Quake 3 never achieved the level of success of Counter-Strike. No online game has. So it makes sense to have a game inspired by some of Counter-Strikes game mechanics rather than the more traditional frag-a-thon style shooter.
McBradders said:This PC + Consoles playing online together in perfect harmony is a ridiculous pipe-dream. It won't catch on in a big way until the disparity in controls are addressed. All the stupid add-on keypads in the world won't fix that gap.
it was more a matter of using analytical skills and the development team was very scientific about how they went about making the whole cross-platform thing work. It took them about three months of very hard work - that's three calendar months, mind. If you think of that in months of manpower it was wildly expensive, because not only did we have most of our design team on it but we also had most of our test team on it too. In our test team we had league Halo players and league Counter-Strike players playing against each other, these very hardcore gamers playing it over and over until they thought it was fair.

Brimstone said:The network is the real platform, both the XB360 and the PC are just dumb terminals.
The differences of mouse & keyboard vs. a gamepad would considered transparent. Meaning easy to notice. If Shadowrun has made those differences opaque, the ramifications for this achievment are huge.
The creation of an opaque channel for the LIVE network, makes the LIVE network the real computer, not the hardware.

To provide some context from the other side, I hate team based shooters. Here's why. I don't want to worry about what X amount of other players are doing. I don't want to worry about how my performance is affecting them, or if they're affecting me. I just want to worry about killing the bad man on my screen as fast as possible while keeping myself alive as long as possible. I like the competition and I like winning. In a team based shooter I may be carried, or dragged down by my team. Not as satisfying as being at the top of a Deathmatch/Slayer/Sharpshooter match. You know you're the best in the room then. Also alot of the negative things about online gaming in general are reduced, quitters, assholes, skill level imbalance... not as much of an issue.
So yeah, I can't wait for Halo. All I got at the moment is Rainbow 6. And people keep turning sharpshooter matches into team sharpshooter on me.

And doesn't everyone who wants Halo 3 already own a 360?
Don't trust a dude with white hair about tech predictions I say!

This creates the very real possibility that Sony PC users will be more likely to choose an Xbox 360 over Playstation 3 if they want to experience cross-platform play.

So, now the trick is to associate Shadowrun with the most anticipated game of this generation, I guess hoping it will allow it to osmose some of the hype?

I know Mouse>Controller WTF?Aleman said:I don't see the appeal of playing against PC gamers on my 360. The whole reason I do most of my online gaming on consoles is because the playing field is much more level (same controls, same hardware, just different TV/sound system).

I wish I still had that attraction to solo-multiplayer. But since experiencing such wonders as Chrome Hounds with the great people here at GAF and Splinter Cell with personal friends here in the Netherlands, I simply can't look back anymore. For me personally the teamwork and unique strrategic gameplay is so much more statisfying. It's like being a parent, or something. Give and receive, depend on them and they depend on you. Share responsibility for a great achievement of tactical depth (not just killing the other team).
Also I'm not talking team based shooters. I dislike those as well, it's the same as solo, but 'in a team', like you said. I'm talking different experiences, not comparable to Halo or Shadowrun shooter gameplay like Chrome Hounds and Splinter Cell.

DopeyFish said:a) amount of players doesn't equate to game quality. And you're fighting a losing battle comparing Resistance to Halo / Halo 2... The games are classic MP games... with the only real rival being CS: Classic...
b) Dedicated servers... Not sure if you noticed but even 2.5 years after release, Halo 2 is still pulling 500K matches a day. During it's peak it was hitting 1.5-2 million/day. That would require an incredible amount of dedicated servers.

Third out of three.... Come on, EQ Online Adventures sucked. ATM no console has put a decent MMO out there yet. PSO is almost decent but it lacks in depth to become a good MMO.
Halo 2, GeOW, R6V, GRAW2, etc etc.
