Shrimp tails.

As someone who eats the whole peanut... even I cannot back you up on this OP.

Nasty.

Anyone who has had to prepare shrimp and remove the mud vein understands how disgusting these creatures are. I take a pass on shrimp now.

That stuff is shrimp crap, isn't it?

I made shrimp by myself once, de-veined it and all. It's a pretty tedious thing to do.. I just always like to really make sure they're de-veined as fuck before I eat them.

I make a point of not eating anything completely undigestible. Simmer those into a stock, but don't fucking eat them, gross.

Dude, what if their "juicy goodness" as you call it, is just poop??? It's the rear end of the animal!!! DUDE THINK ABOUT IT, WHAT IF YOU'RE JUST EATING SHRIMP POOP AND YOU THINK IT'S JUICY GOODNESS???

Would you stop eating the poop? Would you try eating it and seeing if it was still "juicy" and "good" after you knew it was poop? What if it was still really tasty, even knowing that poop was squirting into your mouth? What if you just took an approach like, "fuck it, I'll eat some shrimp poop if shrimp poop tastes good and is juicy in my mouth."

I mean, that's a respectable view, right? It never hurt you all these years and it tastes great, so let's be objective about it, instead of "poop is gross" by default. Makes sense, it does. But then you gotta ask, "well what if other types of poop from other types of animals is delicious, and would not hurt my immune system?". What if you explored other types of poop from other animals to see if anything else is edible and not potentially filled with nasty bacterias that could harm humans. What if you really liked the taste of other animals poop, too, and started eating that? WHAT IF YOU BECAME A POOP CONNOISSEUR?

Chinese salt and pepper shrimp is typically cooked with head, shell and tail on. I'll usually discard most of the shell after chewing on it a bit but if some ends up being eaten, no harm.

These things are so fucking good. The Chinese place I eat them at has been shut down for a few months for remodeling and I have no where else to get these shrimp at. The ones I eat don't have the head on them though, so I just eat the whole thing; basically the tail and the shell with the spices on it. That's the only time I ever eat the tail on shrimp though.

I make it a rule not to eat any animal's digestive system, however. More power to you if you don't mind.

Actually I am not a fan of eating them either but you are bitching about the fact that shrimp have entrails... you can just remove them before cooking the shrimp.

Why? What makes more sense about eating their musculature?

The mud vein in shrimp can contain things that are not digestible by people (sand, dirt), and I find it unappealing to also consume the bacterial-infested leftovers they have been eating.

If you read my post thoroughly you would understand that I did remove them whenever I prepared them. It's not completely unpleasant but is very time consuming. I don't think many restaurants are as thorough about removing them as someone would be in their own kitchen.

I put this whole thing in my mouth, eyes, tail and all. It was awesome. My girlfriend doesn't eat the tails. Huge waste, I say.

Asians eat it with shells on. Eating the heads/tails is just personal preference. When I am eating those seasoned fried shrimp with heads and tails, I just eat the main body(with shell) and ignore the heads and tails. My parents eat everything, my siblings eat the main body, tail, and suck the stuff out of the head.
I'm not sure why you're pulling the Asian card, because I'm Asian too. I don't know Asians who eat shells.

Has anyone ever eaten a shrimp head? I got this sushi once, Amaebi (sweet shrimp), and as an accent on the plate was that shrimp's head, tempura fried. Similar to this:

I was hesitant but tried it.

Fuck that noise.

deep fried shrimp heads are absolutely delicious.

I just ate some shrimp. There is absolutely no meat in the tails.

The tail is flavorless, tough to chew, and, when eaten with the rest of the shrimp in one bite, takes away from the meat.

I've never heard of people eating shrimp tails before. Sounds pretty disgusting. I mean, it's just chitin isn't it? Nobody eats that.

Before I would always remove the tail but being a year and half in China I have done a 180. I eat the whole thing now. Just too lazy to deal with cleaning it. Tastes fine and I don't think I will be going back to cleaning after I leave China.

That's totally what happened to me in Japan. It's actually like 'oh another fuss budget who won't eat tails!' You can only be the only person not eating the tails before you cave and try it and then get used to eating them

I don't think you're actually supposed to ingest the exoskeleton of anything you eat

This is like asking if you're weird for eating the bones when having chicken wings

Shrimp tails don't bother me one bit - just one more tasty bite of shrimp to eat imho. Then again I only eat shrimp fried, from reading the other posts here apparently that makes a difference.

Eat a shrimp in a more raw state, it will definitely change your mind on eating the tail at certain times.

I the end tails depending on how it's cooked. If the shrimped is fried or steamed well then I don't mind if it's small shrimp. Anything big and well like others here have said for themselves I have tingly nightmares about such a thing.

just asked my wife and this isn't a general thing in Japan. Some do, some don't. Fried, breaded prawn/shrimp has the tail exposed and only the body breaded, so to me that says 'you hold this bit, and eat the breaded part'

Sometimes I do, actually. I eat the ends of the bones and suck out the insides.

That's a cultural thing, I imagine. Most Haitian people that I've come across do that. Well, I'd even go as far as to say most of the people from the Caribbean that I've come across do it as well.

I really hate when shrimp is served on top of pasta or on top of a salad and yet doesn't have the tails removed. It's one thing if we're talking about cocktail shrimp and shrimp that are served as the meal themselves, but when combined with another food those damn tails should be removed.

I don't do that with chicken bones since they're usually quite dry, but pork ribs are great to chew and suck on the juices inside.

You mean the cartilage right? Was always told bone would mess up your digestive tract, especially chicken bone because it splinters into long pieces.

Am I wrong for eating them? This Tuesday, after watching Girl With The Dragon Tattoo with a few friends, we headed to a nearby Applebee's to eat dinner. One of my friends ordered fried shrimp, and I noticed that she pulled off the shrimp tails before eating her shrimp. I asked her why she didn't eat her shrimp tails, and she gave me a weird look. My other friends also gave me weird looks for asking that question. They told me that they never ate shrimp tails because they considered that part of the shrimp the bone.

But I fucking love shrimp tails. I love crunching on them and swallowing their juicy goodness afterwards.

Am I wrong? Tell me please GAF, because your answer is the most important answer.

Stopped here. Yes you are. There is no reason to eat the exo part of the tail when you can get the meat out easily. I grew up near the cost and have eaten shrimp all my life. When I first saw someone do this I wanted to reach down their throat.

Now, that said... I understand some cultures are different and don't leave anything to waste. Is there anything 'wrong' with eating them, I doubt it.

Someone also mentioned earlier about having to deal with tails when they're in pasta: something must've went horrible wrong there then. The fact that people remove the tails for stuff like pasta is because you're not supposed to eat them. There shouldn't be any tails in dishes that have shrimp mixed in

Every single time I've ordered Pad Thai, in any Thai restaurant I've ever been inside, they leave the tails on the shrimp.

For your information, chefs leave the tails on because they add to the flavor.

You're bagging on someone for eating shrimp tails and you eat peanut shells ? GTFO

People don't eat shrimp tails for "meat". It's like eating the crispy skin from a fish.

I see what you mean about eating them in one bite detracting from the meat. I don't eat shrimp whole, I eat the meat and then savor the tail afterwards.

When prepared correctly, fried shrimp tails are anything but flavorless or tough to chew. Like someone said, it's kind of like eating a shrimp flavored potato chip.

Eating the meat first and then still eat the tail? Yeah, that's even more silly. But I don't think you actually do that, you just wanted to argue against his post, but because of that your response ended up even more silly. It's like eating egg shells after you peeled it off.

If the OP is weird, how would you guys eat these shrimp?
Are you suggesting those are eaten with the shell on?

I also hope you guys don't eat fried crab claws entirely.
