Skyrim,

Better replayability and the dialogue isn't enormous, also, combat system is bad but better than Witcher 3
Damn.. Granted, I haven't played skyrim in a very long time, maybe I misremember.

But from what I recall, skyrims melee system was one of the worst I had ever seen. Basically button mashing with near zero variation, bad animations, and bad hit feedback!?

Personally, I really enjoyed witcher combat. Looked awesome, felt very fluent, reasonably customizable, and on higher difficulties fairly strategic as well. Genuinely can't think of any 50+ hour open world rpgs that had anything better

Witcher 3 has one of the worst melee combat systems I've ever played. I'll never understand how anyone can enjoy controlling a character that rarely does what I'm telling it to do. But you do you

BOTW and Witcher 3. Different but equal. Have sunk hundreds of hours of gametime into both.

Although I did find Geralt to be a bit of a simp in the main story in Witcher 3, I made up for it where I could… Love? That one's on you, where is my coin…

But would have voted for Xenoblade Chronicles X instead if that was on the list. That exploring, running, jumping from way way way up, sneaking past or get killed, those dark side stories. Getting my character the coolest gear. Adjusting the camera just right to make the game look cool as hell while I played. Delving into and learning those menues…Or trying to learn…

One interesting side note of the game. Or maybe I just imagined reading it, who knows. In the main story you are just a cog in the machine. You are not the hero. But the side stories were made by other people and they were free to do their own thing storywise. And oh man did they do their thing to make you feel like the main man. I felt like Nietzsche's Superman. Stranded on a different planet? Need help? I'm on the case. Overhearing what was said about me as I continue to explore and do side missions. Oh yeah baby, here I come.

RDR2 for me.

I loved the SP and the Online.

TW3 in second place, then in third GTAV.

I don't care for the others.

RDR2 (best interactive entertainment in the last decade), followed by the Witcher 3. I still need to play TW3's DLC.

I like CP2077, GTA5, and Skyrim. There is something about the Fallouts I enjoy more than Skyrim though.

I bounced off BOTW quickly. I get and appreciate the respect the game has but it's a miss to me.

All good to great games, but RDR2 shits on them all. An amazing experience from the beginning to end that nails what it sets out to do. So, so good.
From a beautiful world, yes. From well written side quests that you can impart some personality on the protagonist, absolutely not.

It's probably a tie for me between Skyrim and BotW. I'm not huge on open world games but those 2 have a real "I'll just wander off and do whatever the fuck" feel to them. Witcher 3 is a great RPG but the open world feels more checklist-like than liberating. When I played the Witcher games I really wanted to just take Witcher contracts and play it like a western Monster Hunter, but that's only a fraction of the game. Don't get me wrong the rest of the game is good too, I just really liked figuring out the prep work for monster hunts and executing them.

I ultimately voted for Skyrim since you can add whatever you want to extend the entertainment value to it due to the gigantic modding community it has. At it's core it's a pretty average game, but the exploration, freedom, and modding make it hard to put down whenever I decide to replay it. BotW is great to just fuck around in and mess with the robust physics systems, and has a lot of creative freedom of its own.

Witcher 3 >>>> BotW > RDR2 >>> Skyrim (heavily modded) > Gta, Cp2077.

Witcher 3 is a more complete game than all of those.

W3 or rdr2.

Cyberpunk on pc honorable mension, i don't really care for the others.

(Tbh I liked horizon more than all of these because it has the best triforce of graphic/story/combat)

damnit teezy why you make me gotta pick between those two lol...... *sigh* breath of the wild

A month ago I would have said The Witcher 3 but I recently started playing Skyrim for the first time in a long time, along with about 40 mods I got from this list, and all the DLC, and it's really incredible. Even without the mods, it really struck me how ambitious a game Skyrim is and how much it has going on. Bethesda really put a lot into that game, holy shit.

Didn't vote in the end though, because I couldn't choose between those games. I also really enjoyed Cyberpunk on PC. The two Rockstar games I enjoyed, but I don't think they're as good as the older GTA games and the first Red Dead.

Each has their own merits. I'm glad that I can play all of them , not having to make a choice.

i feel very much the same way here, although my limited experience with BotW left a lot to be desired. I'd love to revisit eventually though

When I thought of the list I was just thinking top tier games, didn't even make the connection they were all open world until I made the thread. I guess my tastes are showing here.

In order:

1. Witcher 3 -- Fantastic writing down to the smallest sidequests really elevated this one into my top tier of open world games
2. Cyberpunk 2077 -- Despite not delivering on all the pre-release promises, the incredible world and excellent writing made me want to spend a lot of time with this game.
3. GTA5 -- Pure fun and mayhem, fantastic set-pieces, and a great world. It's peak GTA.
4. Skyrim -- Mindblowing at the time, but aged somewhat
5. BotW -- Does so much right, but also a lot wrong. Liked it but didn't love it.
6. RDR -- A masterpiece of verisimilitude, but realism doesn't always mean fun.

1) Witcher 3
2) Red Dead Redemption 2
3) Kingdom Come Deliverance
4) Cyberpunk 2077

GTA5 and Skyrim are fun, but not on my GOAT list. Don't care about BotW.

Almost feels like CP2077 is underrated now. I played the shit out of it at launch and loved it. It's not witcher 3 or RDR2 level but it's a really interesting game.

Skyrim with mods. Nothing has touched its atmosphere yet. Botw sucks in switch, but playing it on PC has made me love the game.

If I had to choose, though, it would be Skyrim with Mods. I played it so long with mods; I don't know what the game is like without them. Out of the list, W3 and RDR2 have the best story and characters. BOTW has the best gameplay.

Those games are different type of open world games, each one does 1 thing in a masterclass way which is why they are legendary, except for Cyberpunk maybe i dont think it does anything special.
For example:
Skyrim has the best freedom, you can interact in the world in so many things, also it has the best mod support ever.
Witcher 3 has the best Quests quality and the arguably characters too.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has the best looking open world, and probably the best details put in a game from technical perspective.
Breath of the Wild has the best physics and exploration (tied with Skyrim) with the most innovative designs.
GTA5 has the best sandbox and modern city sim.

So it all depends on what you value in an open world game.
If you want Writing quality (Story and Characters) its Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2, the separate factor here is RPG elements, whether you prefer them or not, quests choices, gameplay builds, sword combat, fantasy setting then its Witcher, if its guns, real life sims, chores, cowboys wild west its RDR2. Though i personally think Witcher writing is better because of the DLCs.
If you want exploration and physics and to interact wildly with the game system given to you, its Skyrim and Breath of the Wild, again the separate factor here is the same, RPG fantasy .etc..etc or Puzzle, action adventure. I loved both.
If you want big modern city sandbox then its GTA, simple, Cyberpunk belong to the first category (writing) but imo it does nothing special to elevate it to be there, those games done what it tried to do better and earlier so its position here is taken. Even though i think it does have good quests and story. Just not enough.

Dude they're all great. all are must play, except for cyberpunk. It's more of a wait until it's truly fixed

Shame cyberpunk launched in the state it did but there's a good game beneath the mountain of bugs

my choice is Zelda but that's just me

Yeah the zeitgeist is gonna remember Cyberpunk for all the things it isn't, and for the shitty last gen ports despite very much being a 9 out of 10 game with an amazing world and top tier writing.

Don't worry, once next gen version releases a lot of haters (majority of which have not played the game for even one second) will realize how wrong they were (even if they say otherwise at the moment)

Man since BotW is on there you should include a majority of the Ubisoft titles since it's essentially one of those with Zelda slapped on the box. Oh but the swords break so people expectations are subverted give it a 10.
