Skyrim Special Edition...crickets...crickets

I (and many others, I imagine) just don't see mods as a "feature." That's like saying fan fiction is a feature. Mods are extra content developed by the community, they have nothing to do with the actual game to me.

Can fan-fiction be literally inserted into a game and add to game content and gameplay? What an asinine comparison mang.

I never understood this sentiment. I was going to buy Skyrim Remaster and FO4 long before i heard anything about mods on console. Because these were games people really enjoyed regardless of mods on console.

Whether or not the PS4 version has mods generally speaking is irrelevant for a lot of people, when over 10 million Skyrim copies were sold without mods on console last gen.

I've never played with mods, so i don't see why i would care now?

No you weren't mate, they were announced on the same day (Skyrim)

Plus the fact it's a new way to play. You didn't play certain games in HD 60fps before either, but it's really nice you have that option. You can play with your controller not attached to your system via wire.

Plus 2/2 of the other versions (one the same price, one FREE) will allow mods. It's poor value. And you are a gullible customer for buying it blindly.

Love skyrim. Haven't played it In aBout 3 years. I'll prob get it during a Black Friday buy one get one sale

Looking forward to Xbox mods

The appeal is to play it on a playstation platform without all the fucking bugs that plagued the ps3. It's also the first time they'll be able to play the expansions. Lots of appeal there aside from the obvious visual improvements.

I don't think the bolded is true. They were just late as fuck.

FO4, Skyrim remastered and mods on console were all announced the same day.

Let me rephrase then:

I was going to buy a potential Skyrim remaster if they announced it whether or not it had mods like FO4 or not, and i was going to buy FO4 regardless of if they had announced mods for it or not. Sound better?

? I never played with my system via wire before. Generally speaking, i'm not sure what HD 60fps has to do with anything as i don't really care about 60fps outside of certain genres.

In regards to being a gullible customer, when PC only had mods for Skyrim, i didn't care. And now, when XB1 and PC have mods, i still don't care. I don't own either of those platforms, and i generally am not rushing out to buy them because of mods either.

I will buy Skyrim remaster cause i thought Skyrim was a great game, and i want to replay it on my current platform. I don't know if i'll buy it at full price because it is a remaster after all, but i'll still buy it at some point. My choice was never affected by mods.

I really enjoyed Skyrim on the 360, but the videos I've seen for this remaster really put me off it.

It just looks so dated. The game was never a looker last gen, but at least it was clean. With all the added effects (cranked up to 11) being piled on it just looks worse to me.

Things like volumetric fog and heavy color grading only work well if they are cohesive with the world and other systems - if the lighting system is cohesive. Otherwise it looks tacked on and out of place.

I'm looking forward to it (especially since I'll be getting it free on PC)...one of my favorite games of all time and I'd love an excuse to dive in again.

I modded the PC version to the back of beyond. I enjoyed my time with it, but I'm not really interested in going back.

I have the modded vanilla one on PC.

Special Edition won't work with all the mods.

So it's useless to me. My modded one already looks stupidly better anyway.

Special Edition does put whole "Mods on PC & XBO!" marketing angle into interesting place. How many modders will go back and do required work to get their mod(s) up and running in Special Edition? Then in PC space there is whole SKSE thing that according SKSE developers will take months if not longer to rebuild for Special Edition, if they even bother with that.

Gopher made good video regarding this; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpz5R_hHU88 He in general makes good videos about modding and available mods in few different games.

Sony's fault for wanting at least some technical oversight on installed mods so that they don't break the game or freeze up consoles, like a lot of people are having with the XB1 version of Fallout 4. Yeah, they're monsters.
This. Sony just want additional QA themselves on the mods but Bethesda doesn't want that. Checking from malicious code or anything bad from getting in the PS4.

Is Skyrim worth playing today if I've never played it?

I would personally say so. It was a good game then, and i would say its a good game now. It is actually still better than FO4 ended up being personally speaking.

As long as you don't go in expecting great graphics, i think you'll be fine. It wasn't a looker at the time it was release either. But the scale of the world and a lot of the art direction is on point.

I'll pick it up again when it's on sale. I played through it on PS3. Disappointed in No Mods, but for the right price I'll pick it up again. I won't be buying it for $59 that is for certain.

I have a sinking feeling that this will run like garbage when it comes out much like how Fallout 4 always has. I can't wait for the Digital Foundry comparisons showing the meager performances over the PS3 version.

Bethesda has given folks no reason to trust them.

No, but if one version could and another couldn't, I would buy the one that couldn't. That's the point.

So you would go out of your way to buy something without a feature that doesn't impact you in the slightest?

I don't get it.

Plus, it's not like there aren't mods that don't genuinely improve the game just on a bugs and polish level. They might as well be patches, but that's what they give.

I expect the console versions to run OK and the PC port to be garbage for a few months. Mostly unfounded feelings based on how these remasters have turned out so far.

I don't think the bolded is true. They were just late as fuck.

I didn't even know that they released the dlcs. I played and completed the vanilla games years before they released the dlcs. The ship has sailed by then because of how long it took.

I already went to pc by then to experience the expansions though I'm sure many haven't done so. It should be a good value for them.

Its a 2011 game rebuilt for 64bit...why would it have worse performance than the original game which runs on toasters at this point?

Id be curious too if theyre gonna have a Pro mode / HDR for this. It wouldnt make up for lack of mod support, but it would be a nice bonus for people like me who have the 4K /HDR set to take advantage of it and who has never finished the game on PS3.

Cautiously optimistic on this game, but leery at Bethesda's silence on videos and gameplay updates.

I have the Steam version, but stopped when I reached a point where it ran poorly on my old PC. So I'm interested in playing this remastered version on my new PC.

Not sure when I'll find time though...

No.

Bethesda asked sony if they could do something about how audio files are being handled so that mods could work.

Sony said nahhh we good.

Where did you read this? Audio format compatibility was listed as one of the challenges initially, but the stuff I've read from Bethesda regarding the mod cancellation has mentioned 'not allowing them they way they "should" work' - it doesn't seem that the audio format issue is the real problem.

So you're saying that someone who buys a version of a game that isn't the best or most feature complete version, and wants the game regardless of whatever improvements another platform has is automatically gullible? That would encompass every person who buys a multiplat on console, even moreso on Xbox 1, those who buy cross gen games on last gen, etc.

In that line of thinking, to not be "gullible", the only options are to buy/have another $300 console or build a PC to play said game, or just not play it to begin with for arbitrary reasons.

I'd be more excited for it but I played Skyrim until I was blue in the face and the lack of mods on PS4 in just fucking lame. I'll probably pick it up for my Xbone but I wish I didn't have to as I would have preferred to play it on my PS4.

Yep, and mods without SKSE are too shallow for my liking. Aside from artificial content of course.

It'll be nice for Xbox One players, but for those of us who are used to big mods, it's going to be a huge downgrade.

I'll buy it, Skyrim was my favorite game last gen. But not at 80$ (92$ with tax)...

Amazon Prime 20% off video games has cometh to save us!

Mods are incredibly awesome in Fallout 4, Sony should really try harder with the restrictions and help them implement it.

I for one am glad the PlayStation 4 version will not support mods. I value the original vision that directors have for their videogames. That original, untouched vision from Todd Howard is what I want to play... not some edgy fanfic mod made by a twelve year old.

People will call me crazy and say the PC version is superior for having the option, but I don't consider it a good thing.

I don't want to taint the beauty of Skyrim with pokemons, loli mods, naked women and other vulgar stuff. So yeah, I appreciate how the PS4 version stays true to the original thing. It's actually the biggest reason I'm getting it.

If that is all you think mods and modding add to Skyrim and FO4 experiences then you haven't looked at all. Mods go from community made patches that fix hundreds of bugs to extensive immersions mods that overhaul everything from combat mechanics to giving higher quality models and textures to gear while adding more theme fitting gear.

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/? and look even few clicks deeper than latest boob mod.

Well if you really need mods to make it better then maybe you shouldnt play the game in the first place.

Yet people are all over Bethesda stuff even when in fact they shine only after 1-2 years post-release because extensive mods overhaul them from graphics to gameplay aspects.

I personally dont feel they need to promite it that much. Less money on marketing more profit. Skyrim is skyrim. Anything they show would be old hat as compared to PC mods.

But then again, maybe its going to be late and they know it at this point.

Guys, this is a joke post.

It has to be...

You do realize you don't HAVE to use mods, right?

Again, paralysis of choice. Having the option then triggers something in the back of my mind that I might not be getting the best experience if I'm not using the right mods. Then I'm scouring the Internet looking for the best mod setups and testing different mods with each other repeatedly to get everything to work perfectly. I'd spend more time doing than then actually playing the game. I did exactly this with Oblivion on PC, which is why I went for the 360 version of Skyrim despite still owning a respectable gaming PC. These days I have more self control and am going to attempt to play the Skyrim remaster on PC with minimal mods installed.

Guys, this is a joke post.

It has to be...

I'm sure it's not. This is the same reason why some prefer iOS to Android. Having the ability to tinker and fuck with everything under the hood is not a "feature" to us, it's a distraction that we find difficult to ignore.
