Holy crap! Alessa, sirens, world transforming, zombie nurses, map perusal!

This is real Silent Hill!!!

you know a PS2 has all those as well, complete with "real" and "fake" versions. :)

What a remarkably stupid comment.

You do know a PS2 isn't a handheld, right?

As for this game - I'm currently playing through SH1 on my PSP, and will be really looking forward to Origins in the future. Good to see it looking so good now - those old shots were scary, and not in the good way.

Holy crap. I completely went from 'Not interested' to 'DO WANT' after watching this trailer.

Like others have already said. This actually looks and feels and sounds like Silent Hill. What a major overhaul since it was first shown. I'm officiall excited. The game looks incredible. Almost as good looking as Silent Hill 2.

Thanks for the youtube upload.

It does look great. I think I've moved from 'avoid this title at all costs' to 'buying it on day 1'.

It's also in Syphon Filter Dark Mirror, I think that is more impressive but this is the second best looking PSP game.

Also this kinda makes me want a proper RE game on PSP! But that will never happen :(

PS2 PORT CONFIRMED
No need for the capslock -_- . It's one of those TRC compliance things, all menus and literature have to refer to the buttons as 'L' and 'R'. I might let them off because it's a game in development, but it's a pretty strong indication that there will be a PS2 version and/or that this was a PS2 build shown off.

One thing that got me was the various sound effects for the menus, weapons, panels..etc.

OMG yes, the audio (effects, music, etc..) was ****ing Silent Hill perfection. Wasn't sure at first, but playing this with some decent headphones, will probably make you shit yourself in broad daylight (even in public).

This is the kind of game I'd much rather play on a console (in reference to the PS2 port stuff).

Come on, Silent Hill 5 will probably hit both 360 and PS3, let the PSP have this.

If ported, the original version of a game doesn't vanish from existence. Apparently GAF has a hard time wrapping their heads around this fact.

Handhelds can't adequately provide the same Silent Hill atmosphere the way a home console setup could.

I want to buy a PSP. I was actually thinking about buying one today but I'm worried a new version might be announced soon. What do you guys think?

I honestly do NOT think a new version will be announced. Of course, I have no proof of this, but it just doesn't seem like something Sony is interested in at this time. The areas where an upgrade would be useful really aren't something they'd bother with, I wouldn't think. I would love to see an OLED screen, for instance, but most are still impressed with the current screen and I doubt that would justify a massive price hike. Internal storage is worthless as well considering the price of memory sticks at this time. They couldn't change TOO much without cutting off the current user base...

yeah at least not this year. I am guessing maybe next year but they don't have time or money to cut costs since PS3 is bleeding a lot of money

The redesign rumors have been shitting around since early 2006, and ya might have to wait a few more years before we actually see this upgraded PSP in stores. Sony seems like their taking the same route as they did with the PS-One and PS-Two, which is waiting to the end of the platform's lifeline (or the next generation of hardware) before releasing a newer version of their current product. Probably the most change you'll see out of the PSP coming from Sony, will be the recent $30 price drop, with a few new bundles and system colors.

The music (at least in the hospital vid) is placeholder material. It looks great! Nice idea with that closeup "struggle" camera view. That's something they should bring along to SH5, since it lets you see the detail that goes into the monsters and characters. :)

Overall, the camera work seems good. Maybe Naoto Ohshima assisted the team?

EDIT: Oh yeah, the bare-hands combat is perfect for SH. Some meaty punches there. ;)

The "horror games don't work on handhelds" meme made sense before the PSP... but I just don't think its true anymore. It's basically a little HDTV in your hands (held much closer than a TV, making it pretty much the same size as far as your brain is concerned), and headphones make for perfect sound.

That's probably a better setup than the SDTV you likely played the first couple of SHs on.

Sure it's not scary on the bus.... but your living room aint that scary either. Why not play it in an abandoned building...? :lol

Agreed. With headphones you don't think a handheld game can provide a scary experience? Wait till dark, get in your car, drive to the nearest graveyard, get out, lock yourself in the trunk of your car and see how that feels. Alternatively you can just drive off the end of a pier and play until the water fills up the vehicle and you can't breathe. Consider it an exclusive timed mission!

OR

Turn off all the lights of your house, get in the bathroom, and start masturbating furiously looking at the twitching nur- oh wait!

I'm in the "not sure about this being on the PSP" camp, I just don't know if handhelds can really do the series the justice it deserves. I'm still not sure if survival horror games can work on handhelds, but if any game can prove that wrong this is it.

Why the **** is it so dark?!? I know it's Silent Hill, but it's just not practical to make a PSP game so dark. If you can only play it in your home with all of the lights out, what is the point of putting it on a portable system?!?

Great tech demo for the PSP, though.

The masterbait insider clip's pretty cool. It looks like it's basically the game - played from boot up. It has a CG intro and opening credits over the first gameplay sequence. Oh and it's actually at 480x272, which we don't see often enough for PSP content imho.
