Skybox Labs Tease Unannounced Xbox One Exclusive

Don't be dillusional guys, it's not gonna be a big AAA title, it's going to be something smaller, just look at their portfolio, it's full of mobile games and remasters.

They also have three other unannounced games for PC, Steam and Gear VR, they're not going to be announcing a huge budget title with that many unannounced games and only "over 40" employees.

It will be a ID@XBOX game

Well a remaster of Halo Wars would be more than welcomed by me. 1080p, solid 30fps, Azure dedicated servers, perhaps 2-4 additional maps and I would be all over it.

They've done RTS tho? If they tackled Halo Wars they would get assistance from 343, and MS have shown more and more that they have multiplae studios working on their games helping out.

Who would have thought Double Helix would deliver Killer Instinct after their track record?

The website paints a very professional and talent increasing picture of the studio as well IMO.

Their last two games were IOS games, and they do not appear to have been the sole developers on any other games, just playing supporting roles.

I doubt they have the resources or manpower to develop a AAA game, or the experience either. Particularly when their site states they are developing 3 other games as well as the XOne game.

No way MS would outsource Halo to such a dev.

If Halo Wars gets a sequel I'd really like some way to use m&kb, whether that be a pc port or native functionality for Xboxone because I couldn't stand using a controller for that game.

Yea, seems like a small title. Perhaps a quick VR game to help show off their new VR.

Spartan Assault was outsourced to Vanguard games. Spartan Assault wouldn't be much less challenging than a Halo Wars sequel.

I could see a new Halo Wars releasing in 2016. Positive MS wants to continue on having at least one Halo game per year.

Got Halo 5 for this year (2015). Guessing Halo 6 will be released in 2017. Putting a new Halo Wars in between would be cool I guess.

I never played Halo Wars but I heard good things about it.

Halo wars would be sweet, they could use kinect to voice control units or have a touch screen interface on your phone/tablet.

40 people working on 4 different games? Yeah this is probably just an arcade title.

'Splosion Man 3 pls

343i said they need 3 years to make a mainline Halo game, would be 2018 then. Halo Wars 2 would be the sort of game you'd want to come out outside of the holidays too, so first half of 2017 or something would be good.

Fixed, Halos every 3 years. Halo 4 in 2012 was an anomoly because the 343/Bungie cross over.

I would definitely be interested in it if it used smartglass. Seems like it would be the best way to control a console RTS game.

Better yet, let us plug a mouse and keyboard into our console.

I dont get why no one ever takes advantage of that. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Come on now, really? The sequel to Halo wars (a AAA game) would be not be much less challenging than the development of a 4 hour arcade game?

I agree with you, Halo Wars will be far more difficult. But who says Skybox is even the lead developer here? They could be helping out Certain Affinity/343 and one of MS's incubation teams.

Compared to other genres developing a RTS game with deep gameplay elements probably requires the most resources based on a time/results ratio. Tons of balancing to do which results in thousands of hours of work.

One fan asked Phil on Twitter a few months ago “which now-marginalized genres do you think might see a resurgence this gen?” To which Spencer responded “RTS on console.” Maybe it's just me - but I think this is an interesting statement since we have not heard anything more about that so far.

Hasn't there been a halo game released every year since 2009 though?
2009 - Halo Wars and ODST
2010 - Reach
2011 - Halo Anniversary
2012 - Halo 4
2013 - Spartan Assault
2014 - Master Chief Collection
2015 - Halo 5

There will be a Halo game in some form in 2016, and it is pretty clear that Halo has become an annual series.

This is more likely, but the way the game is teased by Skybox would indicate it is their game to announce. If they were supporting 343 or one of the other teams who were developing the game proper I think they would rather announce it.

I hope it is Halo Wars 2, loved the 1st game, just wished it had more depth to it. With the bump in power, plus SmartGlass, a sequel could deliver an RTS close to what we get on PC.

Kampfheld returns!

Yep, Halo Wars 2 is coming from somewhere sooner or later.

Also, I'm going to say it: Spartan Assault for what it was (twin-stick snack sized Halo game) was great. I'd love them to do a Gears game in the same style :(
