"Shadowrun will be the greatest awesome I'M COVERED IN...500 - Internal Server Error"

Who here is seriously considering dropping $60 for this game? (Other than Brimstone, we all know he has 3 copies pre-ordered)

Is $60 the announced price? Seems like a bad idea if so. $60 for the game, $50 for XBL Gold, plus you have the Halo 3 beta coming soon, then Halo 3 itself...

Still, I'm thinking about picking it up. Beta's been fun.

This thread delivers. :lol

The interview starts around the 38 minute mark.
You should've made a new thread for the in... oh wait.

A guy that works at FASA is praising Shadowrun? After this shocking revelation, I guess there's no need to wait to hand out the GOTY now.

That would be considered blow back.

"Sony is in trouble if these games take off. They don’t even do multi-player that well yet"

Resistance:

40 players
Dedicated servers
Free for everyone with a PS3 to play

Halo 3:

16 players
No dedicated servers
50 dollars a year to play

Halo 3 ain't no Resistance killer. Someone needs a lesson in how to do online gaming right.

It sure as hell isn't Sony...

what kind of CRACK are you on, Resistance SUCKS compaired to any of the halo's. I spent countless hours playing Halo 2 online and let me tell you it blows Resistance out of the F***ing water. OH and more players doesnt mean a better online.

Well, after playing a week of Shadowrun this game is really deep in strategy! You the player, have to change what you do and how you do it so much that each game is refreshing. Are there problems with the beta well yes it has a few.

Glitches that need fixing.

1. Server disconnection lost. (Since, this is a online game online they should have a backup server as needed to stop disconnects.)

2. Random increase of money to a random # of players (sometimes you get more than your share of the cash but, since you have to work as a team other players usually give you cash to buy your items. This is a team effort game!)

3. Time limit should be longer! If your alive you can score or defend (depending on which side your on.)

Other than these few things Shadowrun can have it's place as an original FPS that's a refreshing take on this style of game play. Price will be key to it's success and Microsoft should not charge a high dollar amount for this game since it is online only (that and Halo 3 being months away). If Microsoft could charge 39.99-49.99 for it, it could have a chance at a successful run. The last thing that this game needs is a demo if you havn't played it you won't understand it's appeal plain and simple but, boy is it fun to play when you have a good team that works together. If your not a team player skip this game because Shadowrun demands team play to survive! Great game my wife was impressed by it and even enjoyed watching me play it because of the level of chance and surprise envolved. I plan to buy when it's released in June. :)

Is it $60 good?

halo 3 will 'kill' resistance in its first day, and the people citing 40 players as something special really need to take a step back, more doesn't mean better, pdz had 32 players so I guess pdz kills halo 3 by 2?
My God man you compare Resistance online to that crap PDZ? Bail out while you can.

Sony's lack of great online games didn't hurt them much last generation. I'm not sure I trust this Rob Enderle, if that is his real name.

It didn't hurt them last gen because they had the rpg market and the casual market (with the GTA series). Its a little different this time around.

Is it $60 good?

Tough call I've always perferred to have online as extra that makes a game worth the $60. Now, seeing how Shadowrun is Online only that mean's everyone has to have online connection plus like the game and that limits your user demographic. That said, $60 would be too much for me to pay for just a online only game with payable content on the way(maps, class's, spells, tech, etc.).

Well at least he can't make a new thread about the podcast.

Don't doubt this interview on the Podcast. It's a top shelf interview.

The guy from FASA gives tons of detail, and the people from 360Arcadians ask really good questions and let him answer questions without cutting in.

People that do podcasts should take notes on how well they interview the guy from FASA. They are prepared with good questions.

Funny you should mention Tribes. Penny-Arcade:

So, yes - after Monday's hands-on experience with a very, very complete version of Shadowrun, I'm comfortable saying that they aren't blaspheming when they talk about Tribes. Tribes brought us robust customization and highly novel mobility systems. Teleporting through walls, floors, and ceilings is something I'm prepared to call "highly novel," and the Glider option will really take you back. If you can picture Tribes conglomerated with one part Counter-Strike, adding a round-to-round buy phase but bolstering the mundane options with cyberware and magic, you're there.

Getting past what I wanted a Shadowrun game to be - i.e. a role-playing game - was difficult, but this is not the first time they've gone elsewhere with a setting that I have some affection for. They took Battletech and Crimson Skies, elaborate tabletop wargames, and transformed them into (quite enjoyable) twitch action festivals. I've complained each time, and then recanted. There's probably a lesson in there, somewhere. Judging the game Shadowrun isn't might not be entirely constructive.

You've got four races, each with varying levels of "essence" that is used to power spells. In addition, when you install tech options, some of them actually lock up a certain amount of your essence so it's not available for use. Here's one example of how these things come together: A troll's skin begins to harden as it takes hits. This is an effect you can actually see, so as an opponent you can gauge how much of your damage is actually getting in there. You can chip this troll with Smartlink, an augmentation that allows limited autoaim, adds zoom to any weapon, and lets you fire into melee without harming your team. Installing that equipment locks down some essence. But since a troll's defensive ability is actually powered by essence, you're making a choice in doing so.

This is a game that is going to live and die by its demo, because I honestly believe that if I were to put a shooter enthusiast in front of this thing, the polish, the loadout options, and the feel of it will get a hook in. As an abstract concept, the game has interesting ideas. As a genuine experience - where its quick rounds and area-of-effect resurrections make each map a roaring asylum - it enthralls.

I wasn't expecting him to be so positive on the game. PA can be hard to please.

I've been saying for a while that the demo will make or break this game.

The demo and the price, cause $60 for a 9 map multiplayer shooter won't fly with anyone.
Has it been confirmed to be $60? Totally argee with you - you can't sell nine maps and three gametypes for $60 regardless of how good the core gamplay may be.

You could sell me Counterstrike for $60 much more easily than Halflife for $60.

I realize there is an audience for it. But the content - in terms of maps and game types - is about what Gears of War shipped with and much less than Halo 2 had, and those titles have full-blown campaigns included as well. Counterstrike sold well on the Xbox so this may impact sales less I think it will, but to this 360 owner, who is already sold on the gameplay, that's not enough content for that price.

I would like to know this as well. I will definitely buy it at $40 but no way I will spend $60 on online only game.

Of course the fact that Counterstrike Source, which is free, has more maps then Shadowrun doesn't bother you?

There are some parallels here to the Battlefield series I think. It's essentially an online game and as far as I'm aware they retail for $60ish dollars.

Do you guys think Battlefield sucks? Or does it redeem itself in some manner that Shadowrun won't when it releases?

Schafer said:

Why should it? Anyone that is a fan of Counter-Strike knows how important a good map design is. People repeatedly play Dust, Aztec, and Italy. It's much better to have high quality maps rather than whole bunch of medicore ones.

Also the maps in Shadowrun are probably far more complicated to make because of all the different spell and cybertechnology powers. Shadowrun will be much more vertical than Counter-Strike as well.

[As a genuine experience - where its quick rounds and area-of-effect resurrections make each map a roaring asylum - it enthralls. /QUOTE]

Penny Acrades impressions are very positive.

I'm confused. Are we still saying that people are going to look at Shadowrun, think "Counterstrike 2!!!#@!$@!", and run and buy it?

I'm sure it'll be a decent game, but these kinds of comparisons are just asking for trouble.

Funny you should mention Tribes. Penny-Arcade:

I always mention TRIBES. And this game is definatley borrowing heavily.

There's only 1 question, a question that will both let me know of Shadowrun is crap, and if windows for live is crap(well they are both crap for me right now, no vista for me for 2 years min):

Does shadowrun come with mod tools? That's all i need to know

I enjoy this game quite a bit, and I think the Tribes references are on point. I've been playing the beta for about two weeks, and the game is solid. It's complex, it's thought provoking, and the metagame is pretty thick. I'm enjoying it, despite the hype machine...and despite it not being an RPG.

Seeing as I'm eternally damned never to get into the Beta, when is this demo coming out? I want Shadowrun, but I need to play it before I'm fully sold.

Any word on a Miami Vice sequel?

No, but Michael Mann acquired the Vacheron Malte watch worn by Colin Farrell in the Miami Vice movie. The President of the company personally delivered it to Mann.

mman.JPG

Vacheron CEO Juan-Carlos Torres took the opportunity to personally hand the watch to Michael Mann.

In Miami Vice, character Sonny Crocket (played by Colin Farrell) was wearing a Vacheron Constantin Malte Chronograph Perpetual Calendar in Platinum. Michael Mann decided to acquire it for his own personal collection.

The case, done in platinum, measures 39mm, has double sapphire crystals and is water resistant to 30 meters.

Movement is the manual-wind Vacheron caliber VC 1141QP with 21 jewels, beating at 18,000 bph and a power reserve of 48 hours.

Functions are hours, minutes, small second, date, days, month, year, moon
phase, chronograph minute counter and center seconds register

Microsoft should come to its senses and get Michael Mann to do the Halo movie. He has never done Sci-Fi before. Could you imagine Mann with his eye for ravishing cinematography in a Halo movie? It would be incredible.

What Kubrick did for 2001 is what Mann would do for a Halo movie.

Besides people in Hollywood trust Mann. A movie studio would feel a lot more comfortable with a 200 million dollar budge knowing Mann is at the helm. The guy is a workaholic putting in 18 hour days when shooting a movie. He is one of the most fearless and dedicated movie directors alive today.

Jamie Foxx wore an IWC Aquatimer.

The Vacheron that Colin Farrell wore costs about $100,000, and the IWC Aquatimers that Jamie Foxx wore range around $5000-$10,000.

...

You sir, are something else.

What was the last word on the Halo movie anyway? It sounds like its not happening now.

I have to say that getting into the beta this late has me double owned on a constant basis, and yet it's still fun to try and come up with combos that work well.

I'm close to buying this.

What’s the ultimate loadout (magic, weapons, and tech) for a Troll?

Christopher Blohm: I don’t believe there really is an “ultimate loadout,” but there are some things that the Troll makes better use of. As for weapons, the Troll can be pretty effective with most weapons, but they are the best with the minigun as the clip size allows them to fight as long as their health holds out. Sniping can be a dangerous activity, as enemy snipers love the Troll’s huge heads.

The one “must-have” magic item for Trolls is the Tree of Life. Trolls take lots of damage, so they have a serious need to heal. There really isn’t a “must-have” tech for Trolls—some like Smartlink (especially with a minigun), some like Wired Reflexes (with a katana), while I personally like Enhanced Vision.

If you had to compete against a team made up entirely of Trolls, what would your strategy be?

Christopher Blohm: When I see a Troll heavy team, I always buy Anti-Magic Generators. Trolls need Essence to harden, and if the Anti-Magic Generators take away their Essence, they are much less fearsome. I’d also take a sniper rifle and start popping the Troll’s big melons.

how hard is to make a game look good, not from a technical pov but from an artistic pov? this game looks just...:lol seriously, it can't believe that everyone in the dev team is happy with the way this game looks.

this game looks like counter-strike with elves. even the graphics are in the same league as the graphics in counter-strike.

The Lineage models look great. The RNA models are kind of laughable though.
