Skyrim: New(er) Screenshots and Previews

Looks like Bethesda is finally adding children to Tamriel.
In Oblivion, the only kid you ever saw was a child's skeleton.

At least it's not like Oblivion.

Oblivion was terrible, Fallout 3 is fine, although I wonder how they are going to handle armor and stuff. Raiders in Fallout 3 went from 10mm Pistols and Hunting Rifles to Combat Shotguns and Missile Launchers, but the armor stayed the same.

As long as they avoid the blatantly obvious like the Bandit in Glass Armor asking for 100g it should work out.

I am going to hurt them with words.

They don't leave bruises that you can see. All this makes me wonder...are they ever going to make an evil child in these games? Perhaps a demon posing as a child? That might throw people for a loop.

I am pretty sure Dragon Age: Origins does this enough times for all other games ever.

Yeah, they could pull a (2009 game spoiler)
Dragon Age

I'm glad they're adding children. I felt like such an outsider in Little Lamplight from Fallout 3.

Still, I hope they're not as bratty as that little shit from Rivet City. I made him run away. I enjoyed it, immensely.

So Skyrim takes place 200 years after Oblivion? There's scope there to make some major changes to the technology in the game if Bethesda wanted to, like new weapons (crossbows for example - the Chinese were using them as early as 400BC). But I wonder if there will be any actual noticeable difference in the technology? Or does time essentially stand still in Tamriel for ever and ever and ever?

Actually, I guess time does stand still. It seems to be part of the fantasy genre that nothing really changes over time.

Well, there were a couple crossbows in Morrowind, which takes place in the third era (where Skyrim takes place in the fourth). Oblivion only takes place like six years after Morrowind's events end and I don't think there was any real lore explanation as to why you couldn't find any in Cyrodiil.

Anyone else looking forward to the premium map included in the pre-orders? I'm really curious as to what they look like. Hopefully Newegg will have it for $47.99 again before I decide to pre-order for $60!

crossbows were banned in cyrodiil because thugs, hooligans and bandits were known to carry them.

The lore of this series should be no thang to get the hang of for a first timer, right? All the games are pretty individual stories just set in the same universe at different points in time, correct?

YES! Forgot all about that. That was one of my favorite sections/stories in the game.

Yup

You won't have to play any of the previous ones to enjoy Skyrim, no. The stories are individual, set in a different time and a different part of the world. You start a fresh new character each time as well. You might find books or the occasional comment about history, but that's as far as referencing to the older games goes.

Yeah. Not only is there a ton of lore in-game for you to explore to pick up on it, Skyrim is set quite a lot farther out in the timeline compared to past TES games.

Awesome, awesome. I'm really looking forward to this. I've been interested in Elder Scrolls games, but the stiff animations and graphics always took me way too far out of the experience to do anything but dabble a bit with it at someone else's house.

They've got magic, they don't need technology.

At least, that's the way it often is in fantasy. That, and the fact that one of their most advanced civilizations (the Dwemer) got completely wiped out, partly because they 'insulted the Gods'.

Yep, embargo only lifts the day the game is released.
Do you know if NON magazine reviews already have the game?
I'm always wondering how "long" reviews get for these kinds of games, because I think that you would need more than 3 days to get an idea of how this entire game is to experience.

4 CD's? wow that's great, Oblivion's OST had 26 tracks, this should be much more expansive and epic. I just love how Bethesda have given their all with this game.

So, Evilore's latest thread reminded me... Did anyone make a thread for the GTTV footage? Because it certainly qualifies.

I'm on my cell phone right now, so whoever feels like making it, go ahead.

So, the eleven-minute GT footage reel was amazing. The art direction is glorious, and the new poses and general attitude of NPCs was so much better than Oblivion. I felt like I was seeing clips of cutscenes from a story-oriented game, especially with that king lazily slumped on his throne, or talking to the man with the cloaked rogue leaning on the table behind him.

I did turn off the audio almost immediately; listened to TES theme tracks instead.

One thing that saddened me was, as far as I noticed, a complete lack of Argonians. I also think I saw only one Orc. :<

Holy shit. Need that OST. Wonder why it's only showing up there. Maybe an accidental early listing or something?

Directsong.com is owned by Jeremy Soule and his brother. Earlier this week customers who had purchased albums through the site were notified of their account history preordering the Skyrim OST which is what the screengrab is.

I have bought so many games recently, but all ive been playing is Dark Souls. I have a feeling I will be buying another 10, and only playing Skyrim lol.

Is it weird that those words make me warm and fuzzy inside from memories of playing Fallout 3?

Again, I won't be using the guide even though I'm getting the CE version of it but DAMN!

Also Bethesda just needs to market out replicas man...

NOW I'm glad I'm getting the CE guide. I won't use it for first couple runs, but it would be used for later.

And goddammit, I want that helmet. Screw the dragon.

Has there been any footage of the PC version of the game out yet? And does anyone know if it supports 360 controller natively...not the fucking bullshit that Battlefield 3 when Dice/EA says 100% and it is a complete clusterfuck!!! <yes..am bitter at the BS from DICE/EA>

Well, pretty sure it will support it natively, though for a game like this, I'm going M+KB. As for PC footage, none that I know of. They are going all 360 footage so far.
