Should I get Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on 3ds or Wii U?

If you have real life friends who want to play, get it on 3DS so you can play with them (its a fucking blast)

Otherwise get the Wii U version for the online

Wii U for online and HD. The 3DS port is pretty stunning though, same content and it runs beautifully, but after 60 hours of solo play it was time to upgrade myself. Once I purchased a Wii U and started co-op, I never have looked back.

Still a bummer that MH4U is not getting a Wii U port.

The Wii U version looks a lot more colorful and has online play, but 3DS is portable. So basically get whichever one suits your needs more.

(Or be like me and get both.)

edit: or post at the same time as me. that's cool too!

I have both and the wii u version is by the better gaming experience.

i was heavily into portable mh on psp etc, however since they brought it to wii and wii u its been hard going back to single stick gaming on nintendos small screen system.

i find the gaming experiences of toukiden and soul sacrifice better on vita due to the hardware capability, despite thinking monster hunter is the superior game across the board.

so im a little disappointed that the new mh wont be on wii u :(

3DS is good for taking to the pub to play with your friends. And it has better framerate.

But yeah, I like the Wii U version better.

I just got MH3U for the Wii U (after putting like, 100+ hours into the Wii version years ago) and it's a pretty great update except....

How the hell did this game go through playtesting with everyone saying "yes, this text size isn't too small whatsoever, it is perfectly acceptable and should be brought into mass production."
Seriously I pretty much have to play this exclusively on my Gamepad in order to read anything.

Capcom obviously didn't want to take the time to fully re-create the UI for the higher resolution screen. I run into this sort of thing somewhat often playing PC games on a 1600p monitor.

You will be kicking yourself when MH4 comes out next year and you don't even bother with MH3 again if you get the 3DS version. Getting the Wii U version and then MH4 will allow you to play MH on two systems, both with online play.

MH3 on the Wii U on the other hand has improved HD visuals, better controls, fun online play, and better made for the system in my opinion (swimming controls are much more viable with an actual controller).

MH3 on the Wii U was the reason I jumped on the system earlier last year and it really carried the system for me during the long drought without games. Now that the Wii U library is more fleshed out this is less of an issue, but it's still in the top 5 games currently on the system in my opinion.

Haven't played it on the 3DS, but I have it on the Wii U and it plays well. I don't think I had any issues with it, and I liked it quite a bit.

The Circle Pad Pro helps.

Get the Wii U version. I double dipped and ended up playing with online friends from my 3DS using the online relay tool. But its clunky. Might as well get it on Wii U anyway.

Do you have a circle pad pro and 2-3 friends with the game on 3DS that you can play with locally on a regular basis?

If not, Wii U version. Actually in that case I'd get both and transfer the character between them. The game is so much better on a big screen, playing online on a comfy couch/bed/whatever.

I got the WiiU version as the free MK game. My first Monster Hunter, and I'm enjoying it, but I've just been doing village quests because I fear I have no idea what I'm doing and everyone will hate me online, haha

Something to keep in mind is that if you're playing with people locally, the only way to do it across systems is for 3DS players to connect to the Wii U player, so there can only be one Wii U in the party.

If you have anyone who's up for playing it with you then go with 3DS for the local multiplayer. In any other event I'd give the Wii U version the nod, online can fill the local multiplayer gap and generally it's easier to play with the bigger screen and with more control options by which I specifically mean the ever useful second stick.

I loved owning both games. If you have friends with 3DSes (or Wii Us) who also play the game, then both is the way to go. If you don't really know anyone who plays MonHun, then Wii U for the online.

I have 3 friends who bought MH and a 3ds each, while I got it on Wii U. We've been getting together and playing every couple of nights. Being able to coop with both versions is super awesome. But of course for every good thing Capcom does, there's a step back somewhere. Not being able to play online with the 3ds version is a big bummer.

Which reminds me, I'm really disappointed that MH4 isn't coming to WiiU.

Anyway, if you don't have friends irl with a 3ds I'd go with the Wii U version.

I haven't played much online yet, but most people I have met were pretty nice. I don't like to text chat in this game, but most people seem to do that.
