Should I buy multiplats on PC or PS4?

I'm genuinely stuck on this one. Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4, and Battlefield 4 are all in my plan for next gen launch. With the guarantee of the FPS I want being 60 frames per second on console, I seriously need to weigh the benefits of each option.

For PS4:

Owning a Vita - remote play, if it works well, is a huge plus for me as I have 3 roommates and sharing the TV can get annoying.

Where my friends play - pretty much all of my friends are getting PS4s and few of them have capable PCs.

Streaming on Twitch - I absolutely love streaming my games, and it's a pain in the ass to run a quality PC stream.

For PC:

Graphics - I'm a bit of a graphics whore and I know my 580 and 4Ghz i5 will do well enough to outperform or match the PS4 for the next few years. I only play at 1080p.

Controls - I much prefer keyboard and mouse for first person games.

Modding and tweaking - pure joy for me. I love having as much control over my games as possible.

I'm torn.

Singleplayer FPS = PC
Singleplayer games expected to have a great modding community = PC
Other singleplayer games = PS4
Multiplayer games = PS4

Though Vita Remote Play needs to be tried by users first to see if there's minimal lag etc.
While for graphics alone it could become a case-by-case basis, especially in the second/third year (PS4 versions might look/run better because they are more optimized that what you will manage with your current PC specs, unless you upgrade etc.).

Even if his friends play on the PS4? That's pretty dumb.

You get the best version of the game no matter what. Why sacrifice yourself and play the vastly inferior version of a game just because some friends have it.

Not to mention half the time the mp version on pc is not event he same as on consoles.

COD, Battlefield etc are all examples not to mention mp modes when you factor in mods.

child please, vastly inferior? Vastly inferior? Vastly inferior?
Because you can play that version at 120fps with a zomg 500$? So PS4 games are vastly inferior? PS4 will max out all those recent "PC Ultra settings" for a while, as it should be. Prepare to upgrade in one or two years to have your zomg hardware capable of 120fps with everything at 4K (but underutilized in 99% of case).

(child please is stucked in 360/PS3 days forever or what?)

Double-dip on MP games, so you can get the graphics you desire whenever your friends are around, but you can still play with your buddies whenever. A little bit more expensive, sure, but still a viable option.

Playing games at 1440p or higher with the best possible image quality and stable frame rate.
Graphics options console games can only wish to have such as field of view sliders and super sampling.
Being able to use any controller or control method that I want. Dualshock 4, xbox one controller , xbox 360 controller, full on 300 dollar military spec joystick and throttle etc.
Open platform where the community develops free content for the game thus expanding the games longevity for years.

On top of this all the games are much cheaper.

How can you not call this vastly superior ?

If you have a good pc then pc. More powerful, free online,

Also wait for steam sales and never pay the kind of prices new consola are trying to sting you for.

Both? PC for single player games, and PS4 for Multi? If you have to chose one than probably side with your friends. I'm thinking about getting a PS4 to play some games like CoD and KZ with my cousin but the pay wall for multiplayer means I probably won't. I guess you can play with some gafers on PC.

Playing Battlfield without friends = no/less fun.

I'll play with a bad framerate and resolution before i play that game without friends.

Supposedly that BF4 on the PS4 is actually 720p and is upscaled to 1080p.

PC

Pay more for the hardware, get the games virtually for free via sales, bundles, re-releases, discounts, etc. Games like Tomb Raider, Dark Souls, DMC, Remember Me, etc. were all half-price (or less) on PC within two months (or less).

I'd buy my all my multiplats on PC if it weren't for UPlay/Origin. Both launchers screw with Steam's Big Picture Mode which is how I prefer to play most PC games. So yeah, I'll probably buy Watchdogs and NFS: Rivals on PS4 instead.

"Hey childplease, are you joining us on Battlefield tonight? We'll have a laugh, catch up on the latest and shoot some dudes!"

"No. I will be playing Battlefield, but I'll be playing it on my own. I didn't buy the vastly inferior version that you guys did, I refuse to make such sacrifices"

"Child, please".

For me the choice depends on things other than the hardware.

- Controller
- UI
- Online

Same for me, I simply don't care if I'm playing an inferior version, provided it isn't broken. It's pretty obvious that if you want pure performance, play on PC, with a nice rig.

I'd recommend PC all day but let me ask my friends and family about it. I already did and none of them would want it on PC. The ease of consoles is why they sell so much and console versions of multiplats have outsold PC for years.

That doesn't magically make the PC version inferior but the convenience and ease of a console kind of speaks for itself vs PC when it comes to the mass market.

I buy COD: Ghost, BF4, Watch Dogs for Xbox One. :)

Best controller, best online service.

Not everyone has the time, technical knowledge, finance and give a fuck to be a PC gamer.

FWIW, I think the immediate suspend and resume features of the PS4 (and I think the xbone does this too) are enough for me to go for that version over the PC version. No need to relaunch the game, sit through loading screens, then loading the save, etc. just way more convenient than current consoles or the PC now.

Plus, I think I'd need to upgrade my vid card (6950 AMD) to get appreciably better performance on my PC than the PS4. On current gen games, it can struggle to hit 60 fps unless I set resolutions to 720p and put a lot of settings on low/med. I don't want to fiddle with settings anymore.

I'd say there's reasons for someone to go for PS4 versions instead of PC versions even if their PC is decent.

PC, because if it's broken, the fans will fix it.

Don't be as sure since some PC games are pretty "closed" in that regard. BUT there is cool programs for BF3 that help you extend the fov and such so I can hope for the same treatment on PC. The 90 fov was satisfactory enough though.

I've been thinking the same thing (though on a larger scale of 'PS4 or save money for a PC upgrade in a year or two'). Don't think many of my friends are going to bother with a new console for quite a while. Franchise burnout has gone overtime in the past 18 months.

What I do miss is having friends that play together. Struggling to find a decent group of people to play with on PC. Consoles do that well (especially 360 with Live; cost aside it was ruddy brilliant looking back). So to answer your question, if you're 110% getting a PS4 you might as well get multiplayer games there if you don't mind the paywall. Alternatively, I'm sure you could find people here to make a squad on BF4. Will probably need to do the same myself.

It's a good time to have options.

In addition to the graphical differences from day one, in 5 years I'll be playing those PC versions in 4k at locked 60fps+ with ludicrous IQ enhancements attached, plus any fan made mods that happen to be made. For that reason I'll buy the PC version, because the product gets better as time goes on.

Probably PC if you don't car about Trophies or have PSN friends you want to play with.

I'm not convinced that Vita remote play will be good for anything but games that don't require much use of L2/R2.

Reading this thread, I'm happy that 90% of the people I know in real life who are gamers play on PC. I wouldn't want to have to choose between them and the superior version.

This has repercussions for PC gamers as well.

If a 7850+ GPU can only run it at 720p/60fps (at whatever graphical setting), a GTX 580 isn't running the game at the same graphical quality as PS4 at 1080p/60fps.

I want to be able to resell, so PS4 for me. If I factor in the reselling of the game, PC is only cheaper a year down the road usually (for most titles) and I don't like waiting that long for games. I know some do, but I'm a day 1 kind of guy for the big hitters I'm interesting in. For example, GTA V, there is no way I could wait for PC/PS4/XB1 versions.

EDIT: Plus, 0 of my friends play on the PC, read what bomblord typed and it means a lot.

I'm going PS4, at least early on

- convenience of a console
- hardly discernable graphical differences (for the most part --- especially compared to my setup)
- I only have a GTX570 right now and don't want to upgrade it
- all games support console
- I enjoy the console online experience much more
- I have a Vita
- Streaming/Social hooks
- resale ability

Friends and community is much more important than any possible graphical, framerate or any other possible improvement.

You could never replicate a moment in playing a game with a friend. Adding 30 extra fps is not worth missing those moments with your friends where one of you tosses a knife randomly in the air and gets the final kill in a call of duty match and you bust out laughing and talk about it for days on end. A few extra particles cannot replicate the joy of lining up the headshot on your friend and gloating on him for the rest of the match for how easily you took him down. 1080p will not make you feel better than being able to jump into a game with your friend and somehow still have fun with it even though you've been burnt out on it for a while. Saving $10 will not ever match the joy of community and sense of comradeship you get from playing with people you know nor will it even come close to replicating how much more thoroughly you get sucked into and enjoy a game while playing it with close (or even not so close) friends.

TLDR: You get more fun from playing with close or even not so close friends and having a sense of community and comradeship than an extra 30fps could ever give you.

Funny, both my BL accounts have friends lists that are maxed out. I thought you can't make friendz on the PCs. And they cost $5000 of course.

Well we also don't know what else they turned down on PS4 version. DICE said the specs to run BF4 are similar to BF3.

Plus, funny enough, I was playing BF3 on my old ass 2008 Mac and 285GTX on medium settings at almost 60 fps for a few months before I decided to buy new rigs. Hell, my friend is playing on 6600 GT alibet at 30 and a lot of custom .ini tweaks. The power of PC gaming.

I'm planning a big PC upgrade for the end of next year (saving saving saving!) so in the meantime I'm going to pick up a lot of multiplat stuff on PS4 where I think my current PC might struggle, unless perhaps, it's something I think I'll want to play time and again down the line.

PC all the way. Especially with the BF4 PS4 news. I'm running BF3 at 1080p and I'm getting over 75 average. Lowest I've seen is 63 and highest is 112. So yeah I think I'll stick to that for BF4.

Ass flag is one that could go either way. Their PC versions usually suck.

It will run fine on pc. If you could run BF3 you will be able to run BF4. You might have to crank down some settings perhaps but playing at 1080p or higher is worth it.

720p is so low res.
