Should we neuter our cat?

cats on a leash are so weird.

Why is it weird?

My cat loves it but we live in an area it is not safe for him to be outside alone in and without a leash he might run into the road. He doesn't mind the leash and will happily walk down the road. We live on a corner so normally only walk him down the dead end street next to our house but he will walk just like a dog.

I had a boy cat that was neutered. I had a fuzzy blanket. He'd sometimes jerk off on my leg when I slept with that blanket.

What the fuck was up with that

I think the notion of indoor cats is cruel. Cats want to roam, fight over territory and hunt. My cat goes out all day and to think I would never let her out of the house again feels so cruel.

Sorry I've gone off topic. Yes cut his balls off

It can be super inconsiderate towards your neighbors to let your cat roam. I dig cats. I think they're great. But it's not great that my neighbor's cats are constantly crapping in my yard and hiding under my car or using another neighbors car bumper as a scratching post. That sucks. It's not the cats fault because they're just being cats but man is it beyond frustrating. And there's nothing that can be done about it because they refuse to keep their cats indoors.

Edit: and really the biggest concern I have is the risk of Toxoplasmosis from cat feces. I have to pull weeds and my dog is regularly out in the backyard. I shouldn't have to deal with keeping an eye out for and/or removing cat poop.

This is the only reason I booked them for the operation. However, neither of them are even slightly territorial at the moment which makes me question the decision.

In a couple of months they will turn into raging fapping madmen.

Pet owners who project human emotions or experiences onto their pets just so they won't have to do the responsibile thing (ie: neutering) are being weird.

Neuter/spay them now before bad habits or health problems form.

cat overpopulation is a very real thing that costs countless cat lives over quite short amounts of time

don't take the risk

Just remembered this. but who knows? maybe OP is into that?

But also please get this done before any problems arises, if the cat begins to piss up the place, or get aggressive etc.. Then sometimes it can continue even after nut removal

With the kitten adoption program at the clinic I work for, we make sure if someone is going to adopt a kitten, they must be indoors and we get that in writing as part of our adoption contract.

I work with rescue cats and it's the same for us. We will not adopt to someone who will let the cat outdoors. Same thing goes for declawing. It's an instant refusal.

Neuter yes, but I'm against keeping him indoors only.

He likes getting on the roof and judging other cats from above. I notice he also has a "route" that he likes to patrol on my block, I feel like it's healthy to let him experience the wild like that. He's not a toy or model figurine I have to keep in a shelf.

I guess I'm in the middle ground because I'm for neutering but against having them indoors only.

One of my male cats (all my cats are fixed of course) would try to hump his brothers from time to time. Maybe a few times a year. He hasn't done it in a long time though.

Same one also suckles my shirt from time to time.

I wonder if OP will actually take all this in and neuter his/her cat.
Yeah, I am. He has to wait until we come back from vacation though...

My cat still mows post-neuter. He's also an adult child who requires attention 24 hours a day. I think it's because he's bored at night and because I lock him out of my bedroom. You can try dropping some catnip or toys before bed so he has something to do, or run him with a laser pointer until he's too tired to bother PRAISING THE SUN at 12 am.
HAHAHA oh god, I'm rolling!!

He does it until 3am most of the nights; my sleep pattern is getting so fucked up sigh...

I really doubt we'll ever see him again if we let him out, I don't think he would want to come back [we live in an apartment, there are so many doors he need to go through just to get to our floor]. I am not even sure if he can survive on its own if faced with a hostile cat

The only reason to not neuter is planning to to breed (or maybe some esoteric health obstacle?) Just neuter otherwise.

Healthy until he gets into a fight and develops an abscess or contracts some other feline disease. Outdoor cats are more likely to live fewer years and be not as healthy as their indoor brethren.

Feel free to take the risks of letting your cat out. Just don't say it's cruel to keep a cat indoors. They can have fulfilling lives indoors if you're an attentive owner.

Some cats don't even have a desire to go out or wander. Mine walk around a mostly concrete yard (busy city) sometimes while supervised, and they aren't compelled to go any further than that.

Always spay/neuter your cat. Especially if they're gonna go outside or else someone is gonna get pregnant.

We have a fenced in back yard and let our cats go outside with us. One of our cats enjoys it, and sometimes we even let him go without us. He always stays in the yard. Our other cat only will go outside for a minute or two and then wants right back in. It's kind of a exaggeration to think all cats want to be outside.

Of course, just a couple days after I post this, I caught him humping his brother again just now.
