"Shadowrun will be the greatest awesome I'M COVERED IN...500 - Internal Server Error"

I haven't used smartlink since I got the achievement for it. Posted 21 kills in my last game(though most of them were through the smg/shotgun but I did take out four in a row with the pistol).

I nearly always wind up in the top three for money, even though I rarely have the most kills. Alot of people don't seem to get that this game rewards team play. The guy running around rezzing people is more important than the super sniper. The guy on raid who buys strangle first helps the team more than the guy who spends his cash on an SMG in the first round. I've seen guys with 20+ kills who don't understand why their team keeps losing. Duh, it's because your team isn't rezzing players and working together.

Yea, this is what I love about Shadowrun, the roles you can adapt based on your style of play. I've never been great with twitch shooters, I rarely do well on Halo. However, on Shadowrun, I can play a dwarf and help the team more by rezzing everyone (I often end matches with 9+ resurrections) and still end up at the top of the scoreboard with a winning team.

Seems like there's an influx of players these days. Maybe it's because the Halo 3 beta is over or something. I had to go through 3 servers last night just to find one with a decent team.

The first server I got into, my whole team consisted of elves and me the troll. Instead of guarding the artifact (we were RNA on temple grounds) they just kept running out into Lineage spawn and trying to be cowboy ninja.

In the second server, half the team was obsessed with getting achievement points.

The third server no one but me bought rez which usually is fine by me, but when they start whining and asking me to rez them all the time, it gets annoying. When I'm on defense and guarding the artifact, I don't feel too compelled to run out and rez stupid teammates who run straight into hoards of enemies.

Don't get me wrong. I love the game. It's just frustrating trying to find a people who want to play as a team sometimes.

Yeah, the ending of the Halo 3 Beta brought over a bunch of self-absorbed man-children who think the point of the game is to increase their personal score at any cost. Their teams also lose alot and then they like to complain that everyone else on the team sucks. These are people who do not get the point.

Upthread there's a big list of Gaffers playing. You're welcome to FR me, as I usually have a team of at least three or four Gaffers going when I play.

There is no influx of players. Or maybe Shadowrun's matchmaking system is the most retarded in history. It's still common to get placed in the same game 10+ times in a row. In fact, it's happening right now. I've backed out of this match that is waiting on "one player" to join about 14 times now and it has put me back in this match every single time. Hard to believe this is the ONLY available match.

Never had it happen to me. Other than once you join a group you stay there. I've never backed out and wound up with the same group.

And there is an influx of new players. All you have to do is play regularly to see that.

I've never been put in the same match after quitting out and have only had to wait on additional players when searching for 8 player only games. I have 8 player games unchecked though as well as all the small versions of the regular maps.

Okay I'm new to the whole Xbox Live thing, but is there a way to join a friend's game if he's already playing? So far, the only way I can play with friends is if I start a party out of game, invite them, and then I do a search. Or they invite me and they do a search. I'd like to just invite a friend to a game I'm already playing, or have a friend join me without the invite.

It's also a way to glitch, actually. If you quit out of a game and it puts you right back in the same game... if you keep the same race and you still have all the magic/techs you've bought previously and it also gives you the big bonus cash from joining a game in progress.

And I suppose it's just their game. Worst matchmaking of any game in all of history.

I've had a few people on my FL show up as being in a joinable Shadowrun game, and I hopped in, but I think there's only a very brief period between rounds where you can do this.

That's what I thought I saw someone say once, but how do you know it's joinable? In your buddylist, does it say that the game is joinable? I usually just see that they're playing Shadowrun, but I can't do anything past that.

There is a white icon on your Friends list - it's a bent arrow to the left of the gamertag, pointing to them. If that icon is next to them, they are joinable. It was a feature added in the last Dashboard updated.

My GT is Charsace. Send me some FR people.

For those of you that want to own learn how to use the rifle. 2 headshots from the rifle kills elves and 3 shot kills humans.

Exactly I play mainly as a dwarf because of support. Let the opposing team throw a summon, I run right to it and drain its essence which save my team from having to deal with the distraction. I double up when my pals are getting jumped by elves or trolls because if I can get close enough to drain their essence, I crippled their strategy (i.e. Elves can re-gen as fast, and Trolls can't harden their skin). So if we work together the risk for me is minimized. I throw down strangle to keep people at bay, or jump into enemy strangle to clear a path, and SO many other tactics. I've played with Besada in quite a few games now and when we get into a game together we have an unspoken bond. I've got his back because I KNOW he's got mine. And we always end up in the top three and our team usually wins when they see a good example of how looking out for the team works out brilliantly in this game. You can see the light bulb pop over their heads when they "get it".

I love this game. I hope someone has a deal where you can pick this game up for cheap, because that's the ONLY thing stopping a good number of my pals from owning it.

Alot of the game is about letting go of your ego and knowing what you can do to best help the team. I'm just not the best shot in the world, so I actively seek ways to help the team. Sometimes that's magic based, but on more than one occasion I've run into a crowd of enemies and dropped grenades at my feet. One team member for four enemies is a good deal in a team-based game.

And boy, do I like to run with the artifact. The best is when everyone's clustered around it. I race in and grab it. The opposing team all tries to shoot me, turning their backs on my team. I frequently die that way, but again, if it helps the team, I'm down for it.

Man, I'm ready to go home and get my Run on.

press "Y" in the Shadowrun menus to open your party controls. set your party to "open". from then on, if you're in a game or not, anyone can join your party at any time. I always do this right away so that if anyone hops on and wants to play, they can just jump right into my party.

I buy res as soon as it's available to me in the few matches I've played, so I don't want people thinking I'm the tard running around by himself and then complaining about not winning. :P

I mean I can totally see why people are digging it, it just lacks gunplay that satisfies me, and to me a FPS isn't much fun if I don't find the gun fights to be fun.

I would just like to say that most of the people that play this game don't know how to play. Most people will start the first round off by purchasing swords or shotguns. I can't figure out why anyone would want to do this. Buying gust or smartlink would be a better option if a person wants to rack up kills because they're really effective when used with the pistol.

It is also annoying when people who aren't playing troll don't have rez after 3 rounds. The only thing they are good for is supplying the enemy with swords and smgs! I used to give people money when they would ask for it (I usually have alot because I am always rezing or planting TOL) because they would say "I'm going to buy rez," when what they really do is buy a sword.

I also hate how there are a ton of sword wielding elves online. A tanked out troll, teched out human, or dwarf summoner with a smg and shotgun dominates these guys. I had a 27 kill game the other night because the other team was nothing but elves. I came in with a tanked troll and dominated.

Playing with randoms is only good for improving skills IMO. When playing with an unreliable you have to be on your game if you want to win or even compete with the other team. Playing with randoms helped me improve my quickcasting speed for TOL and rez, my aiming with the guns, and learned good double teleportation points on maps (gotta know how to escape when shit hits the fan).

Edit: Marsu you need to quit the drug known as "Forza."

everytime a vista user joins the game gets laggy as all hell. it sucks ass and gives an edge to the team that the vista user joined.

two thumbs down for shadowrun.

We have seen this each time we play. Round 4 and all the elves have gliders and smartlink but no rez. Anyways, I'm up to play tonight so I'll be on later. If I see you on I will send you an invite.

Your post just made me recall another thing I hate, people that don't turn off smartlink when flanking or when most of their team is dead!

Or people that buy Smartlink and the Glider for elves. If they want those techs so bad, they should play as a human.

Or maybe I want to shoot better and run faster and regenerate my health? People who criticise what tech and magic items I buy because they have a different playstyle bug me the most.

Zombie Scores achievement just now. That was a nice surprise given I never run the flag =p

And now Blowhard. Only person I forced to their death was 3 minutes after I died.

A teched out human with tol is much better than a teched out elf IMO. Having more power and strength better than having the regen.

You just have to find the play style that fits you. If you're looking for straight up gunplay, a Human with SMG, Shotgun, Rifle or Sniper Rifle. Or maybe even an Elf with an SMG and Katana if you're into fast and furious. And if you're a Human use Smartlink. You've just got to find what race and weapons and abilities fit your play style. For me it varies from map to map.

Lately, I've ran with smartlink, smoke and ressurection. Asside from last night, when I absolutely sucked due to double and triple teams, I've usually mopped the floor with kills.

I always use smartlink because it helps me aim a lot and it's good to know that my shots will actually go where they're supposed to go in most instances. I'd rather have the regeneration of the elf any day over a stronger human.

It's not that: it's just the fact that there are (as far as I know) no consequences for using tech as a human, whereas you limit your magic with them as an elf. And I was talking about elves that use both techs at the same - not just one - which is imo a waste.

Some people really don't care for the magic aspect but like the speed, maneuverability and regeneration of an elf. I used the smartlink/wireless reflexes at the same time with a katana once as an elf. I rezed one person and couldn't do anything else. It's not for me. But some people like that. I think using a tech heavy elf is better than using a human just with a tree because, with an elf, you could use something else instead of the tree with your regeneration.

Then again, the elves start with 9 essence and humans with 5 (or is it 6?), so the tech penalty pretty much cancels out any reason to be a human at all as a teched-out elf has like one less essence pip than the human. Big deal. I really don't understand what FASA were thinking with the humans, as everything else is so impressively well-balanced.

Huh

Reflexes is 4 essence . So that right there puts humans ahead , want smart link thats 2 gone , want glider ? thats another 2 , want ehanced vision ? thats 2 more.

So elves get 10 essence . Reflexes put them at 6

Humans start with 7 . So humans are ahead right there. I cna build a great ninja human with reflexes and enhanced vision and still have 7 essence left. With an elf i'd be at 4 . Which gives my human alot more energy for teleport or smoke to get behind enemies

I've been absolutely owning the last few games I've played...Been playing as an Elf since I got my Human Player achievement and I've been pretty damn nasty. The thread will hit 2K tonight! I think I'm the new Brimstone.

Bwah? You think humans are underpowered? :lol Elves have such low health, humans tear through them every time. I love watching all these sword using elves charge at me, get gusted then get ****ed up. If you ask me elf should buy res in the first round every single time. They are better at support but nobody plays them that way.

Um, yeah, no. I tear through humans every time, because I know how to play. You're talking about the influx of new players who all want to be badass katana elves but have no idea how to play. A blindfolded player could tear through those guys.

Speaking of the new players, it's too bad really. I praised the community in my review as it, before the H3 beta ended, really was cooperative and people were nice and friendly 99% of the time.

Before: "Hey, dude, what language are you speaking? Oh, swedish, that's cool. What's the weather like? How are the girls? I hear they're hot!"
Now: "DUDE SHUT THE **** UP THIS IS ****ING AMERICA DUDE WHAT THE **** SHUT UP AMERICA ****ING INVENTED EVERYTHING ****ING DOUCHEBAG **** YOU SHUT THE **** UP WITH YOUR ****ING FRENCH YOU ***"

:(

Ok, so it's not quite at Gears levels of assholery yet, but it's getting there...

Yeah, the whole "rush-with-the-sword" tactic only works on new players.

Elves are not made for 1 on 1 fighting. The only way you could possibly tear through humans is by hitting and running, im assuming with teleport since if you used smoke you would get owned by people like me every time. Nothing is more satisfying than a gust kill.

By teched-out I didn't mean insanely over-teched.

um that isn't over teched.

I think you forget that alot of the magic skils have an answer on the tech side

Dwaves rock with strangle ? So do humans with amg's

An elf a bit to fast for you ? A human with reflexes is just as fast and can block bullets .

Need to get a nice snipe from high above use glider

Tech is great in the game and humans don't take any losses by using it. Its naive to say elves are over powered. With a proper set up i can kill almost any newbie elf out there

Truth.

Gust kills are damn fun. I like wearing people down, watching them smoke, then going "oh yeah?" while I blow them away. Shame the blowhard achievement is so easy to get. I must have 20 or so gust kills by now. =/

Not almost, they did do that.

Well my copy is at the post office since I wasn't here when they tried to deliver. Gonna get it and probably play right after work.

In honor of breaking 2000 posts, I'd like to see if anyone is interested in an all-Gaf Shadowrun Hoedown.

I'm thinking 12-16 Gaffers, a private match, and all the bullets you can eat.

This weekend would be fine for me. If we can find a time for people to get together, I'd be happy to set it up, as I think I might be the only one with enough room on my Friends list to fit everyone.

Anyone interested? Any suggestions as to specific date and time?
