Sharing an External HDD between a Wii U, PS3, and 360. Can it be done GAF?

I have a Wii U and a Seagate 2TB External HDD and plan on adding a 12GB PS3 Super Slim (think it is) and a 4GB 360 (the newest one) to my collection very soon.

I would LOVE to not have to buy two more External HDDs if I can help it. I've heard it's not really possible to share a HDD, but maybe it can be done? Or some kind of work around?

What say you GAF?

Pretty sure the Wii U formats the whole drive, so I doubt it's possible... not with the Wii U at least. No idea about PS3/360 though.

Maybe if you partition it first?

Wait a configured Wii U external HDD can't even be used with another Wii U? Is that to protect digital games you have on it maybe?

360 will only use up so much space. 16gb, I think. You can still use the drive as long as you don't mess with the container it creates on the drive. On PS3 you can just drop the files on the hard drive but not everything.

So I have a 12GB PS3 now and I bought a 500GB portable HDD with it.

I'm trying to figure out how to use it.

I have a self-powered 2TB HDD with my Wii U and I feel I want to trade the harddrives, as my PS3 will need the larger space.

My Wii U wouldn't recognize the portable one, the drive just kept clocking when it was searching for it, and I'm trying to figure out if you can even use an external drive on a PS3 to store all those PSN downloads period.

Help. :(

You have to install the HDD internally for PS3 anyway

It's dumb that Sony consoles don't support external hard drives for games

Hmm, upon some searching, looks like this is the one to get?

Same price (if the 25% extra off applies) and same size. The super slim has the same physical sized HDD as every PS3 right? I'm looking at the GameSpot how-to on replacing the HDD:
