Silent Hills concept trailer (TGS)

Easily one of my most anticipated games at this point, and I've never played a Silent Hill game before. Unfortunately it's looking like a 2016 game. I'm calling it now.

Do you guys think this will be the scariest game ever when it releases?

For what I've seen in the trailers, it is.
I have never felt a feeling of terror/horror on a game/movie before and I have played almost all horror games that there is to play and with this trailer I feel kindda uneasy, which is good and im loving it.

The graphics in the trailer clearly looks leagues ahead of the P.T demo: almost photorealistic with very realistic lighting (look at the toys emitting lights), they look within the level of the graphics when you finish the demo (which will represent the final game graphics). P.T was cmearmy dumbed down in graphics, they weren't lying. Seeing that FF15 got its graphics improved, there is no doubt that Silent Hills will get its graphics improved.

good lord, is this in-engine?
I'm so sad right now, that I'll probably never play more than the first hour of this game, because I get scared so fast. I really, really want to play this, but my body just says no.

everyone else is freaking out and she's all "like I give a fuck"

This was my BF when I was playing the PT trailer. He pretty much thought it was unimpressive and not original (or some similar complaint). He pretty much was rolling his eyes at it.

I thought the PT trailer was done well for being totally creepy/scary (especially with being sparing with the jump scares and just having you on the edge that one could happen at any moment). This video though? I don't know, while it was pretty creepy and fun to watch, didn't scare me one bit. I think it was too over the top (PT worked for me for being a lot more subtle with a really good soundtrack). In a way, I know most people want a game like this to scare them, but it gives me hope I might be able to play it (I really can't play truly scary games but I love the stories/atmosphere behind them so I want to).

Very interesting and scary. I hope that the final game will feature bigger environments to explore with actual puzzles and of course some kind of action.

Yep it is. Kojima in the live stream confirmed it was : " RIRU TAIMU " on PISUFUU.

P.T. looked so good, I thought this was the actual in-game. But I'm super interested by this trailer.

Also, Titan, what are you doing in my house?

I'm really 'eh' on this. It just seems like a haunted house simulator and focusing on jump scares rather than being all about psychological horror.
But this is just a concept trailer so let's see what happens. The moment where the boy picks up his head was hilarious, door was cool.

I've never been a big fan fan of Silent Hill, but this looks crazy promising and the PT demo is one of the very few games that genuinely creeps me out. :)

Whoever got Kojima and Kojima Productions to sign on as the director/developer needs to get the largest of pay raises.

So many years of horrible westernized Silent Hill games, please be current-gen/PC exclusive

Did you play P.T. ?

I think by 'concept trailer' they meant they were trying to throw in as many different horror elements into a scene as possible, to try and set a mood/style for the game.

Looks decent but I hope Del Toro brings his Pan's Labyrithn game and not whatever the fuck lameness that inspired the super generic The Strain and why he would then champion it being made as a really generic with his name all over it into that weak ass tv adaptation.

You are aware that The Strain is intentionally campy right? It's kind of Guillermo's thing, he loves that shit.

The trailer was pretty over the top, but the actual demo was more inline with older games, so that's good so far.

Del Toro said that when he first saw PT in a playable form it was "much different" than what he played. I am guessing his input helped tone down the over the top stuff from the initial concept

It'd be really interesting to (eventually) find out what he meant by that comment, yeah.

Is it true that this game will be distributed episodically?

Just saw it at an Brasilian webpage. That halves my hype if true! :/

Edit: On a second thought, it can be good if there are more choices and different endings. Well, we will see then!

I hope this stays first person, this looks amazing. If they can match the atmosphere from P.T with this then sign me up. I'm also willing to bet this game will be multi-platform and feature 3D headset devices.

I disagree. Camera angle and direction is the most important aspect of creating a scary horror game or film. If this game were to be third person i seriously doubt the game would have set camera angles. By having a controllable camera you lose control of direction. Having a first person view at least limits the amount of area you can view at once and generally provides some direction as the player is likely to be looking forward rather than spinning around to see everything.
It is likely first person with no interaction with world other then what seen in P.T, the question is, is that what you want.
I think a first view should be available as part of the controls, but Ideally myself I would like an free cam and a dynamic cinematic cam, like the originals
The one thing that made me uneasy in Silent Hill was it's odd camera movements and angles, I hear people say it was scary when you was being haunted and could hear the foot steps behind you, that only works because it's first person which is bullwhip, SH2 did it and made it worse by changing the camera angle as if you're being watched too, that was unnerving and while love P.T it was just another outlast clone really which wasn't scary at all,I think I jumped once in outlast when one the patients put his head round the corner, P.T had the atmosphere but it become less scary because I knew nothing was gonna happen because I was limited to this first person view with no interaction with anything, the game didn't require me to do anything but watch.
That's not really what I and I'm sure all us want really, it gonna be fantastic regardless but may not be Silent Hill just a very good outlast clone.
Hopefully it's not.

You had to interact on PT with the ambient. You have to check some places, collect photos and solve some puzzles. And things happens on that teaser... It really do!

Pretty cool concept trailer but yeah, doesn't really feel like Silent Hill to me for the most part.

I know this is probably nothing to do with the actual game and may have even been made before PT so don't want to judge it too harshly, I just hope Kojima/Del Toro etc do have a better understanding of what Silent Hill should be than what has so far been shown.

I hope the actual game is toned down a bit and they try to really make a good Silent Hill game that has a good story, interesting and subtle symbolism, isn't filled with jump scares etc, rather than catering to people who don't really care that much about the series as a whole and are just excited because a big budget game with Kojima/Del Toro is being made.

Also, fuck first-person (a mixture of both perspectives could work) and fuck an episodic format.

OMG enough already... This is a freaking video game not a freaking TV show!!

I want to buy the full game and get the whole experience day 1.... Not to wait for episodes.

Dear god what the freaking hell developers think these days!!!

ENOUGH with these stupid ideas -.-"

Then just...wait. I don't know why the concept of episodic games seems so difficult to grasp for some.

PEGI-18 confirmed?

Looks like a giant reverse
blowjob

Any translation of the PT event? Did they really talk for an hour with no new info at all. Hell I would like to know who came up with the idea of sound as a trigger.

This was truly awful. There's nothing creepy or horrifying about this. The most effective horror is the one that our imagination creates. This didn't leave anything to the viewer's imagination and instead tried to squeeze in as many cheesy "horror" scenes as this video could fit, and then some.

If anything, this would have had me worried for the final game if I hadn't already played P.T.
Though, admittedly, P.T. sometimes makes the same mistakes, and trades true horror for cheap tired jump scares. Still, there's enough in the teaser game to keep me optimistic about Silent Hills, whereas this video on its own would have insta-killed all my excitement.

It's a tech demo teaser. Not a personal journey into the embodiment of darkness.

Not a stupid idea at all. An episodic approach would be sweet for Silent Hills, actually. Look at how awesome PT was. Something like 5 episodes @ about 3 times the length of PT each would be amazing. Plus, episodic content means we would get something quicker. First episode could release in 2015, for instance.

Have you ever played a silent hill game? This idea sounds awful

Not so fast there, Praiseworthy.

Team Silent's Imamura had this idea (episodic, Twilight Zone style smaller entries using a single game engine) during SH2's development.
Back in 2001 the PS2 simply didn't have the means to make this a realistic possibility. Don't think KCET thought the brand was strong enough to pull it off, either.

So episodic SH isn't exactly a new idea. :)
