Shrimp tails.

Am I wrong for eating them? This Tuesday, after watching Girl With The Dragon Tattoo with a few friends, we headed to a nearby Applebee's to eat dinner. One of my friends ordered fried shrimp, and I noticed that she pulled off the shrimp tails before eating her shrimp. I asked her why she didn't eat her shrimp tails, and she gave me a weird look. My other friends also gave me weird looks for asking that question. They told me that they never ate shrimp tails because they considered that part of the shrimp the bone.

But I fucking love shrimp tails. I love crunching on them and swallowing their juicy goodness afterwards.

Am I wrong? Tell me please GAF, because your answer is the most important answer.

Nope! Not wrong at all! That's how we eat them in my family, I kind of just thought other people were weird.

They're crunchy and fun! Why waste a perfectly delicious and edible part of your food?

Either way, shrimps are fucking awesome.

Too bad for people who have allergic reactions from eating them.

Since shrimp have an exoskeleton, the tail part can be considered a "bone." Small fish like sardines though, have bones that are edible because they are soft enough to easily digest. Soft-shelled crap is also in this category. That being said, I'd never a shrimp tail or soft-shelled crab because it would make me feel like a primitive who didn't know any better than to take the meat out of its packaging.

Yeah, I haven't seen a shrimp tail break down quite like some fish tails. Unless you guys got some good stuff I have not seen yet. As far as I know the tail is always straight BONE.

You waste so much of the meat if you don't eat the tail...I just eat them now. Hell if you eat fish you end up eating a lot of small bones anyway, those are way more annoying and you get used to those too.

It's just a shell. It's a bit tough but it doesn't taste or feel bad.

I've always eaten them, at least when fried. People have told me it would puncture my intestines but I never heard of anything like that actually happening. So far I'm fine.

I eat the heads too if they are soft; otherwise I just suck the brains out. And eggs if there are any. Yum.

How do you lose meat? You pull off the tail and then eat the meat, you don't lose any.

I only eat the tail when it's deep fried. I don't see how there is any meat in the tail, unless the bit that usually pulls out with the main shrimp body counts as a part of the tail.

hmm.. so this shell tastes good to you? It's delicious? Or are you trying to save money? Curious, because I have been broke as heck trust me, and I haven't gotten to eating bones.

Jesus why are you so cruel to me

Is it because I don't attend Church on Sundays

Well, you certainly don't appear to have a problem with seafood on tuesdays, so I'd imagine your fridays are open as well.

This avatar is like chum in a shark tank on GAF. I've had it less than an hour.

That is crazy that you bring it up, I was just wondering about this a couple days ago when we had shrimp at a work party. In general, I eat 'em as long as the full shrimp was prepared somehow. Not just like a boiled lame old shrimp, cooked up or fried and flavored in something one way or another. In which case, that's some nice crunchy flavor-eats. YUM.

Naaah it's just too hard to chew :( But I eat the meat that's inside tail though, just peel off the shell.
If it's fried then yeah, why not eat it all ;o

I used to eat the shells of sunflower seeds when I was younger though...haha

Lol this isn't directed at you specifically, but why do people feel the need to tell stories with insignificant plot details? Like how you saw Dragon Tattoo before eating?

That's work. I want to eat my food, not pick at it.

And if it's breaded, you lose the breading...

You sir do not know the art of eating shrimp. You don't have to pick at it to remove the tail from the shell. You hold meat of the shrimp lightly in your teeth and pull the shell off and it instantly goes into your mouth. It's a quick two step process that doesn't waste any extra energy or time.

I don't eat breaded shrimp so I can't really speak on that too much.

I used to do this with breaded shrimp, but only with a ~60% success rate. It's just more trouble than it's worth, compared to 5 extra seconds of chewing.

It's the same thing. You pull the shrimp and breading off while holding the tail intact. Normal people throw the tail away. Don't let the GAF internet make you believe being savage is okay. These guys have no real life whatsoever, apparently. And they try to make you feel like you are wrong for it. Love this place, but some of you guys are ridiculous little children.
