Good interview, sounds like a smart guy. He reminds me of Louis CK somehow.
He's pretty captivating to talk with. And carries a big cigar around with him, which fits his personality, somehow.

So far the interview has been pretty revealing, much more so than I thought it would be.

anyone else experiencing faster matchmaking times lately?

Matchmaking has been blazing fast for me tonight..

wait... more people got the demo than full game? WTF?

:lol

ehm, thats like... perfectly normal, dude...

$60 is a highly prohibitive initial cost for something everyone trashed before they even played. Demo gives a taste and I like to think its high rank on that list shows quite a few were curious but didn't want to blindly drop the cash for Shadowrun.

Its seemed a lot better this weekend. Hoping they've resolved some issues.

And a link regarding the rocket launcher and why it blows up like it does. Something about it spinning after being fired.

The Major Nelson interview is good.

The way Mitch described the "Gecko" power with cybernetic tentacle arms, sounded to me like they might combine "grappling hook" power that has been mentioned before.

So you climb on walls thanks to the spider/octopus like arms attached to your back and you'll probably be able to swing like you would if you had a grapling hook.

5 maps already made that just need art, I really do hope we get to see some of these maps one day.

For the low low price of 800 MS points!!

Sorry, couldn't help it. Realisticly though, there isn't really a reason they won't become available if all thats needed is paint.

Sounds like they had some real big problems during development of this, judging by the interview by Major Nelson.

Something is definitely going on behind the scenes now, though.

Possibly. It's really sad that Microsoft gets to set the prices. I'm sure FASA would have set Shadowrun's price tag at $40 or $50. I'm sure they would rather have the low price point and have the community embrace it and feel the success of that rather than getting slapped with a $60 price tag, and getting grilled in reviews and hearing "NO SINGLE PLAYER" over and over.

You can tell that Mitch is salty about the price in the interview.

If you are moving at all or just stopped moving with the Rocket Launcher, the "probable hit area" in your targeting reticule usually includes the ground right at your feet because it's so huge and hasn't closed up yet. This is usually the reason the thing blows up in your face. You need to make sure the targeting reticule does not include the ground in front of you at all.

Rocket launcher...ha! Real men use pistols :lol

Seriously though, I think the pistol with smartlink is one of the deadliest weapons in the games. I've gone from using Rifle/Katana or another combination to just pistol with rifle back up. I tried Rockets once. I hate them.

Word of advice for anyone interested in Shadowrun for PC: Make sure your Vista score is at least a 4, otherwise you'll get a pink/orange screen when a level loads. It seems from the posts on the Shadowrun forums that FASA intentionally made Shadowrun do this instead of just letting it run shitty.

I believe I agree. I've noticed lately that most of my kills come in the first two rounds, when I'm weilding the pistol. I switch to SMG and boom, bullets all over the place and no kills. On the other hand, you sure do have to reload the pistol a bunch.

And rockets suck unless you're firing from close by. I dodged three rockets in a single match yesterday, without smoke or teleport. If you're paying attention it shows you exactly where the rocket's going to hit. If you run as soon as you see it, you're fine. If you stay to empty another half-clip into that elf, well...paste.

I really really want this game, but I'm not willing to spend $60 on it. How long until it's in the bargain bin for the 360? I'd pick it up in a second at $30.

I don't think it's selling too well, so hopefully soon.

I don't know, I find that SMG/Shotgun as a dwarf works really good for me. I use rapid bursts on my SMG, which keeps the reticule small while dealing a lot of damage. I get some pretty good killing sprees usually. I probably get five or six kills before someone takes me down(not in one round, but continuously throughout rounds).

After learning about the Rifle secret from Mitch...I might buy that more often and give that new technique a try.

An update on Shadowrun's near future straight from FASA....

We've announced that we're doing updates. The first one's in the works now. It includes a lot of stuff that we wanted to get in for the shipping product but just couldn't due to time. The second one will come out a while after we've had time to look at gameplay in the wild. We tested the game pretty thoroughly - try playing twice a day for a couple years - but we're not naive enough to think we caught everything. We'll be playing with folks online, listening to feedback, monitoring these and other boards, and making any adjustments necessary to keep the game fun and fair.

Updates are free. Everyone must take them them upon starting Shadowrun while logged into LIVE. We haven't talked about DLC yet. When we have notes on the content of the updates, we'll post here.

-Kimona
Lead Program Manager, FASA Studio

After listening to the interview, and reading this, I wonder if FASA is going to stick those maps that just need art in the first update? It certainly would be nice. What else could they be talking about?

Title updates have to be small, to accomodate Core users. Maps will be DLC, the only question is whether free. I'm guessing: not free.

It's part of Shadowrun development lore - the iterated on the gameplay with just one map (the one the first tutorial is set on) for two years before ramping up into full development.

I'm seeing a new "technique" now from a lot of people. My idiot group of teammates last night was "guarding" the artifact by standing near it with strangle surrounding them. Morons indeed. This dwarf (I hate dwarves) ran in with smoke, unsmoked himself and shot a rocket straight down at the ground. He committed suicide but took every single person except me out. That's twice that's happened, in two seperate games with two seperate players. It's not too bad of a strategy considering the game is elimination. But I hate dwarves :lol

Ah that will explain why Power Station is probably the best map.

I can see where he/she is coming from but I just found the comment kind of funny and the tone somewhat negative.

Rifle secret? Do tell.

Hold down the right trigger to do a 3 round burst. Good for point blank shooting, unbelievably innacurrate at distances beyond 4 inches.

This is a fantastic palate cleanser game.

Right now I can only play Forza when I have enough access to the Living Room to set up the wheel, which isn't that often. So playing Shadowrun is a great replacement. I love how the achievements are set up, too. I was surpised by getting the 5:1 and the Zombie achievement. I love when games reward totally random shit that you could never hope to juke.

It's an achievement for landing the artifact while bleeding out, by the way.

And I haven't been in one match that was a complete newb slaughterfest with vets running the table. Every single one has gone to at least 10 rounds and have been really fun and close. I think any fears of this game already being mastered by an elite few are rather unfounded.

To be honest this is perhaps the best multiplayer FPS I've played on the 360. I'm not quite sure if it's a better "game" than some of my favorites in the genre but every match I've played has been good to amazing.

I have no complaints outside of the usual "expensive/no singleplayer". So far it's been a pretty flawless experience.

I'm sure Team Fortress 2 will kill it dead but eh.

i would agree with this. I also don't think that the game in general is as hardcore as a lot of journalists have made it seem.

What else could be "The best multiplayer fps on 360? Shadowrun has it down right now despite all the hate. Halo 3 will kill it for sure but for now, Shadowrun is the best multiplayer first-person shooter for 360. And it should be given it's concept.

Anyway I just had a 24-6 game at Poco as an Elf with Smoke and Glider. Most all of my kills were with the SMG, a few with the Katana. Well and a few with grenades. My team won 6-1.

And I tried out the burst thing with the Rifle. It's pretty effective close up but you definitely have to know when and when not to use it.

And...This thread will reach 2K!

I cannot get into this game, and I'm really kicking myself for purchasing it...:(

The gunplay is just so...empty? Nothing feels like it has any kick to it, but oh well.

Are you using smartlink? Because that seems necessary if gunplay is your thing.

Hell I always found gusting people into a wall and emptying an entire SMG round into them to be pretty satisfying.

I don't know if I agree with that, smartlink isn't absolutely necessary for gunplay but it helps. I fare more or less just as well without it as I do with it.

Yeah I personally don't like it, because its such a pain to have to keep turning it on and off so you won't give yourself away. It just seems like a no-brainer if gunplay is your main tactic.

I think Halo fans are used to a game that is 100% skill based, it doesnt surprise me that alot of them hate it. Shadowrun isnt about who can aim the best while jumping up and down across the screen. Its about proper planning/teamwork and playing smart.

How can you make a FPS and someone with better aim not be a dominate force? I'm sure it's fun with a group of friends that work together, I don't have that though, and random tards on Live sure haven't showcased any teamwork in the games I've played. :P

I have found myself liking the way they did the aiming and reticule. I think it is because in some ways it feels more realistic. No one can aim their guns as exact as someone in Counterstrike can. It's just not possible. I like how it is a little more random and unpredictable in shadowrun.

Oh and I should mention that no one should listen to me in this thread.

My copy still hasn't arrived =\
Just playing the demo.

I hope it gets here tomorrow >.<

FPS games dont have to be about who can aim better than who. Its not like Shadowrun is the first to lessen that aspect either. Battlefield 2, another one of my favorites, has a similar setup. I dont think I could ever go back to Halo 3 multiplayer, I prefer it this way.

Ramirez said:
Eh, whatever does it for you I guess...I prefer skill based as you said over a random expanding crosshair, etc.

Well that's the thing, I wouldn't really call it 'random'. At least to me it seems like a natural development.

Don't buy weapons, just use your pistol. You can easily help assist your team in winning with things like "Tree of Life" ,"Ressurect", "Strangle", and "summon Minion".

Shadowrun is a game where you don't have to be great with your weapon aim to be effective, as long as you buy stuff that helps support your team.

Of course bad teammates are bad teammates in any online FPS.

I nearly always wind up in the top three for money, even though I rarely have the most kills. Alot of people don't seem to get that this game rewards team play. The guy running around rezzing people is more important than the super sniper. The guy on raid who buys strangle first helps the team more than the guy who spends his cash on an SMG in the first round. I've seen guys with 20+ kills who don't understand why their team keeps losing. Duh, it's because your team isn't rezzing players and working together.

I normaly play a support character

First round - Res
Second round - smoke / teleport depending on conditions
Third round - Tree of life
Fourth round summon

I normaly get money from friends and also have a huge res count to pad my purchases.

After that depending on if the other team has alot of gust users i will buy teleport and stop using smoke . I will also then start playing with weapons but mainly for support. I am normaly a dwarf or elf , humans and trolls don't do well as a support character
