i assume you guys are from the US which makes things a bit more difficult. i think Europe and Asia have a much bigger premium whisky market.
Some us based whisky dudes can probably help you out better with this but:
if you are not afraid of high shipping costs importing is an option.
like
http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com and many others
but unless you order a bunch of bottles (like 4+, maybe together with friends) the shipping cost is way to high imo.
if you are looking for rare (and expensive) bottles
http://whiskyauction.com/ is a great place, they run monthly auctions, sort of like ebay, except they run centralized once a month. (also the website looks like straight out of 90s

)
be prepared to shell out big bucks there.
some good other websites for whisky in general are
http://whiskybase.com/ which is like those DVD collection websites with an insane amount of whiskys catalogued, where you can manage your collection, read other users ratings/reviews, etc.
your collection looks like this
and of course
http://www.whiskyfun.com/
the website of whisky tasting superstar Serge Valentine. it has a huge archive of his tasting notes and reviews. he is super influential, if a limited bottling gets a 90+ rating the bottles sell out in no time and values soar

Being currently unemployed, I don't get to enjoy scotch whiskey as much as I'd like. Anyone have any suggestions for lower priced scotch (or other) whiskey that isn't terrible?
generally there aren't really bad bottling in the 30 $/ starting range, comes more down to your personal taste imo
