I used to love shrimp/prawns..until i worked on a trawler for a few months and saw what they go thru b4 they get put on your plate so fuck that.

weirdo

who eats the tails of shrimp, it's like eating the shells of sun flower seeds.

I do that...Actually I eat the head of the shrimp plus the whole exoskeleton, I ain't got time to remove that shit.

I like eating shrimp heads.

Fuck yes!

You see these? All of that is going into my mouth, including the legs.

You mean prawns :P

I will peel off the tail shell and eat the contents, but the few times I've accidentally eaten the shell, urgh

Probably mostly an asian thing. I only eat the shell if it's been fried, otherwise it's just too tough to eat. Good source of calcium and potentially lowers cholesterol.

Surely you don't mean the entire shrimp head. I mean, I can understand eating the stuff inside the head, but including the shell and spiky things?

PS. That stuff inside the head is super bad for you. Really high in cholesterol. Same thing goes for eating crab head/brain.

Yuck, I agree with your friends you are a weirdo. The shrimp tail is hard and the texture is horrible and there is like no taste. It's like chewing on a shell basically...blech!!!

Is it edible? Seems a bit harsh man.

Fried shrimp tails are delicious. I know you're supposed to leave the tail on the plate, but ever since I started eating shrimp in restaurants as a kid, I ate the whole thing, and have ever since. I think the tails actually might be nutritious. It's not like eating the shell. The tail is edible. Give it a try.

It's like pan-frying a fish until the little bones are crispy too. Mmm.

Just eat the whole fucking thing. Eat the entire ocean bug dude/girl, then wait a while and poop out the useless bits in the aisle of your local supermarket or gas station. Go home, swim in the septic tank and vote for Ron Paul. Just fucking do it all.

Duck Tales. Fuck.

I love shrimp tails.
Started 10 years ago when I saw a friend of mine eat it and gave it a try.
Was shrimp tempura then but now I eat them all the time.

Love the texture and the crunchiness.

... Woo-hoo?

You sir do not know the art of eating shrimp. You don't have to pick at it to remove the tail from the shell. You hold meat of the shrimp lightly in your teeth and pull the shell off and it instantly goes into your mouth. It's a quick two step process that doesn't waste any extra energy or time.

I don't eat breaded shrimp so I can't really speak on that too much.

Squeeze the tail when you are pulling the meat out and you don't lose anything.

Yes, it's strange. Otherwise you would be eating the shell of the rest of the shrimp and the shell of the lobster as well. Eating the tail is what "southern" types do.

You are in America for Our Lord's Sake. Eat like an American.

Seafood in general is disgusting.

Sorry, somebody gave you the adult menu. Did you want chicken tenders in the shape of dinosaurs or in the shape of stars?! You are a big boy so we'll give you BBQ sauce instead of ketchup. My, What a big boy!

shrimp legs are really good as tempura actually.

I thought I was fairly well cultured and diversified. I was wrong. I can't even fathom eating that. It looks like it came from the Predator cookbook.

they're not bad. Not amazingly delicious or anything, but not bad.

they sell them like this. this one is wasabi flavored.

Well, now that I have an idea of their actual scale, they aren't as threatening.

Still not touching them, but I no longer think I would flee the table in terror.

I dunno, the idea of fried fishbones sounds pretty good to me.

I think US born Americans aren't really comfortable with this kind of stuff. I'll admit it took me awhile to start eating stuff like this. Took me a bunch of years before I started eating shrimptails too. Some people eat the heads. I'm not that 'advanced' yet, but I probably will eventually, lol.

Here's the thing, if you're not supposed to eat them, why don't the chefs cut them off before serving them? they've already gone through the trouble of peeling the shrimp and preparing it. Do they leave the tail for "decoration"?

Plus, when you eat sushi, I think the whole point is "one piece of sushi = one bite", so having to pick at your food first seems a bit weird.

That said, I go back and forth on this issue. Sometimes I eat them, sometimes I don't.

Shrimp tails don't bother me one bit - just one more tasty bite of shrimp to eat imho. Then again I only eat shrimp fried, from reading the other posts here apparently that makes a difference.
