"Quit" in the sense that I will no longer bother to upgrade my PC for the purpose of playing the latest games.
In light of many events that have happened over the last few recent years and a change in my playing habits, I've been contemplating heading back to consoles. Instead of going into details, I'll just get to the main points.
Arguments for:
1. I'm absolutely bored to tears with the FPS genre. Practically the only two FPS games I play any more are DOOM II and HALO for multiplayer (I would still be playing Half-life multiplayer if Valve didn't do away with the WON network). The last two FPS games I bought were DOOM 3 and Half-life 2 which, while were great games, I really didn't enjoy them too much because there were no real surprises in the gameplay.
2. I've discovered that I hate real-time strategy games. When I bought StarCraft, I played through it and then quit at the start of the Protoss campaign. I tried playing it again some years later, only to quit again at the same point. The same thing happened with WarCraft 3. When I first bought it, I played straight through up to the beginning of the Night Elf campaign, then I quit. I reinstalled it recently and played all the way through again only to end up quitting at the same spot. Then I realized I was only playing these games for the story/characters and not because I liked the gameplay.
3. The majority of my game time over the past two years have been spent on console emulators, console to PC ports(Tony Hawk, Silent Hill 2 - 4, HALO, etc.), MAME, and consoles(when I owned them). I bought a used GCN to play Metroid Prime, Ikaruga, and Resident Evil remake + RE4. I also bought a used PS2 to play Viewtiful Joe, Final Fantasy X, and MGS2. I sold both consoles promptly after beating all the games. The only reason I didn't keep them is because I usually have a habit of limiting myself to one platform so I can get the most out of it. At the time, PC was my main gaming platform.
4. I can literally count on my hand the games on my "must buy" list for at least the next four years. Oblivion, NWN2, Diablo 3, Baldur's Gate 3, and Fallout 3. I know my PC can handle Oblivion and NWN2, but in the event my PC won't be able to handle those other future games, I don't think they would justify building a new rig.
Arguments against:
1. As I mentioned in 4 above, there's still some games I'd really like to play, but I'm not really sure if it would be worth the hassle of upgrading should those couple of games require upgrades.
2. I have a love/hate relationship with MMORPGs. I like to play them off and on; usually two months in a row. Then I'll start hating the game for some reason, quit, and then come back to play for another two months, six months later.
3. I'm a fan of games based off of D&D and the Forgotten Realms. PCs are the king for these types of games.
---------------------
Though I started out on consoles(Atari 2600), I always, did a little PC gaming on the side. I only went PC-only a little bit before the end of the PSOne era because I became bored with consoles after playing them for so long. I thought I hated console gaming, but as it turns out, I just needed to take some time off from them to recharge my batteries.
While console gaming and PC gaming have done a bit of merging over the years, they're still two separate flavors. Since I jumped the gun too quick by quitting consoles assuming I would never look back, I've built an appetite for both flavors. Now I'm torn between two worlds and can't seem to choose between them.
Give me some advice!

BTW, how much do you think my PC game collection would fetch on eBay? I figured if I did head back to consoles, I'd use them to fund my purchases.
