent - didn't have as much punch as I thought it would. The shotty in particular just wasn't fun to use (and that was one of the only criticisms I had in my epic impressions post, so I'm bummed that didn't get addressed).

Gliding and teleporting are just as fun as I remember. It really does change the game completely. Not sure how much time I'll put into this overall. I have concluded the price isn't right for me, and by the time it will be I'll have Halo 3 on hand so I won't want another online shooter for a long time. I think the window this game has to be successful is a narrow one, and the price will hurt its chances.

As for the Live charts, I don't remember what day the Shadowrun demo came out. They include the latest Arcade game (Pac-Man) so they go through Wednesday at least. I think they go through each Friday, it should include several days of Shadowrun - both the game and the demo.

Yeah I didn't think about the fact that Halo 3 Beta is still going and the demo JUST came out so hopefully people play it, and then once the H3 Beta is over they go and pick it up.

The arcade games are segmented from other releases. A regular demo is lumped in with Halo 3 beta, Gears of War, and Guitar Hero II.

Dude the Hour of Victory demo made #7.

The Hour of Victory demo was already released and had a full week. May 30th was the release date of Hour of Victory, June 7th for Shadowrun. It wasn't released the same day as Shadowrun.

Next weeks numbers should have Shadowrun in the top 10 I'm guessing. It'll have a full 7 days worth of users playing it.

Kotaku has a pretty cool in depth article on Shadowruns art design.

"Why'd we go with blue [for RNA]? If we went with green then it's the military in the Tom Clancy games...Why don't we go with brown? Then it's Smokey and the Bandit and the forest service," Hirsch said. "But we had to explore all this, because we wanted them to look like mercenaries. Blue is really the only color that made them look like mercenaries without being the army."

Using lighting, Hirsch and his team solidified the color palletes of both the characters and the maps. Since these environments (in essence) match either red or blue color palletes, lighting clarifies any potential blending issues that may crop, and allow fine tweaking on the "moving target" factor. Note: I just made that term up and have no clue why I put it in quotes.

Another price of the online game environment was that the entire map had to be loaded into the 512MB of RAM at all times, since buffering simply isn't an option when you can teleport indoors to outdoors or up 5 stories of a building in a manner of seconds.

Shadowrun is an amazing game. I'm glad I bought it. I'm ALSO glad that a demo for it was put out because otherwise I wouldn't have given it a chance after seeing the reviews it received.
