I got those zune 'premium' earbuds for like 35 bucks or something for running, and they work awesome for what they are. Instead of a cord is also has one of those lanyard type dealies, which is nice for exercising.. Anyway, those skullcandy earbuds look ugly :[

I have the Cardo S-2 's and I'm pretty happy with them.

The only problem is the ear rest can become uncomfortable after a bit, but I'm thinking of remedying it myself with some kind of foam. It might not be a problem if you have a wide head though, since the band bends to fit your head.
 
Look OP, if you don't care about sound quality and want to buy some headphones with pictures of skulls on them, skull candy are your best bet.

If you actually give a damn about sound quality, durability and value for money, keep looking.
 
I like the SkullCandy headphones in the Jamaican colours because I enjoy Rastafari culture, wish I had dreadlocks and enjoy smoking weed.

These headphones appeal to me and will let people know how individual I am and do not subscribe to their capitalist, consumerist world view.
 
I can understand the exterior line color of buds but who gives a fuck what the design is on the ear anal receptacle. Its not like someones going to see the design. Now the larger over the ear headphones, sure but they still look angst ridden as fuck. I personally prefer a clean design with some embellishments that really stand out, something classy. All that aside, SkullCandy is known for their shitty sound quality, so style over substance I guess. If your looking for a headpiece, I suggest a hat or tiara.
 
Wow so much hate for SkullCandy here... Ok they may not be very stylish but they are very cheap and they don't have a so bad sound.
I'm using them when I do snowboard and that's ok + I don't mind breaking or loosing them when falling on the ground like a big sh*t.

But if you're looking for performance don't go there that's for sure.
 
I always thought Skull Candy cans looked very tacky, but I'll say this to the OP: don't get hung up on audiophile reviews and recommendations. Unless you're an audiophile, many of the highly recommended phones may not appeal to your personal tastes because the headphones are often judged just on how well they reproduce the sound and can't possibly tell you whether that sound will actually appeal to your tastes. I've listened to cans recommended by audiophiles and while they indeed allowed me to hear parts of a song I'd never noticed before, they didn't necessarily make for as fun of a listening experience than some of the cans the reviewers frowned upon.

For example, I listen to a lot of electronic and hip hop music. I like a lot of bass response, and therefore find some of the lower end Sennheiser cans pretty wonderful. Yeah, I know the bass is a little muddy. Yeah, I know I can't hear some of the more subtle parts of my songs. But I still found something like a Senn HD-212 more pleasant to listen to than a higher end, less bassy can that had greater fidelity.

In other words, try out different cans. If the Skull Candys sound good to you, then fuck some of the elitists in this thread and buy them and enjoy them. Just don't compromise sound quality for style.

I have these and I think they are quite good. Only downside is that you can hear the wires touching you zipper or something similar.
 
I've bought cheap, random earphones that work nicely.

It's really the luck of the draw. With cheap headphones model number xxxxx05 might sound spectacular then you think oh these are the shit so you go back and buy one that looks exactly the same but it's xxxxy05 and it will sound like the worst garbage you've ever put in your ear.

After experiencing that once or twice i just say fuck it and get something.....anything. when i need it.

ironically the same thing happens with the op amp chips you make pre amps with. I'd really like to get into this business. it's so damn interesting.

I have those too (came with my laptop) and I really like them.

They're $40 or something on Sennheiser's site, but they cost much less on other sites. I think you can find them for like $20 on Amazon.

You could do worse. However, you should get Sennheiser CX300 or CX500 if you don't mind paying a bit more. Or Creative Labs EP-630 which are essentially the same thing as CX300 but selling for less.

Keep in mind though, Skullcandy has the kind of look to their products where you can just tell that a few years down the line, you'll look at some photo of you with them, and say "how on Earth could I..." much like something like leg-warmers or a bunch of other 80s fashion staple marks. Probably not much of an issue with earbuds though, as they are hardly visible anyways.
 
I'd recommend a pair of Sennheiser CX-300. I've owned them for like a year, used them *literally* everyday, trashed them unfairly, and they're working as well as the day I bought em. I love the sound (can't say I'm an audiophile, but I can notice the difference between a sennheiser and the average $8 Sony earbuds). Plus they block sound great, which is a huge plus for me since I travel by bus like everyday for at least 2 hours. For some people the fact that one cord is longer than the other (so you wrap a cord around your head) is annoying, but I actually prefer it that way. I got em for like $40 but I'm pretty sure you could do better than that now. Plus they look great, look at my avatar for reference.

Also, I know the Creative ones are supposed to be about the same thing but cheaper, although there's controversy on whether the sennheiser ones are better... I have never heard a definitive answer on that one, but I guess it doesn't matter much if you're not some audiophile. I mean you *are* planning to get Skullcandy :lol
 
I always buy those cheap $10 earbuds and they do the job for me. I'm not an audiophile by any means, and only use them maybe 3-4 hours a week max. It is annoying that you hear the wires pull though.

I am going to take the plunge, I will compare and come back with an opinion.
 
On GAF's recommendation, I got the Koss Porta-Pro folding headphones a few months back. Since then, people on the subway have stopped me to complain that my music in the headphones is too loud. I think they sound great, but they are pretty bulky to carry with my Zen player.

So now I need some IEMs that will drown out the subway racket and feel nice inside my ear. The trade off seems to be ear warmth, but I'm willing to spend about $50 to get something good. Which Skullcandy item should I buy (Just kidding!! Gimme a GOOD suggestion, please)?

The CX300's had a wrap around cable, according to the 2nd Amazon review. CX500's have a regular cord.

Depends on the model.

I never got why that's annoying; I was actually worried about so many people talking about how uncomfortable it was before I bought them, but as soon as I did I realized it was nothing. Why is it so annoying to some people?

Because when the wires are different lengths, one ear winds up responsible for holding the weight of the entire cable instead of distributing it evenly to both ears.

Y cables add a pulling force to the buds so it's easier for them to fall out. So if i'm at my uncomfortable ass desk and a book, my arm or something gives it a slight tug both buds fall the fuck out.

Such a thing doesn't happen as often with wrap arounds. Even if it does get cought and tugged, only one of em fall out.
