Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
I'm a bit older than most so I haven been online gaming since the dreamcast days. I do not have any desire to play the franchise games anymore like Cod, Battlefield, Madden, etc etc I probably these days play about 95% single player.

I was huge into multiplayer when counter strike first came out, played only mulitplayer games for a couple years after that, then got burnt out. All felt like the same experience over and over.

Now I just do single player.

Last multiplayer I enjoyed was FFIV and technically it's an MMO. Play Gensin Impact mostly solo. Would probably break down and pay for online multiplayer if they ever released a new Warhawk. For the most part though I am very satisfied immersing myself in a solo experience.
Shit, that sounds kinda dirty. Anyway......yeah solo for me.

I play more single player RPG/action type games. I have discovered that other than older fps, I vastly prefer multiplayer FPS.

Really just depends on what I'm feeling.

I'd say it's around a 80/20 split in favor of singleplayer. Maybe more.

Single Player only. I have never ever played any game in co-op/multi-player. In fact, I have never ever played any game "online" unless it's required like Outriders, Division 1 & 2 and For Honor but even then, I play 100% solo. In fact, that's the closest that I will ever get to playing a game in co-op/multi-player.

I'm a very social so i gravitate towards multiplayer/competitive games even though I'm older. But i do carve out some time for specific single player games.

poll results already showing how this place isn't a good representation of the gaming population, where the large majority of gaming is online multiplayer.

I'm almost entirely online multiplayer.

I'm pretty much SP all the way. I don't really care for shooters, which is what most MP games tend to be.

I have played a couple online races in Hot Wheels Unleashed.....didn't do too bad, came in 4th the first race, and 2nd the last race. But I still prefer just playing the SP side of it.

I think maybe I could get into MP with racing games, simply because races tend to only be a few minutes at a time, but I don't think I could tolerate any kind of long campaign type of game. I need my pause button.

i like both but more single player i suppose.

right now on my PC the only single player game i have is FFVII. the rest of my games installed: fortnite, rocket league, league of legends, valorant, destiny 2, halo infinite.

on switch i have SMTV, BOTW, Fortnite, Smash, Animal Crossing, Mario 3D world, pokémon snap, skyward sword.

on ps4 i have bloodborne, persona 5.

so i have 9 single player games and 7 online games. upcoming games i will buy are Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, BOTW2, Forza 8, Starfield.

99% MP like Battlefield, LoL or Monster Hunter and 1% SP with games like Guardians of the Galaxy, GoW or similar.

Why not both?

Co-op is the best answer to everything.

It's multi-player by having multiple players, but it's solo, by continuing the story.

100% single player. I absolutely hate everything about online and multiplayer. Nothing would bother me more than being disturbed by other players when gaming.. I always play Souls games in offline mode, etc 🙂

Singleplayer nearly all the of the time, co op is ok now and then, but i don't play MP games, it's just deathmatch over and over to me and i find it boring, and on PC, other humans cheat a lot lol.

I'm almost entirely online multiplayer.

Oh man I guess all those record breaking Sony singleplayer exclusives must be a tiny fraction of the gaming playerbase.

I can see how it's easy to draw that conclusion however as the most popular console The Nintendo Switch is a online powerhouse.

MP..

Hard to beat playing games with mates. All my best gaming moments has been with online friends.

Also.. AI is still not competitive enough to be regarded as a worthy opponent - unless taken to extremes, which just makes it frustrating most times.

I play more single player games but time spent playing both is close to 50/50 with an edge toward playing solo.

I play a bunch of games solo and I pretty much only play Battlefield and Halo for multiplayer. I do not play coop.

What records? Might wanna check the best sellers list every year and the most played lists on PSN/XBL on any given day of the year.

COD. Fortnite. Battlefield. Apex. Madden. FIFA. NBA. Etc. People aren't playing them for their single player modes. Hell most of them don't even *have* a single player mode lol.

Straight from Sony themselves:

Here is a look at the top ten PS5 games played during PS5's first year, based on gameplay hours:

  • Fortnite
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
  • FIFA 21
  • NBA 2K21
  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  • Destiny 2
  • MLB The Show 21
  • Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Demon's Souls
  • NBA 2K22
That would be 7 online multiplayer games, then 3 single player games that unsurprisingly happen to be launch titles. Doesn't really match what you're saying does it?

At the beginning of the 360/PS3 gen I was heavy into MP because it was new to me. By the end of that gen I started going more towards SP only and it's been that way since. I'll still pick up COD and play a few matches from time to time but that's the extent of it.

They are. Pubg was downloaded 1 BILION times. Fortnite has 350 milion registered players. LOL and World of Tanks, Apex Legends and GTA 5 have each over 100 milion players. There is 100 milion people who play Microsoft Solitare Collection.
How many people play Sony singleplayer exclusives? 20 milions?

For me it's mostly been single player, but halo infinite mp has really grabbed me and now I find myself playing mp every time I boot up my xsx. I haven't been this addicted to a mp game since cod mw. I'm sure I'll eventuality tire of it and go back toward single player experiences

While online has a huge impact in the gaming space your essentially using it as an excuse to switch your brain off and sideline any singleplayer attempt as meaningless.

I could use the same argument to turn around and say multiplayer console games are meaningless because Mobile dwarfs them by comparison and therefore any opinion outside of the mobile space is pointless and not a reflection of gaming at all.

Sounds pretty stupid to do that right?

However I'm still not seeing where the most popular console sits in all this, The Switch. Is it simply a fortnite machine?

When I find a MP that clicks with me, I play it incessantly for a long time. That doesn't happen often though, so mostly SP.

The post of mine that you disagreed with said that this poll shows that this site is not representative of the greater gaming world, since online multiplayer is far more popular - which I then provided proof of to counter your claim that Sonys "record breaking single player sales" prove single player is more popular.

I didn't say "single player is meaningless". I have no idea where you got that idea from. I said multiplayer is far more popular, which it is.

As for the switch, fortnite is the number one most played game on it btw:

Just in case you still want to deny it:

I barely play anything online multiplayer

Only enjoy local multiplayer and since i dont have a bunch of friends hanging out at my apartment all day anymore i dont really play them at all

For me multiplayer is a waste of time, unless it's local IRL with friends. And beers, and weed.

For me singleplayer is much better. The gameplay mechanics can be much more polished since you'll be fighting enemies controlled by an IA and the devs don't have to worry too much about balance.

I also love the feeling of beating a game, which is something I don't get with multiplayer.

I only play online and GaaS games.

Cba to play new games all the time so tend to play the same ones that I like.
