Insane is a legal term of art. Mental illness is a medical and psychological determination. "Not mentally sound" is basically just a synonym for "dangerous" in situations like this.

Laughable. They (police) openly talked about shooting this guy on the scanner several times. Only reason he didn't get killed is because they couldn't seem to get a clear shot and he gave up as they were moving in.
Doesn't mention the killing babies comment he made though.
I guess those incidences of police brutality and killings on film don't count as having cameras present?

This is the SWAT team we're talking about here. Not some trigger happy Joe Buck cop.
I think the thing that saved his life was the person hiding on the phone with the police. On the radio the dispatch women said the hostage reports the suspect just said "Ok you win, I'll be coming out with my hands up". It's only because that person hiding relayed the information that the police knew. They could also see him on camera. Then the police repeated that the suspect is going to surrender. The dispatcher may have made a mistake but I'm sure she said hostage.

I think it needs to be noted that people need to talk more about the women involved when someone goes to shoot up a PP. It's already enough with protestors and stalkers, but a woman can't get basic care in the United States of America without having to worry about dodging gunfire.

They would have done thier job either way. I objected to him/her saying he wouldn't have been killed. I think he should have been killed not for his skin but the actions he did plus leaving him alive gives him more press for his agenda

If there's any other situation I would compare this to that involved a black man it would be the Christopher Dorner situation, where he was killed by police after a prolonged standoff, but even that scenario was different as he had made clear his intentions to kill as many police officers as possible, he had barricaded himself with weapons and he had taken shots at officers in the process.

The very first thing I want to know when they find out who he is is:
1) How did he get his weapons, and how long did he have them?
2) Does he have a history of mental illness, domestic abuse, violence, or prior felonies.
If the answers to those are "recently" and "yes to one or more", then this will be yet another shooting that did not have to happen in this country.

1. The comment I facetiously made is the exact same profiling that occurs any other time, without any awareness on the part of the people who say it.
2. Don't just blame this on mental health problems. It could be that the guy is of sound mind and instead really hates PP clinics and some of the procedures they do. In which case my facetious comment may actually be correct.

I'm in almost every police thread and I'm as critical as anyone, but on this one they did a great job. The were calm and cool on the radio, the whole situation was very in control and fuck it was incredible intense Even when that guy made that load bang, I thought it was a gun shot. The radio went silent then the some one came on and said "That sound you heard was a shield falling" it might not have been shield it was hard to hear but somebody dropped something or knocked something over. There was no panic, the lead guy just calmly said we need to control all sound in there. They were professional during the whole thing. This is not a situation they should be getting shit on, they did a hell of a job.
