Transformers star may join Charlotte Gainsbourg in Lars von Trier's forthcoming explicit drama

Shia LaBeouf, star of the blockbuster Transformers films, is in talks to join Lars von Trier's sexually explicit drama Nymphomaniac, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Having announced last year that he will no longer appear in Michael Bay's action series about warring giant robots, LaBeouf has made a definite diversion into higher-brow fare. He will also star in Robert Redford's upcoming The Company You Keep and John Hillcoat's prohibition era gangster flick Lawless, the latter alongside Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Mia Wasikowska, Guy Pearce and Jessica Chastain.

LaBeouf's role in Nymphomaniac is unclear, but he will presumably be studying Von Trier's screenplay with curiosity given the film's salacious reported synopsis. Charlotte Gainsbourg is set to play the lead, a woman who reveals her entire sexual history from childhood to middle age to an older bachelor played by Stellan Skarsgård. Von Trier is promising to release Nymphomaniac in softcore and hardcore versions.

"Lars wants to see the sexual arousement of a girl [on screen]," the Danish film-maker's producer and business partner Peter Aalbæk Jensen told The Guardian last year. "If Lars wants to make explicit sex scenes in the film, he also has to make a version that can be shown on TV in Europe. He has accepted that." It is understood the softcore version will be aimed at more mainstream cinemas, while those who yearn for the full, uncut Von Trier experience will be directed towards the hardcore version.

Nymphomaniac is hardly the first Von Trier project to attract controversy for its explicit subject matter. Antichrist (2009) featured a scene in which Gainsbourg's character takes scissors to her own clitoris, while Nicole Kidman played a collared sex slave in his 2003 movie Dogville. The Australian actor said in a recent interview that she expects to take a small role in Nymphomaniac, her first film with Von Trier in nearly a decade.

Child-actor-turned-penis-model Shia LaBeouf will be having for-real sex in Lars von Trier's upcoming film Nymphomaniac, according to the actor himself.

"It is what you think it is," the former Disney star told MTV. "There's a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says, we're doing it for real. And anything that is 'illegal' will be shot in blurred images. But other than that, everything is happening."

LaBeouf's co-stars Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe previously appeared together in von Trier's 2009 film Antichrist, which featured an unsimulated sex scene between two porn stars.

Other well-known mainstream films featuring unsimulated sex acts include 2006's Shortbus, and 2003's The Brown Bunny, which contains an infamous fellatio scene between Vincent Gallo and then-(maybe)-girlfriend Chloë Sevigny.

Nymphomaniac, which will be broken up into two parts, follows the sexual development of a woman (Gainsbourg) from birth to adulthood. Stellan Skarsgård and Nicole Kidman have also been tapped to star.

Me either...

I enjoyed the very beginning (though it could have been a bit faster) and the very end. The rest of it was completely uninteresting. I'm pretty sure the planet was the protagonist because by the end I was cheering for it...

I have no idea how I feel about this. Probably the same way I would feel about a Terrance Malick version of Transformers.

Though if Malick did Transformers like he did Thin Red Line . . . holy shit, we have a winner.

I`ve always wanted a great movie
(not saying this will be, just talking in general)
that has the balls to shows actual intercourse between its main characters.

A true artistic porn film if you will. Not that it has to be porn, or show the action for too long , but just to give it honesty and more realism. I`ve always been curious.


LaBeouf is still a horrible actor though. I`m waiting to see if my perception can be altered.

Agreed. The beginning coulda went anywhere, but it was great to watch her character. Very end was awesome..

As a whole, it was just fuuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh..

Taking on possibly his most mature role yet, Shia LaBeouf has confirmed that for his upcoming flick, The Nymphomaniac, nothing is off limits, including the script's real sex scenes.

"[The movie] is what you think it is," LaBeouf, 26, told MTV News on Wednesday about the Lars von Trier-directed flick. "For instance, there's a disclaimer at the top of the script that basically says we're doing it for real. Everything that is illegal, we'll shoot in blurred images. Other than that, everything is happening."

Added the former Disney Channel star of his willingness to do the controversial role, "[Von Trier] is very dangerous. He's the most dangerous dude that I've ever showed up for. I'm terrified. I'm so terrified, which is why I have to go. We'll see what happens."

Von Trier, who also directed the 2011 drama Melancholia starring Alexander Skarsgard and Kirsten Dunst, plans to create two versions of the film -- one explicit, one less X-rated. The Nymphomaniac will follow a woman who "discovers her hidden erotic desires," and according to IMDB.com, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg have already signed on.

This wouldn't be LaBeouf's first foray in full-frontal nudity. The actor bared it all in Icelandic indie band Sigur Ros' new music video for "Fjogur Piano."

I liked Melancholia so I'll keep an eye on this.

ehh and I don't hate Shia like many do, I can respect that he wants to grow as an actor by taking more challenging roles.

Shia LaBoeuf is the anti Joseph Gordon Leavitt. JGL plays Cobra Commander, and people still consider him a credible actor (which he is). Shia LaBoeuf gets to work with VonTrier, and people laugh about him showing off his...Boeuf. :)

I've always liked Shia. Never been butthurt because he got to be Indy's son like many were. So, yeah, I love Von Trier's work and I'll be happy to check this out.

I don't know why I'd possible want to see Shia LaBeouf doing it with a porn star, but I do hope other movie directors follow in Lars von Trier's footsteps
