Shu says no custom wallpapers for PS4

This is very disappointing , since I'm still using m0dus's Street Fighter theme and i wanted something similar on the PS4 even if it's just wallpaper, i hope they add this in future update, ya i know it's not high priority at launch but hopping to add this later and not limit us to chose from selected wallpaper from the store.

Thank you m0dus for this wonderful theme.

What? Thats rubbish, Sony these last few weeks are doing an MS. DriveClub delayed, camera no H/W switch and the lack of customization that made PS3 so great? Sucks, I was hoping for even more this time. Like a tool to create your own dynamic theme, an official one. Or being able to set a wallpaper for each day.

Or hell, a wallpaper for each 'section' like the vita does.... I love that feature on the Vita.


I hope they realise that is a mistake and patch it in.
 
Still rocking the original blue background on my Vita. But options would be nice (I do it for my PC all the time).
 
I would rather them have a stable OS that runs games like they are being chased by a ninja bear that is being chased by bees that are on fire than worry about putting up kitten pictures behind my icons to fill the void in my life only customization can fill. Maybe they add it later, maybe we choose from colors? Either way it's not a deal-breaker for me and I suspect most will feel the same way.

It is pretty stupid though since the PS3 has had it basically since launch and the Vita had it since it launched. But I guess the priority right now for both MS and Sony is to get the next gen consoles out the door. Realistically both consoles should have launched early next year.

My guess is Sony is just trying to put the base firmware out there for most of the gaming stuff and all that other non important stuff like this for future updates. I'd expect an update for this in 2014 so no big deal.

I guess these are some of the pains us day 1 owners will have to go through at launch. Oh well, that said November 15 can't get here soon enough.

uhh no... that feature came out about half a year after launch for the ps3

Reminds me of Vita memory card-gate, lol. Not quite as bad as that, of course.
 
The less stupid "waifu" wallpapers the better

But seriously, it's not a big deal to me. The only reason I have a custom theme on my PS3 is because i got it from PS Home.

Not going to cancel my preorder or anything over it, just something you would assume is in by default. Such a 'standard' yet awesome feature, was looking forward to getting the system the way I like it.
 
Perhaps we could start a twitter campaign, #PS4CustomizeXMB, to convince Sony to let us customize our XMB :P

If #PS4NoDRM was a success, maybe another twitter thing could work.

This. It's nice to be able to change your background picture but honestly it's not like it's going have any effect on your gameplay experience...
 
I've been using Junebug Bench for years. It was free with PS+ and fits all my needs - dark wallpaper and not a ton of motion.

There's entire threads full of page after page of vitriol about content ads on the UI. People care about stuff.

I kind of liked it when custom themes/backgrounds unlocked as rewards for trophies. Feels like a more in your face reminder of completing an in-game challenge. I hope that's still possible, at least.
 
I know it's not a big thing but it still annoys me that with such news (FW1.5) the PS4 OS feels kinda like a downgrade instead of simply building on what is great about the PS3 OS features.
Sure, they may implement it later just like they did on PS3...

Big part of the new gen fun for me is fiddling around with the new "toy", that includes trying out all the features, set the options to my likings and customize everything a bit...

I think it's more so the fact that they're taking away features that were present in the PS3, features that add to the overall user experience whether you noticed them all the time or not. That stuff starts to add up. Meanwhile on the XB1 you're able to customize it down to the color of the achievement pop ups...people like being able to customize stuff even if it's something they change once and never notice it again.
 
This is a huge deal for me. If I can't customise my own consoles theme, what's the point of having it? :(

actually just annoyed can't have steins;gate pictures anymore
 
Guess I'm one of the few that doesn't really care about this at all.
Looking at all these replies. wow... :-/

Just give me games, that's all I want from these systems. Never use any other functions anyway.
 
While it is not a deal breaker it is slightly disappointing. I am certain that it'll be patched in eventually.

might backfire, considering PS4 doesn't use the XMB :P

also: i thought it was already confirmed that you can't change the background on xbone? you can only change the OS color?
