Your friends are right for thinking you're a weirdo. I've never heard of anyone eating shrimp tails, that shit's nasty.
Anyone who has had to prepare shrimp and remove the mud vein understands how disgusting these creatures are. I take a pass on shrimp now.

Now this is wrong.

Chinese salt and pepper shrimp is typically cooked with head, shell and tail on. I'll usually discard most of the shell after chewing on it a bit but if some ends up being eaten, no harm.
This just in: Animals have entrails. Shocking stuff.
I make it a rule not to eat any animal's digestive system, however.
I make it a rule not to eat any animal's digestive system, however. More power to you if you don't mind.
Why? What makes more sense about eating their musculature?
Actually I am not a fan of eating them either but you are bitching about the fact that shrimp have entrails... you can just remove them before cooking the shrimp.
I'm not sure why you're pulling the Asian card, because I'm Asian too. I don't know Asians who eat shells.Asians eat it with shells on. Eating the heads/tails is just personal preference. When I am eating those seasoned fried shrimp with heads and tails, I just eat the main body(with shell) and ignore the heads and tails. My parents eat everything, my siblings eat the main body, tail, and suck the stuff out of the head.
Has anyone ever eaten a shrimp head? I got this sushi once, Amaebi (sweet shrimp), and as an accent on the plate was that shrimp's head, tempura fried. Similar to this:
I was hesitant but tried it.
Fuck that noise.
That doesn't look like any Eel I've seen when eating Sushi. Prepared differently?
As someone who eats the whole peanut
I've never heard of people eating shrimp tails before. Sounds pretty disgusting. I mean, it's just chitin isn't it? Nobody eats that.
Which Asians eat the shrimp together with the shell? I have always seen people peel the shell. You're asian aren't you? Asians usually eat the shell and/or tails, most other people don't.
Before I would always remove the tail but being a year and half in China I have done a 180. I eat the whole thing now. Just too lazy to deal with cleaning it. Tastes fine and I don't think I will be going back to cleaning after I leave China.
Shrimp tails don't bother me one bit - just one more tasty bite of shrimp to eat imho. Then again I only eat shrimp fried, from reading the other posts here apparently that makes a difference.
That's totally what happened to me in Japan. It's actually like 'oh another fuss budget who won't eat tails!' You can only be the only person not eating the tails before you cave and try it and then get used to eating them
Sometimes I do, actually. I eat the ends of the bones and suck out the insides. This is like asking if you're weird for eating the bones when having chicken wings
I don't do that with chicken bones since they're usually quite dry, but pork ribs are great to chew and suck on the juices inside.Sometimes I do, actually. I eat the ends of the bones and suck out the insides.
That's a cultural thing, I imagine. Most Haitian people that I've come across do that. Well, I'd even go as far as to say most of the people from the Caribbean that I've come across do it as well.
If they're deep-fried, I eat 'em.
You mean the cartilage right? Was always told bone would mess up your digestive tract, especially chicken bone because it splinters into long pieces.Sometimes I do, actually. I eat the ends of the bones and suck out the insides.

Am I wrong for eating them? This Tuesday, after watching Girl With The Dragon Tattoo with a few friends, we headed to a nearby Applebee's to eat dinner. One of my friends ordered fried shrimp, and I noticed that she pulled off the shrimp tails before eating her shrimp. I asked her why she didn't eat her shrimp tails, and she gave me a weird look. My other friends also gave me weird looks for asking that question. They told me that they never ate shrimp tails because they considered that part of the shrimp the bone.
But I fucking love shrimp tails. I love crunching on them and swallowing their juicy goodness afterwards.
Am I wrong? Tell me please GAF, because your answer is the most important answer.
Someone also mentioned earlier about having to deal with tails when they're in pasta: something must've went horrible wrong there then. The fact that people remove the tails for stuff like pasta is because you're not supposed to eat them. There shouldn't be any tails in dishes that have shrimp mixed in
As someone who eats the whole peanut... even I cannot back you up on this OP.
I just ate some shrimp. There is absolutely no meat in the tails.
The tail is flavorless, tough to chew, and, when eaten with the rest of the shrimp in one bite, takes away from the meat.
Eating the meat first and then still eat the tail? Yeah, that's even more silly. But I don't think you actually do that, you just wanted to argue against his post, but because of that your response ended up even more silly. It's like eating egg shells after you peeled it off.People don't eat shrimp tails for "meat". It's like eating the crispy skin from a fish.
I see what you mean about eating them in one bite detracting from the meat. I don't eat shrimp whole, I eat the meat and then savor the tail afterwards.
When prepared correctly, fried shrimp tails are anything but flavorless or tough to chew. Like someone said, it's kind of like eating a shrimp flavored potato chip.
Are you suggesting those are eaten with the shell on?If the OP is weird, how would you guys eat these shrimp?
