SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

That probably won't help much at this point. Maybe news about Shenmue HD would boost it beyond 6-7 millions.

The only big things that would give it a significant boost are if Shenmue HD is announced or if it's announced for Xbox One. Can't really think of anything else really. Add-ons would be nice though. A lot of people have been asking for it as they want both PC and PS4 versions.

i'm not sure just news will do much either. add ons could at least see people on lower tiers doubling or at least adding another $29 to their pledges to get another copy

It wouldn't be too difficult at all though. You can just take snapshots of them as a turnaround to use as reference when modeling. Or you can use the scultps if they were still available. Yu seems to have a different idea about how they can surpass those models, which I still think are really good and not too anime, but look specific to Japan and China culturally (save for Chai or a couple others)

Has anyone ever seen The Wanderers? Don Niu always looked like he could have been influenced by King Kong Bundy's character in it.

well yeah, they can LOOK at them and recreate them. haha
but people are saying they should just "use" the old models. my point was maybe the format they're stored in isn't supported by unreal.

The models themselves most likely are fine. Its the texture work that would need to be redone or touched up. UE4 uses a PBR rendering system. That requires maps they just dont have(Roughness and metalness maps among other things)

Edit: Since it was dreamcast era they might not have baked out Normal maps or height maps. They would need to get the source high poly models and bake out new maps for it.

It's not impossible to pull and modify the high quality models and get the into UE4. Maybe they forgot about the still very decent Passport heads, or didn't want to do it that way.

regardless, fretting over models for a game not even in active development yet is pointless. it won't look a thing like the concept trailer at release.

Right. As long as it looks like the same charcter in the end, though it would've been nice for the reveal. I remember marveling at those slowly turning heads on disc 4.

i think we'll see something before the end of the year. then more at MAGIC in feb next year.

I hope you're right. I want to see how this game shapes up throughout the next two years. I haven't had this kind of excitement since the first two Shenmue titles. I still remember taking all day (or days) to download small, low quality videos on my computer of Shenmue over dial up before the game was out. I couldn't get enough of this game.

Also remember a cool preview video of Shenmue 2 where they didn't show much of the game, but Yu went over the improvements they made to the engine from Shenmue 1. Don't think it got much attention since much of the gaming world was so focused on the PS2. May have been part of some game show or event, hardly remember now.

If their sensible they'll go dark until the game is almost done. They don't want backers to start making unhappy noises becoming the games main story.

They can give small updates ofc to backers but I think keeping it very quiet is best with all the circumstances.

i'd be happy with updates being more geared towards what the development story is like rather than how the game is looking on X month.

not sure if everybody feels the same though

Yeah it seems Suzuki is relatively sensitive to keeping story spoilers to a minimum although I would have prefered to have been kept in the dark regarding
Chai's supposed return
.

It's going to require a lot of willpower not to soak up every little detail as its released.

That poll shouldve avoided Ryo. Of course everyone will pick him! I picked "other", and put his dad there because I want some good flashback scenes with him in it.

Extra scene with him doesn't make sense if the game is about him.

I wish i didnt know as much as I do already about the game, kind of bothered by it, but its unusual circumstances to get it made so Ill allow it for 4 more days then going in the dark so hard.

Wow, that was honestly my first time seeing emulated footage of the games. It looked incredible in 1080p and 60 fps.

Now I really can't wait to play remastered versions.

This popped up on my Youtube recommended list. I thought it was cute. A Little Moldovan girl confronting Mai and her friends.

It's great to see a new generation embracing Shenmue. Speaking of new fans my own girlfriend took an interest in me playing through Shenmue 1 recently to the point of abandoning her shitty mobile games and chucking me off my DC. The sudden revival of the Shenmue franchise can have its drawbacks. :(

It's pretty reasonable to assume this will be the biggest funded game on kickstarter, but I highly doubt it will reach anywhere near 10 million, which is sad, considering it's the budget needed for the "real" version. I put in for the 500$ tier myself.

$5M will allow Yu to do the thing he's always wanted to do. 10 or 11 will make the game immense but it is no less a Shenmue game at $5M. Honestly, Shenmue isn't an open world in the same sense we use the term nowadays and I think that it's better off with a smaller world they're able to put more detail into. Feature creep might detract from making Shenmue 3 special in the same way 1 and 2 were.

Shake-shake your friends for more pledges...

Difference between "feature creep" and "scaled scope" is that the former is simply adding on top of the design and the other has a default design but fluctuates depending on the resources they have. At 2 million minimum, this is the lowest their scope is possible to push the basic core game features to bring the story from A to B.

Perhaps feature creep is a bit strong. I believe that Yu will be able to accomplish his vision of Shenmue 3 regardless of the budget. I just think it's wrong to dwell on numbers like 10M or 11M that were never going to be reached through crowdfunding. I would like for us to get battle system tweaks but as long as we reach the character perspective system, I will consider the campaign a success.

It's great to see that we gained so much even though we lost a lot of high tiers. Here's to some rich motherfuckers snagging them up.

Updated Chart, will be updated/posted at the end of each day for the final 3/4 days of tracking.
