Signed up for the trial of IGN prime and pre-order at direct 2 drive for $45.86, then cancelled my IGN prime.

Just an FYI for people looking for the best deal, hope IGN sends out keys a couple of days before launch so I can preload.

Can you elaborate on this? I'm looking for a good pre-order deal and there's not much...

Edit2: Okay, got the whole deal. Do this:

1. http://login.ign.com/prime/landing 30-day free trial for IGN prime. Still gotta put in a payment source, but you can use paypal.
2. Go to direct2drive.com and click 'sign in'
3. There will be a message that "we detected you are already signed into IGN, so click here to sign in."
4. Buy stuff for 15% off
5. Cancel IGN prime (haven't done this part yet)

One possible issue is that I think I may now have two D2D accounts... the single sign-on account via IGN and my original D2D account... I'll update when I get it figured out.

Seriously I feel like one of the rabid fans defending the game from everything when I was the one always complaining about all the cut RPG stuff here not too long ago. There just seems to be a lot of misplaced expectations going on with this game.

Yeah, but at the end of the day it goes back to what we were saying yesterday. Anyone who is a fan of this series should know that getting out into that massive open world, with all of the freedom to be who you want and do what you want is what it is really all about here. Stiff animations and bad voice acting never bothered us before because that was never the point. Getting lost in the huge, immersive and incredibly atmospheric world is the meat of this game, and there is nothing else quite like it.

That said, the animations, voice acting, character models, visuals and combat have been improved some, but apparently that is just not good enough for many who have been spoiled by today's "standards." Whatever... just set me loose and let me go. I am ready for another Elder Scrolls, with all of the guilds, side quests, loot, lore and exploring that I will be enjoying for the next few years in yet another beautiful and massive world that I will not want to leave.

being on NeoGaf a lot of course I've heard so much about how good it is.. but to be honest the supposed difficulty has turned me off of it. I haven't tried it, and I'm nervous to because I feel like it would just kick my ass and if I came back here to complain I would yet again get my ass kicked, albeit verbally

It's not so much the difficulty, but the fact that when you die you will have to restart at the last fireplace you rested. I love the combat system of DS and the ambience, but the grinding just kills my interest. I finished Demon's Souls but I don't think I'll be going far into Dark Souls. Probably my last game in the series, assuming it keeps going. I just don't have the time or will to grind through the same enemies over and over again until I vanquish some mean motherfucker.

Anyway, I don't think we can really compare DS with Skyrim. Two completely different games whose only thing in common is beying classified as RPGs.

Yep thats all, but when you sign up for the IGN prime trial you can use your D2D login info as that works across all of IGN sites (Filefront,IGN,D2D,etc). That way you shouldn't end up with 2 different accounts. Make sure you cancel auto renew on the IGN Prime page at the button right hand corner.

This pretty much sums up the ES series to me, great job sir. I just love being turned loose to explore a new world (or a new part of it). I couldn't care less about how good the facial animation is, or if I don't get perfect physics when swinging a sword at something.

I was going to come into the thread to ask where the best preorder place was, but I think this might just be the best there is going to be...

Any idea if they will give you a steam key? My brother wants the game (but on steam) for his Birthday (I'm waiting to see if the game is still a broken mess like Oblivion and how the PC "port" is) and I wasn't expecting it to drop that much during the BF/Holiday sales on steam.

I love The Witcher 2 ( my RPG of the year so far) and Dark Souls but it's just almost annoying to read related posts to them (especially DS or Xenoblade ) in every RPG related thread or reading posts from everyone wanting the other game to be copy of The Witcher 2 or Dark Souls.

I just hope mods find a way to keep comparisons to Dark Souls/The Witcher out of the Skyrim OT, because after seeing this thread and the other one (intro one) that will be beyond ugly in the ot.

maybe an RPG garbage thread ( like the Forza/GT) is the solution ..I dunno.

I can't believe that people go "man I'm sick of hearing game x be mentioned in every thread"

Generally speaking that's a good indication that if you're not playing it then you should be.

Maybe they have and didn't like it.

Like me.

Well.. I think it has nothing to do with one played or not played the mentioned game, I for an example played Dark Souls and The Witcher 2 and love them but this practice is still annoying just like when Uncharted/Uncharted 2 gifs were in every thread in Gaf.

Maybe you've got bad taste.

I'm just playin around.

Now as someone who is supposed to be a critical unbiased reviewer this is ridiculous

His review of the game is now invalid, especially if its positive

And games journalists wonder why they are generally so loathed and people crap on them

I'm going to be building a strict assassin-mage in the vein of the Malazan series. Silent, unstoppable killing machine aided by magic for defense/misdirection/killing potency.
Don't know what Malazan is, but this is always, always my elder scrolls build.

I apologize if this has been posted, but this is an awesome fan made trailer for the game, some stuff in this that I had not seen before.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzlsYKGy0uw

It shows some crafting, it looks like there will be scripted sequences for the crafting from the way they show it. I hope you don't have to sit through them in order to find out that you failed the crafting attempt.

My favorite build is always:

Agility / Intelligence

Major
Marksman
Short Blade
Sneak
Light Armor
Illusion

Minor
Acrobatics
Security
Speechcraft
Alchemy
Alteration

Something to that effect

This is an amazing video, and I've only seen a few seconds worth of footage already from the entire thing.
I can't fucking wait for this game, the world looks amazing

I'm going to go with a pure mage again, like I always do. (Though Oblivion required quite a few mods to make that viable and fun) I don't subscribe to the whole "battlemage" thing. A really powerful mage has to be glass cannon.

Yeah. Pete Hines seemed especially irked about the intro leak on Twitter. A lot of attention on the internet being given to what is essentially a scripted tutorial. And they're already starting to close in on Hines :lol

I can't imagine what his Twitter is like on release day.

Ugh... I had to turn this off. As not to spoil myself. But I want to watch it sooooooo bad.

Hopefully you can't die while crafting, like in EQ2.

They patched it out some time ago now, though it was in for quite a while. Never did understand why they had it in the first place.. presumably for risk vs reward but who dies when making armour?

Me. I died while making armor. So the answer is me. *tears*

From their PS3 article, right? So I'm guessing we can assume that is from PS3?
I'm bot sure if that is a previously released shit or not, but at least we know someone was given hands on time with the PS3 version! It does exist, lol!

I'm really worried about PS3 performance... specifically pop. I can live with a slightly spotty FPS of tearing, as long as it's not too bad. But pop in makes me want to throw things.

My first ever experience of HD gaming and it blew me away. Just mindblowing at the time. It's hard to believe I found that to be a visual masterpiece.

Thats the pc version. Its a Darnified UI, I can tell by the pixels.

But at the time it looked great, both on the pc and console.. but moreso the console.

I think its all relative to the time the game was released but Bethesda games definitely do not age well. I guess Morrowind can still survive on its charm in regards to the art.

My gpu is threatening to die soon and I'm going to throw a tantrum if I have to send it back and wait ~2 more weeks to play Skyrim and Batman.

Fuck it if it's going to happen just die now while there's still time to waste :(

So apparently my crappy laptop is somewhere higher than minimum but lower than the recommended specs. Are the recommended specs for the high graphical settings or the low?

High. There's also Ultra settings, but those go above the "recommended settings".
