I got a question for GAF: how long do you think the Shadowrun community will last? is it one of those games there be a small but dedicated community for a long time to come or will it become barren and tough to find a game in a month

I think it will stay for a long time, it's a really addictive game and it just stays alot of fun if your playing with a good team :)

Really want to get this achievement. This is the first game I actually care about getting achievements. The 755 points I have for this game I earned and have had fun earning them.

Did you get it on that game where you 2were hiding behind a column while five or six players were engaged in an all out firefight? I was dead and watching you, and that was hilarious.
 
I have been playing some more, and I am just amazed at how well this game is balanced...

Weapon wise nothing seems too powerful. The SMG and Rifle are the most common and most useful in most situations, but the shotgun and sword are far better in close range and the sniper and minigun are better in a lot of circumstances. I was sure the minigun was going to rule, but the way it fires means that in a good defensive situation it can take out 2-3 people easily, but if suprised it is really no help at all.

The magic, tech and abilities are all balanced as well. The elven healing and troll hardening mean that those two races can't afford to let their magic get too low and dwarves suck at sustained casting situations where they can't get close to an enemy (such as a multi teleport escape). Humans have none of these problems and have a reduced penalty for technology, but they also lack the regeneration and toughness of the other races. I also haven't seen a dominant ability, as everything seems common enough (except AM generators, but I am thinking about adding them to my loadout).

All in all, I am surprised at how low it scored. The game isn't the shadowrun of the 90's or a singleplayer game (although the bots are fun enough) but what it does it does so well that it should easily be an 8-9 game.

You know what 4:00 PM is okay, but I wont be able to stay long sadly. I've got a friend visiting now so Shadowrun isn't an option now..we're probably gonna watch a movie and after that he'll go home and I'll join you guys asap :).

Really balanced, really awesome. Its tempered by the attitude of teammates though as griefers ruin a match in seconds.

Fantastic game. I started playing when it came out and I'm still playing pretty much everyday. Been playing with Gaffers for the last five hours. Great fun.

It's not anywhere near bad. The game may be missing maps and a single player campaign but what's there is really rock solid and a ton of fun. Pretty amazing that a game with such a horrible reputation as Shadowrun turned out to be one of the better games in its genre.

The only real drawbacks imo is the price and the uncertainty of additional support.
 
just played the demo and finished the training mode. the game is actually pretty awesome and im probably going to buy it tomorrow. it is one of the more entertaining first person shooters i have ever played (multiplayer FPS anyways). $60 is a steep price for online only, but i suppose you should judge a game by the entertainment it provides you and not the features that are in the game. the way i see it i pay $60 for madden every year and i only play it online, so what's the difference!

look for me online tomorrow chums.... oh i also have to buy a new headset. ****ing cat
 
So, we did the Shadowrun Hoedown.

We started at 2:00 PM CST with just two measly players. We bumped up to four and ran some great two on two games.

Things filled out eventually, around 4:00PM to six and we did some three on three and some public matching.

By the time I left we had eight, and did some four on four and more public matches.

That was at 8:00 CST (with me playing non-stop for six hours) and it was still going when I left. In fact, robut had just shown up, so no telling how late things ran.

Great games guys, even the ones where we got owned. Thanks to everyone who showed up.

Yeah, but the very next game you two owned us. I actually liked the two on two play, if for no other reason than it assured I wouldn't run into packs of three and four and get instantly slaughtered.

I think it was mostly the race matchup. As a troll, I could easily go toe-to-toe with both of you at the same time. With minigun and smart-link you really stood no chance. Besada being there as well kept you from being able to simply dance around me, so you didn't have a lot of options.

When the races evened up, you guys kicked our asses though. I think in small games like that trolls and elves are the best races, because the elves have the regen to last a number of skirmishes and the trolls have the ability to outlast anything in a straight fight.

I would have stayed longer, but I had to go out and get a volt-ohm-meter before radioshack closed. Trying for an A+ Cert, and I wanted to test out a few things about power supplies.

Agreed, I was iffy on the price at release but at this point I'v probably played the game for about 40 hours and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon (until Halo 3 at least). I have gotten plenty of entertainment out of the game.
 
i finished all the trainings and decide to go online... only i couldn't! i tried to join a public game and it just sat there "searching" for about 5-10 mins. is there no on online in thise online-only game? or what am i doing wrong? sucky!
 
I think that if it has been searching for more than 5 mins, your best bet would be to restart the search all over again. If you've made changes to the game type preferences, make sure they're as loose as possible.

It takes a while to search for a game when you first start playing because the game tries to match you up with players of similar True Skill ratings. Since you first started out, your rating is probably pretty low, so the game's trying to find similar players. Once you play a few matches, searching for a game should become faster.

It takes a minute or two to find a game. If it seems like its taking a while, cancel the search and start it again.

I'll try to get the new people added, though. Hopefully the next one will be much bigger. I'm getting closer to all the achievements, I've 39 out of 50 so far and elf player should be done with soon. Then its back to being the dwarf! I don't really hate playing an elf but everybody plays them! 8 on 8 matches usually has a team of at least 4-5 elves at least for each team. It's almost people want to be suicidal:lol
 
charsace, i couldn't join your game when you invited me or through "join party" feature on the buddy list. i would click the accept button, then it would go to the menu and just stay there as if i hadn't accepted any sort of invite.

anyways played a few games online and got raped. then my console froze when i was finally doing halfway decent! next time!

Same thing keeps happening to me. I click Join in Progress or accept invites...and nothing happens at all.
 
I'm too lazy tonight to post links, but Kotaku (not banned anymore, right?) has two articles up about Shadowrun. The first is that apparently it's been hacked to work with XP, which probably means more players soon. The second is Mitch Geitelman bitching about the reviews for the game, while pointedly dodging the cost issue by putting it on Microsoft.

I'm so sick with my sinus infection that I barely played today, even though I had the day off.
 
good games tonight to the people i played with. im starting to get the hang of the game. i was doing pretty well with the troll.

i like the game a lot i just wish there were at LEAST leaderboards and some extra features. oh well, what can you do

We shouldn't have tried to fight you directly. As you said, elves are more for Hit'n'Run.
 
Hmmm...I am very tempted to join you guys in the fun =0. Only thing is that i only got WinXP...Does it still work with WinXP? Hope that they will release a PC demo soon... what does the game feel like? Quake 3?
 
Ok, is there a secret to getting into parties that I don't know about? Every single invite, or join in progress that I do...does absolutely nothing. No errors. No feedback. NOTHING. Not only that but it seems that the game effectively breaks the dashboards private chat feature.
