Silent Hill Origins Exclusive Hands-On (GI online)

YES!

William: When planning this game, I knew I wanted to incorporate the psychological elements that were experienced in Silent Hill 2. James' story is so moving, and if anything, the town is a mirror of what exists in the character's heart and mind. Bringing this aspect back to the game, while adding the background and context of the first game, seemed like a way to have the best of both worlds, and I sincerely hope that fans will appreciate the effort and thought into creating something complex and thought-provoking.

Drawn or stumbled - that's up to the player to decide. One of the great things about Silent Hill is that things are left for interpretation. Maybe one day we explain it ... maybe we don't. The important thing is that players connect with Travis and really get a sense of who he is, what he's struggling with and, for fans of prior games, understand his role in the history of the town.

That Insider video is amazing. The long run down the road while a vocal song plays is a really nice touch. It took them awhile but they've completely captured the look and feel of the series.

The music is especially good. The intro music uses some cues from the original soundtrack. The voiced song when walking down the road. The sad music inside the house..etc.

Not an IGN insider so I can't see those, but of the gamevideos ones the one in the burning house is utterly amazing. The graphics, the fact that it's Alessa, and the music all combine to make an amazing scene that just screams Silent Hill.

"Let me burn . . . " *chills*

Oh, and it's impressive that the fire effects in the burning house video are better than the fire effects in Lair - yeah, I said it!

I'll be buying Lair and think it looks amazing, but the fire effects are completely not up to par and F5 must know it, there's really no excuse for that in a freaking dragon game.

Anyway, SH:O, I'm really hoping those "QTE" kind of skirmishes get carried over into the next full game, it really is a good idea.

I haven't seen those.
Thanks. :)

I love how they've expanded the melee weapon possibilities. I've seen Travis (isn't that his name?) using a whole variety of random things as blunt weapons so far.

Can't say I'm too fond of using fists, though. Seems kinda cheesy/unrealistic to me... :D

I can't believe how much the look of this game has improved compared to other builds. Incredible.

Surely I can find the Insider video somewhere...

Yes and the quote you posted before really hyped me :D.

Sweet graphics! I hated the original's sloppy controls, camera and combat, but this looks like a whole league beyond that. I love the mood and everything! Hopefully there's real, bearable acting in this one (I haven't played past SH2 so I don't know if it got better after that).

This is amazing. Unbelievable.

I'm so happy we're getting SOMETHING while we wait for SH5. Which is coming. From some team. Somewhere.

Maybe SH5 is in development in dark Silent Hill and we actually have to go there and get the game? And that is the game.

Or something like that.

SH2's VA wasn't bad at all, IMO. Beyond the first one, I think the series has pretty decent voice acting, overall.

I'm glad to see this game has made such a turn around, especially with the monster design. I just hope the main character turns out to be as interesting as those from past games.

It'll be a nice distraction while we wait for SH5 at least. Three years ago this August it was announced as being designed with next gen consoles in mind. With the recent Yamaoka interview saying he can't comment on how far along it is or even what console it's being made for it's a bit unnerving to imagine how the development is going.

I know in the past Silent Hill games have been mostly shown when they're in a 'near finished' state, but man. Three years and we've got the same amount of info. Thankfully, they've given us what's looking like a nice treat on the PSP while we wait.

Dark Silent Hill must be
America

And I'm over it already. Just make sure it's happening and Yamaoka is doing the music. Optimally "Team Silent" would be consulting, but I won't get my hopes up. They're such a fractured and amorphous identity now anyway.

Looking at the game's history through Wikipedia and such, SH5 looks like its been in a state of flux for at least a year. If we get it at all, I'm sure it'll be okay. Look at the great progress made by SH0 to capture the feeling of the original.

SH0 feels more like 1 mixed with 2 than 3 and 4 to me, and 3 and 4 actually HAD Team Silent on the whole project. :lol
