Should I watch The Godfather Part III?

Sophia and Smirk Garcia aside the acting is top notch. It feels a bit like a victory lap/epilogue but I think this is Michael Corleone´s at its most interesting.

no

the first and second are perfect together and the third ruins the dynamic and was more or less just a cash grab for francis ford coppola to get past the funding issues that had plagued him since apocaylpse now

It actually is a bad movie. The acting sucks, Pacino is well into his parody phase by this point, and the whole script is just ill-conceived. It's not worth watching on its own merits and especially not as part of the trilogy.

Now that I think about it, Talia Shire was also terrible.

She was bad in all three though.

Have we found the exact moment where Pacino evolved into his second form?

Scarface

The hate for Part 3 is mostly exaggerated. It's not a bad movie, but it doesn't compare to the other 2.

It's a terrible movie even if you don't compare it to its predecessors. It's badly written, directed and acted. It was a cynical attempt by Coppola to cash in due to his own financial troubles (he's admitted as much) and a vehicle to push yet another one of his relatives into stardom.

No, she was fine in the first two. She excelled in awfulness in the third one though, and they turned her into something completely different. One could say it's due to aging, or whatever, but it was still way off. Playing Godmother was not in her. It was was like, we don't have Tom, so we need to compensate.

There's Pre-Scarface Pacino and Post-Scarface Pacino

Kinda like Pre-Crisis Superman/post-Crisis Superman

i don't remember any overacting in the insider. that was actually a rather restrained performance, was it not?

not entirely sure about sea of love, but i don't think he was overacting there either.

Yeah, Talia Shire's character transformation in 3 was one of the worst written parts of the script.

No, The Insider is a great film and it has one of my favorite Pacino performances(and Russell Crowe's best, for what thats worth).

He doesn't go over the top ALL the time, but there's the Pacino from Scent of a Woman/The Devil's Advocate/Any Given Sunday and there's the one from the Godfather I/II/Serpico/Dog Day Afternoon and they seem to be two completely different people. Like, he's developed an Al Pacino persona after awhile and he slips into pretty often.

when i hear him calling spacey a "stupid fucking cunt" in glengarry glen ross, i'm overcome by a sense of pleasure.

It's not that bad, it's just unnecessary. It doesn't matter if you watch it or not.

Sofia Coppola is one of the worst actresses of all-time though and is by far the largest source of the shittines contained in the movie.

Imagine if we could have had Nic Cage as Vincent instead of Garcia.

No actor could have salvaged that part. One of the movie's central plot lines revolved around cousinfucking... seriously.

imagine a world where, say, this woman is your cousin:

would you not at least consider the possibility

No, The Insider was pretty fantastic, but kinda the exception to the rule as far as post-Scarface Pacino goes.

I've enjoyed the third one so many times. It's hard for me to watch because everything is coming together and what not. It would be cool if they went back and did a proper one that actually had thought though.

I think you should watch it and enjoy it.

LOL at people still saying TDKR isn't good as TDK.

I remember liking baby boy Garcia in this and saw the potential in a proper Godfather 4 (or his own spin-off). This movie also gave us Raekwon's Immobilarity.

It's bad, I haven't been able to finish it. Bad script and multiple seems that seem straight out of a generic mob flick. The helicopter scene is like the icing on a bloated, over the top cake.

IIRC the original idea was for it to be Michael v Tom, with Michael's son playing a major role as a US senator.
