I am Homie
I am looking for a pair of ear buds that I can wear while I work, and not worry about one side dying/the other side following in a few months.

I am in love with the look of skull candy headphones, and I know gaf has elite headphone opinions, so here I am. Bearing my hopes and dreams to you gaf. Are these stylish headphones good?

From the buds I've tried, sonically they're good if you like bass.

...way too much of it, and absolutely nothing else.

Bad look on the style factor too.

No, no they aren't. From the research I've done lately I've come to the conclusion that 99% of headphones you can buy in a brick and mortar store are shit.

Truth. Even the Sennheisers you may find at Target or Circuit City are the low-end ones.

NO. NO. NO.

I'm by no means an Audiophile, but I absolutely despise SkullCandy's earphones. You can hear the vibrations from the cord when you walk or move your head slightly.

Also, one side of it broke not too long after I bought it. And no, I do not go hiking with these earphones. I mainly use them at home and only brought them outside of the house like twice.

They are fine. Go get them. Better than standard bundled earbuds, they block out audio really well (used them on planes), and they aren't that expensive. On the down side, they are still earbuds so quality will never be super.

All I needed was one green light B)

I use the INKd and I think they sound great they just suck for running since they're in-ear you hear the wires swing, it's odd. The smokin buds are not as good as the inkd buds, which is odd since they cost more.

But yeah, inkd buds are pretty awesome and great quality, especially for the price.

First I laughed because you wrote SkullCandy. Then I laughed because somehow you attached the word "stylish" to them.

I would laugh because of how pathetic and annoying you come off, but it's just sad, really.

That's weird. I don't hear it when I walk, I commute everyday from train to train in NYC walking around and it doesn't happen, but when I jog it's definitely there and I have to use something else.

5 reds and 1 green. Good decision.
Well to be fair a majority of the responses are douchey. Audiophiles and ear buds really don't mix well. Personally I would have said get a good larger Sennheiser but he was asking about earbuds. Like I said before, they don't cost much and it's always good to have a reliable pair of them for certain situations such as blocking out the sound on an airplane, train, or bus.

I agree they are about as stylish as a pair of Dora the Explorer earbuds.

I can't say for sure whether you'd hear it when you're in a noisy environment (like I said, I only took it out of my house a few times), but I definitely hear it when I'm at home. My friend says the same thing. Maybe our store had a bad stock?

Edit:

I wasn't trying to sound douchey. I was genuinely trying to give him my experience with them.

I had the ear buds and I borrowed my brothers skull candy cans (3 weeks after those ear buds lost sound on the left side) and both sounded atrocious then they are also terribly ugly. the Camo look doesn't work at all unless you are in the army. No matter how much you really want it to. These things look like Limp Bizkit designed them 10 years ago.

I have a set of skullcandy earbuds. The sound quality is pretty terrible, sorry fellas.

The ones I had before them were excellent: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IG66VS/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I got them when they were $19.95, no idea why they are so expensive now. Of course, the fucking sound eventually dropped out in one ear rendering them useless.

Actually does anyone know of a GOOD set of bluetooth/wireless headphones? I'd gladly get a set to avoid that problem.

I just think to myself, why start a thread asking for advice if you're really only looking for 1 person's approval. Going down the posts it just seems like he had his mind made up anyway. There are definitely better alternatives when it comes to IEM's, maybe a bit more money, and you won't find them in-store, but why bother cause the OP didn't want advice anyway.

NEVER buy a set of headphones based on how they look, only on how they sound. Especially when the headphones you are looking at are only popular because of their marketing and "style."

Here's a set that I have been ecstatic about. They sound amazing with very good bass and great mid and treble, are low profile, block out sound very well, and are very comfortable. No fancy marketing here. Just a good product.

Why ask for opinions if you're going to ignore pretty much every negative post? And I'm not talking about the audiophilles, I mean the people that are telling you, based on experience, that Skullcandy headphones aren't good, overpriced and prone to break fast.

Since its freezing out and I don't have the balls to get them right now, I will sleep on the decision a bit. But honestly I haven't felt a huge difference in all the ear buds Ive tried so the way they look/durability are the main focal points for me.

edit- lol@ the people getting frustrated about something so silly.

The ones I have now "Denons" were worth the sticker price of $50 and have great sound, comfortable, come with enough replaceable ear pieces, a little bag to carry them and have a very sturdy chord.

:lol :lol :lol

I would literally refuse to speak with someone who was wearing these headphones.

They sound like complete ass and they make you look like one.

The fix for IEMs dead on one side or the other is often as simple as replacing the jack. That said, it's going to happen. It's the nature of the beast.

If you're really concerned, check out one of the modular designs(Jays Q-Jays, Sleek Audio SA6, Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 Pro). You'll pay a lot more, but being able to replace the cables is going to keep them alive longer. You'll get a great set of IEMs to boot.

Otherwise, just acknowledge that at $20 these are effectively throw-away phones. Work them hard and buy a new pair of them when they break without regret.

Also, the ER6i are not any less prone to one-sided blowouts than any other IEM, so paying $70 seems silly to me(after having bought a pair myself). Their saving grace is the 1 year warranty which might save you a headache. If they break within warranty, Etymotic's excellent customer service will save the day.

Yea those headphones make you look like a complete ass!!

Yup. To be more precise, you'd look like an ass because of your choice of purchasing such a shitty pair of headphones with so many other alternatives out there, especially after making an "advice" thread...you'd look like ass because they're absolutely horrific looking.

Go with something good instead. Check and test some Sennheiser/Shure/Beyerdynamic and compare. Even if you like the look of something, which in this case is hard to understand, go for the ones with the best sound, as always.

*edit*

Holy shit at that picture. I'm going to have nightmares now.

We are talking earbuds here. EAR BUDDDDDDDDDDDD. Like Air Bud but inside of your head.

2 out of 3 of those ear buds look pretty nice, and style is all about if I like the way they look dooderrrr.

So for sound quality/durability which pair of ear buds in the $50 range get the gaf vote.

Right answer, spend some more.

But you're wearing them...and should know better.

I have some creative noise canceling headphones, which Skullcandy has (had) as a rebadged version with awful urban hippie colors/design for 3x the price...

so yeah, you can probably get something a lot better for the same price

Denon's...they are available at Target for $45+. Great for the price and they don't look like ass.

I bought them for $6 because I needed to block out the sound on an airplane and used them a handful of times since. Again, we are talking about earbuds here. I wouldn't touch a headphone that this company makes.

Well to get better sound. But the best would be if you have the time / possibility to test a few and compare them with those that cost at bit more. It's a pretty big chance that you'll be willing to spend a few extra bucks for the quality difference. Depends on your ear a bit too so testing is the best option. I would recommend spending as much as possible but it's impossible to say if you think it's worth as much as I do, which is why I almost never recommend certain headphones and stuff like that, it's individual.

I got a pair of SkullCandy earbuds from FYE for like 12 bucks and they're pretty solid. Dunno where all the hate comes from.

Atleast theyre better than the iPod ones. Ugh.

I like this opinion.

To be fair, 75% of my classmates use them. The Target around our school only sells these and really expensive alternatives. With that said, I would also like to say that none of my "tech-savy" friends use them.

FootNinja said:

Well it's the right one :D But often leads to buying expensive shit which hurts the wallet. And I'm not especially picky when it comes to sound, but more expensive stuff just sound so damn good sometimes and with the quality they're bound to last. I'd rather shell out lots of cash and use them for a long time then replace crap headphones over and over again.

I work in a mine and use the inkd skullcandy ear phones. Just let them play all night at mid volume and they sound just fine. Mine have held up really well to a lot of hard use.

Plus for me it blocks out a lot of jackhammer and loader sound but not so much that I do not know whats going on.

Either the Inked or Smoking Bud they offer are great for cheap ear buds. Buy two pair because they will break. Best cheap buds, good for work. Shop around and you can find them for 9.99, black is always sold out!

I got these as a gift and they fucking suck. They don't even say which is left and which is right. I mean, how the fuck can you screw that up? Anyway, they sound like headphones so yeah.

Listen OP, while I think you're fucking joking in this thread, I went out of my way to help you out. Here is a link which I already used the search function on. All you need to do is click and read. The opinion many of these people give is gold, so keep an open mind and research a little instead of saying OH KEWLZ SKULL PICTURZ IN MAH EARRZZZZ
